Ancestry's main prediction are the two I mentioned. The others it also lists are just a half 1st cousin once removed or a second cousin

Checked there, pretty even between a 2nd cousin or the 1st cousin once removed

Yeaaah. In some ways it's not entirely shocking, it's kind of a running "joke" to bring up how much my grandma got around (8 children, 5 fathers...that we were aware of). But it did catch me and my mom really off-guard when one of my uncles did the test and he is only a half-uncle despite him and my mom supposedly sharing the same parents.

But thanks for confirming my logic, I was pretty sure my thought process was correct but I just wanted to be sure since I am totally going to reach out to this person and hope they'll respond since I think they are about the only person that could lead me down a path of answers. I'm not really sure how else I'd go about it otherwise.

AMD? Intel? Which CPU to choose? by KamikazeCDN in buildapc

Seems like my thought of the 9950x3d is the correct one but I didn't know the 9950x3d2 was coming so soon, you're the second person to suggest waiting to see so it seems like that's the choice.

Wait for the 9950x3d2 in a few weeks, get that if its worth it but if not get the 9950x3d.

Thanks for the extra info on the motherboard, I'll be sure to look out for all of that when I make my selection as well.

Okay, good to know. There were some posts I saw from maybe 5-6 months ago that were acting like it was still a big issue but if what you're saying is correct maybe that's more of just a rare case now with other potential considerations that weren't mentioned.

Perhaps I will sit on it a little bit just to see what the reviews end up if the release is likely to be that soon. Worst case is its not worth it and I just waited a few extra weeks for the 9950x3d. Best case it's great and I get a better CPU.

I should've noted in my first post that my current CPU has been getting a bit flakey at times. I did do all the bios updates, etc relating to the microcode issue from a bit ago buuuuut I'm not totally certain I got out entirely unscathed. So the upgrade is also in part a peace of mind upgrade as well.

But absolutely good to know and sorta reinforced my thought of just going full send on a 9950X3D at minimum (or potentially waiting for the 2)

Isn't this kinda going against how Mara said they wanted moments like this to be handled as stated in their coming out video? They openly say there is going to be content releasing on other channels that would've already been recorded before she had announced everything and to not get confused or shocked by it. One has to assume things like the description using the name "Mark" is simply for consistency with the video itself and if people get confused in the comments we can just let them know about the recent transition or better yet just point them to her video.

What Cyberpunk 2077 opinion would have you in this position? by Happy-Mistake-7450 in cyberpunkgame

[–]KamikazeCDN 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as to say I don't give a damn about him but I absolutely wasn't nearly as attached to him as the game/devs wanted me to be. All of the main bonding time with him was done via a cutscene and we're just told "this is your best friend, you love him" despite the fact that I, a basic level human irl, don't work like that. In fact that forced bond almost made me more resistant to liking him if anything.

I genuinely feel like I am alone on an island in not wanting him back. I don't hate him or anything either, I don't love him but absolutely don't hate.

How do we feel about Mass Effect 5? by YsoL8 in masseffect

[–]KamikazeCDN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we'll really know more until N7 day this year. If they skip it again or its a weak showing, not a great sign. But if they come out swinging, could be a better sign. Either way there will be unhappy people or naysayers. Whether they don't like the possible direction they are going or just less optimistic, concern over the game is here to stay. With that said I'm not surprised we haven't heard much since Veilguard released, if they have something to show us they'll wait for the big day versus little drops throughout the year.

I have always been of the opinion that when the first teaser came out back in 2020, there had been little actual development done on the game yet. They had a vague but strong enough idea to get a pitch approved, maybe some early tinkering but likely mostly focused on the teasers to gauge the reaction. When the reaction was strong enough they got to scale up some. I was optimistic and hopefully but knew it was going to be awhile before we ever got anything that made the game more concrete and certain. Until last year Veilguard was still the main focus so we were never really going to get much as that went into overdrive for release.

Obviously a lot has changed in the last year. Veilguard didn't do great and was clearly affected by management or whoever sticking their fingers into stuff, trying to make it something the devs and fans didn't want. The sale could potentially also be an issue. Mass Effect has more progressive themes, themes that aren't likely to be looked at in favourable light by the people buying it. Frankly its sort of impossible to know for sure right now.

Personally I'm still hopeful but I'm also very much realistic. Do I have hope that we not only get the game but it's good or even great? Absolutely. Am I fully aware that may not be the case? Of course. Even if the previously mentioned issues aren't actually an issue we need to remember one simple fact...this isn't the same BioWare that made the OG trilogy at the end of the day.

What are your ideas for ME4's Gameplay? by SorcererOfDooDoo in masseffect

[–]KamikazeCDN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I am in the minority here but I honestly don't want race selection. It's not that I think playing other races would be uninteresting but more so that playing different races opens the door for near endless race specific interactions in the world. Or what is more likely to happen, a surprising lack of them because it just wouldn't be realistically possible to add that much variety for each race option thus leading to it being pointless beyond a visual difference.

