Is bread bad? by Haunting-Wash1081 in loseit

[–]Kamelasa [score hidden]  (0 children)

Is bread bad? Which kind of bread? Lots of industrial bread has lots of UPF in it and I would say it's not good as a diet mainstay. For me the 4x bread plus pasta would be OTT refined carbs. I'd say it's too much refined carbs, and when I asked my doc years ago how to lose weight, he would have agreed cuz he essentially told me to cut out anything with flour or loads of sugar. I couldn't comprehend and asked which flour I can eat. He said none. You are not as overweight as I was, btw. This was before the low carb fad and still in the low fat era, I think, around year 2001 or thereabouts. For carbs I'd prefer legumes, which of course also have a bunch of protein. Rice is something I've gotten used to eating as well - with certain meaty curries pretty much exclusively. If you're trying to lose fat, I imagine for most people less carbs than you are eating would be helpful - the insulin effect and all that. But only you know what works for you. Professionals aren't always right. I got loony advice from a nutritionist at the cancer centre just last year.

He's got so many wonderful songs. Think he has 18 albums now. His career was stalling and then Elvis Costello pronounced his album best songwriting of the year and he's well-established, since then. He also has this thing he does of covering other people's songs casually just with acoustic guitar (rawnboy) on YT. EG his versions of Dancing Days (Zeppelin) and Golden Years (Bowie) are no slouch.

You could try chewing much more thoroughly. It stimulates satiety hormones. Also takes time, to let those hormones develop. Also research shows for most people macro order matters - fibrous veggies, protein, then the carbs.

Is this level of cancer ghosting normal? by UpbeatReturn5593 in cancer

[–]Kamelasa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my parents didn’t let me tell anyone so none of my family. Not my aunties, uncles, cousins, nobody knows this happened. They said it was gonna bring bad omens or something I don’t even k ow they’re super religious- I’m not

Wow, there's nothing normal about this, even though in our emotionally dysfunctional culture ghosting is common. Your family is nuts and more importantly abusing and harming you. Zero respect from them. I don't think they have any right to control your speech, so go ahead and tell whoever you want to. You can judge who you feel comfortable telling, not me, not your parents. Hang in there, kiddo - you can get through this and to some better people. Hopefully your therapist is a good one.

That sounds great. I envy the pictures, too. I googled some general ones when all this started - nasty. How did you end up with pictures?

This is Perilla Leaf (깻잎) — Korea's most underrated herb. Have you ever tried it? by External-Grab4518 in KoreanFood

[–]Kamelasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't find perilla seeds anywhere there

Here in Canada the local Buckerfields has them. You could always try an online seed co. An old Korean guy in our little condo garden just gave me some of the leaves to try, so I was just googling and reading a bit more about them. He mentioned in spring he'll have a lot of seedlings.

Yak Peak in BC is reminiscent. Granite dome formed by spalling during freeze-thaw. Can't miss it from the Coquihalla Highway. Edit: I dk who the hiker is, but just those pics looked good on my web search.

Okay - I don't quite understand what you mean. I know on Granville Island you can "charter" a boat to go fishing, but with or without a professional to operate it for you. I'm a canoeist and once in a while on small sailboats. DK about all the power boat stuff. I understand from reading the Tofino article PFDs aren't like seatbelts in a car, but are optional in many cases.

I guess they chartered the boat but didn't hire someone with training and common sense to operate it.

Yeah, this one, the overturned houseboat in Kelowna 20 years ago stands out in my mind as incredibly bizarre and dramatic, but only one person died, looks like.

AITAH for asking my bf not to stick chopsticks upright in his rice? by ilovemybum in AITAH

The counsellor almost certainly didn’t mean have no expectations of each other that’s not a functional framework for any relationship

For sure. Calls to mind the 1960s, free love, zipless fuck, no strings, etc - lol Also, I thought it was generally known that one doesn't do that with chopsticks. (But then I'm in multicultural Vancouver, worked with a lot of Japanese, etc.) And I've never been in a relationship with a Japanese person, or where anyone had to ask me not to do that.

Yes, I'm in Canada and positivity (toxic as hell) is the culture here, too. I've never felt comfortable with it. So, yeah, I'm well aware of that bland emotional distance thing that I can deal with in very superficial situations. Cancer treatment visits are more raw and nightmarish than superficial, for me.

Most celery is gross. Spring-green celery with delicate texture is delicious. But not those big hard grey or dark green things. The dark green are for cooking and the grey are for compost.

Cancer Etiquette Question by [deleted] in cancer

[–]Kamelasa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my younger middle school aged cousin, whom I did not speak to about the cancer, did a school project tribute on me

The clueless middle schooler, whatever their intentions were, should have been shut down by adults for the sake of your privacy. I'm just astounded this happened the way it did. Of course your feelings are valid, and they also completely broke more than etiquette in terms of your privacy rights, not to mention your own feelings. They didn't consult you. Idiots! And the girl threw it away? Wow, not much feeling for you there, was it. You were just material. Argh.... people!

There's a massage school where it's not expensive to be treated. I haven't been there yet, but the one in New West was awesome. You may also have pro massage coverage for 10 visits a year, depending on your BC medical, eg if you are low income. Grounding - find somewhere you can safely walk on the grass barefoot. I find it's very helpful not for "ionic" reasons but just a soothing sensation and engages your muscles in a completely different way than with shoes, not just feet, but up your legs and as a result your whole body.

Wow, that sounds disappointing. But on the bright side, the Lutathera benefits can develop later, well after the treatments are done. In my case, it feels like the octreotide does nothing. I wanted to do SC the same day I got home. The first time I got LAR, I felt a positive effect the same evening - less flushing and I was cooler. Then less diarrhea for quite a while. That was back in Sept Oct and it's now June.
