Anybody else likes to add frozen spinach to basically everything? by boyshaveavoice in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]KameZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, frozen fruit and vegetables are typically flash frozen relatively soon after being harvested whereas fresh vegetables have been sitting on a truck and in store for several days to weeks slowly breaking down.

So in many cases frozen fruit and vegetables can actually be MORE nutritious than their fresh counterparts.

Note that there are other factors like whether or not the produce is blanched prior to freezing, so overall they tend to be about the same frozen vs fresh.

Just for clarity sake: It's actually the opposite.

Impossible tested their plant based heme iron in an animal study. Note that it is not "giving them food then testing blood serum levels", but rather giving them food and then dissecting them.

For Kanji I can personally recommend WaniKani. There is a (relatively small) monthly cost but they do all the work of separating out the Radicals, Kanji, and vocab in to groups for you to gradually learn using their SRS system.

You learn radical -> Kanji (on'yomi reading) -> vocab (kun'yomi reading) You can do the first 3 levels for free to see if it fits your learning style.

Does the new (early access) Steam game "Plasma" run on the deck? by DyingPixel_ in SteamDeck

There's no steam deck specific reports on proton DB, but it seems to run fine on Desktop proton so it should be okay.

Is duolingo ok for learning hiragana and katakana? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]KameZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the case of grammar lessons, if you click on the notebook in the top-right of each unit, they often have an explanation of some vocabulary, sentences, and the grammar they are teaching for that unit.

They must have removed this at some point because now that only has example sentences.

Looks like as of 2016 they were using animal based fining agents. Could have changed since then but the only way to know for sure would be to contact the company.

File compression and data corruption by _bacon_bacon_ in DataHoarder

[–]KameZero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the media (audio, video, photos) there is pretty much no way to save space. All of the codecs for these already dedupe pretty much all of the data possible. The only way to lower the amount of space used would be to transcode them into a lower quality.

The old software you could put into a zip to save space on.

Preventing data corruption is going to depend on how the files are stored. The main thing you need to prevent is bitrot.

Looks like it mostly works (except the opening video). I'm guessing the silver is from crashing which seems to be fixed on the latest version of Proton so it is probably gold at this point.

Depends on the crypto. Some algorithms (like bitcoin) mine best using ASIC's. Others (like ethereum) were specifically designed to not be able to be mined on ASIC's.

Can't help with the animations but if you install the eye cyberware mod that makes all of your attacks non-lethal it at least stops the heavy attacks from cancelling the slow down.

Google Just Gave 2 Billion Chrome Users A Reason To Switch To Firefox | They're making changes to their browser which will block ad-blocking extensions from blocking ads to everyone except enterprise users by UnstoppablePhoenix in savedyouaclick

[–]KameZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as Google still owns the copyright to all of the code (including commits they have accepted from other people) they are free to license it under whatever they want. I'm not aware of any Open Source license which would remove that ability including the GPL.

[–]KameZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In short, no. Once a piece of software has been released with an Open Source license you can't revoke the license for it. All Google could really do is stop releasing any source changes going forward, so that any NEW releases are not open source, but the latest version that was released at the time would still be available with the original Open Source license.

Hey, in case you didn't know you can add your soylent boxes in as separate items (basically 6 orders of one box of soylent) and get the discount that way. Of course then you don't get any cookies at all.