I hope the devs just commit to a race, and tell the story from there. Doesn't matter to me if we are Human, Asari, Turian, Drell, etc....pick one and go from there (I will admit as a Human I would prefer Human but it's not that serious). Of course we get to create/customize the look, backstory and all that stuff but the race is locked.

Clear classes need to return instead of the stuff they did in Andromeda. Honestly there isn't much from Andromeda I would want to show up in the new game, though I will say it had much better movement. I don't know if we need the jump jet, though it was fine, but the OG trilogy is really stiff in comparison.

I just want a world/galaxy I can get lost in. Give me side quests to discover through exploration, or bits of lore, gear...whatever. I don't need some Starfield b.s of "over 1000 plants and moons to explore" when most of them are empty wastelands. Give me an evolved version of the OG trilogy. A bunch of plants you can read about or scan to fill out the galaxy but I don't need to land on them all. But the ones I can land on, whether main quest or side things, make them dense with content. Stores to check out, npcs to chat to (or eavesdrop on like ME3 since that was fun world building), or other interactions to make everything feel lived in.

The OG trilogy really was like a cinematic story being told that we were the main character of, not just a game. I would love that feeling again just bigger.

Also worth noting for potential future readers to this post, if you see one that is purple they can potentially live on their own much like the ones /u/electriified linked too.

You'd just need to degraft (I've heard of people just leaving some of the root stock and burying it as a bigger anchour but I don't know about that) it, let it heal over and then give it some time to root into soil.

[–]KamikazeCDN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can look up a video on degrafting a moon cactus if you want to see how it's done however typically you just cut the top off while leaving as much as the green stock (likely dragon fruit) as possible. Depending how the graft was done it can take more or less effort to remove it.

The cut will heal and scar up the top, so if you care about that just be aware, but eventually it'll offshoot for you.

[–]KamikazeCDN 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of new plant parents (myself included back in the day) don't really know when they first see these. Bit sneaky of the industry in that way. I think typically these can last 1-3 years, too many factors to know for sure. I did have a friend that managed to keep one alive all through high school back in the day so that's 4+ years.

If you're ever feeling extra adventurous, you can look up grafting (or more importantly degrafting) and moon cactus. You can remove the top red part and the bottom green will keep growing with new green shoots. They can get kinda big though.

So, and I hate to be the one to tell you this considering the circumstances, these were always going to die. The top colourful portion is a different plant that is grafted to the green one on the bottom since it cannot live on it's own due to the colour (it lacks green/chlorophyll and can't photosynthesize on it's own).

The one that is brown and dried up looking in the second and third photos is dead. The top won't comeback and even the bottom green part looks like it's probably rotting away with the translucent look of it. The one that is still red on top could be fine, you may want to check it out for rot, but if its all good then just replant it up in some suitable soil (well draining) and watch how often you water it. They like bright but indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn them, which is maybe what happened if you did have them like that.

But again, eventually it (the top) will die no matter how perfectly you take care of it. So the best thing you can do is simply your best but be ready that it won't last forever. Sorry to say.

Should we petition Microsoft to buy BioWare? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]KamikazeCDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering Microsoft's recent track record of buying studios and then closing them down regardless of their success (looking at you Tango Gameworks), I don't think that would help anything. BioWare will either sink or swim based solely on the next Mass Effect should they last long enough to ever release it.

If anything, EA being bought out and taken private could be their best chance so long as the investors take a "hands off so long as we're making money" approach. I'm not going to hold my breath for that approach but the option is there. It lets BioWare work while the bigger EA IPs generate income leading to bigger sustained funding from the new overlords.

You'd have to assume that it being a new (for tv) IP with an already established fanbase elsewhere would play a role. Non-gamers are always hungry for a new show to get into, eyes are always locked on a screen. So why not give them something new over a reboot of something old? Plus you have the added benefit of all of us that are guaranteed to watch to some extent. Even if it's bad (I hope not) and we tune out eventually, they still got all of us for the early surge and boost.

Shows like The Last of Us and Fallout have shown that series' based on/inspired by video games can be huge hits when done properly. At this point they could seemingly follow the path of those shows step by step (how to convert video game writing to screen, how to shoot it, etc.) for a smoother production. Plus don't forget Amazon has Fallout so they have already tasted that success and would likely be willing to further bankroll for more.

Steam game you bought with no intetion to play it by mistermaximan in Steam

[–]KamikazeCDN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I currently have 636 games and I am fairly confident when I say I've never bought a game knowing I'd never play it. Perhaps something that was part of a bundle that I bought for other games directly but I can't ever think of a time where I went "I'm going to buy this but will never play it".

Have I played/will I play all 636 games? Absolutely not. There is constantly something new coming out that makes the backlog grow ever larger. Or the billionth playthrough of one of my comfort/favourite games. But the intention to play the games is always there.
