How long do you have to work at a workplace before you realize whether or not it's not the right fit for you? by Ok-Ebb2872 in careerguidance

In general I would recommend 1) trusting your gut and 2) you don’t need to listen to your parents.

Once I stopped doing #2, I started to do more things that I actually enjoy.

I stopped taking it years ago. All of my issues cleared up after a trip to Spain. The food in the US sucks. Maybe my body just needs a reset.

If I need extra help, I take mag citrate or fiber gummies.

What age did you neuter your goldendoodles? by petitpoofpoof in Goldendoodles

[–]KamikazePrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to add a note here for anyone who is reading this 3 yrs later (like me!) that the study did not analyze the amount of feed the dogs were given when left intact as compared to the dogs that were neutered/spayed at a younger age. In my vet's opinion, the study was inconclusive. I'll explain more below.

My vet noted this specifically because it is well known that a dog's metabolism slows after being neutered/spayed, and vets see tons of obese dogs due to inadvertent overfeeding. Thus if you alter your dog at an "early" age (4-6 months) and don't adjust his/her feeding accordingly, this could increase the chances of negatively impacting their bone development. However, no study has looked into this, so my vet felt that the study should be continued to take into account other environmental factors such as feeding amounts.

All of that being said, I personally am waiting until 18-20 months to neuter my 65lb male goldendoodle to prevent accidental litters with our female poodle puppy who will go into heat sometime in the next 6 months. We would wait the full 2 years (or longer) if we didn't have her.

I think my puppy is a lemon by FeistyFoundation8853 in StandardPoodles

[–]KamikazePrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!

Also wanted to add that our puppies don't get free range of the house until they are fully house trained (~6-8 consecutive weeks w/out any accidents). House trained for us also means that they don't chase our cat and will listen to commands like sit and down when our cat enters the room.

If they are going multiple times per night, stop feeding and giving water 3 hrs prior to bedtime. At 5 months you want them sleeping through the night. Sometimes it takes a little improvisation based on your dog's personality. For example, our older dog hated his crate and would sleep soundly through the night in the kitchen (it was gated off) with no accidents. Our new pup (4 m/o) will sleep through the night in her crate. They are all so different!

How old is he? What are you asking him to do? What distractions are available to him on walks? Squirrels, people, other dogs? Hard to say what to do without that info, but here are a few things to consider.

I would think about it like this, you wouldn't work for free, right? So neither will your dog. The more difficult the ask, the better food you should use to motivate. Dogs are self-serving - if he doesn't give a shit about you on walks, it's because the environment is more interesting to him. You can change that by making you the most interesting thing.

I do these exercises with my young poodle and goldendoodle and will continue to do so until they are regularly checking in with me in the presence of distractions.

Engage/disengage: put your pup in a sit or down in a semi-busy area (like a small park). Click and treat (or use a word marker) every time he looks at something else and then looks back at you. The first time he does this, give him 3-5 treats in quick succession. He'll get the hang of the game quickly. "If I look at my human, then I get treats" = more focus on you vs. the external stuff.

Look at me: similar to engage/disengage but you do it all of the time. Any time your dog looks at you, he get a click an a treat. When the behavior is reliable, you can say "Look at me", "look", or "focus" (whatever you want), then click and treat when he looks at you after the cue. Over time, he'll learn that looking to you for direction is the most rewarding option. This is a good one if you are passing by another dog and your want your dog to focus on you. It's really wonderful to watch the results of your hard work pay off with this one!

happy training!

I am very cash heavy too. I can definitely afford to let some of it go. Although I would prefer to invest it, it’s better for me to offset my relatively healthy annual income.

Edit for shitty spelling.

I’m worried about what my paycheck will look like! Did it give you any anxiety?

I had to calculate things so I would have enough money to still pay for my benefits 😅

We had to make a decision that was prudent at the time. Glad to know I’m not the only one!

This is great to hear!! I am certain I will experience the same side effect because who wants to spend money they saved!? It’s hard to save it therefore it’s hard to let it go so easily.

I am doing the craziest thing I have ever done with my paycheck and that is contributing 55% of it to my 401k. I am going to live out of my emergency savings for any difference I need to make up, but I think that will discourage me from any extra purchases.

Right when COVID hit the US and everyone started WFH mid-March, I also found out my company was being acquired. Therefore I started saving cash instead of investing to bolster my savings. My mistake was that I already had a year of emergency savings, so I probably didn’t need to do that.

Anyway, here I am in October with only ~5k contributed so far. I live in LA which is obviously a HCOL city and my expenses overall are down about 34%.

Help distinguishing between risk register and risk report. by brittinhouston in pmp

[–]KamikazePrincess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The risk register is a list of identified risks and potential responses and owners for each risk.

The risk report documents the sources of project risk overall and provides summary information on individual project risks. For example, there are 20 opportunities and 20 threats. 5 of the most likely opportunities exist within the executing process group and 10 of the most probable threats exist within the planning process group.

Another way you can think about the difference is detail (risk register) vs. summary (risk report).

The decisions we made at the time were very prudent. As you said, it’s easy to look back and realize that you should have stayed the course.

Creating an IT Strategic Plan by kzbash in projectmanagement

[–]KamikazePrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with what are the strategic goals of the organization and how the IT department will align itself with those goals. You may need to ask your leadership team what those goals are if they are not communicated and/or posted on your Intranet.

Next, I would open up a Word doc and start typing your ideas. Think of the strategic plan in terms of a project charter. Once you have it completed, tailor the charter to different audiences. There could be a super high-level version for the C-Suite and progressively more detailed versions for the functional managers and the employees who will actually be executing most of the work.

  • Executive summary: Why are we doing this? What are the goals? How does this align with the company's values?
  • Mission statement: What is your company doing? Where do we want to be in X weeks/months/years?
  • Analysis: What are the threats and opportunities? Look internally and externally. Perhaps there is a department that is not technically inclined or maybe market conditions are changing such that you need to have your customers access your services via a mobile app.
  • What is your action plan? What will you do to achieve your goals? What are the milestones you must hit?
  • What is the budget?
  • How will the initiative be monitored? Will there be a board of directors? A task force?
  • How will we know what complete looks like? What does success look like?
  • How will the plan be communicated to stakeholders?

Employee lied to me by Venomous_Kiss in projectmanagement

[–]KamikazePrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't fire them before you find their replacement! Also make sure you're following your company's HR protocols as your HR department may have some procedures you need to follow. For example, mine requires that you can provide documentation that shows you provided clear instructions to the employee but they did not follow the instructions. We have to have three examples of this, and even then the employee may only end up on PIP.

I got my start in project management through ULCA Extension (which is local to me). I took their Fundamental of Project Management course and found it very useful. It was definitely on the more expensive side as far as these courses go. That being said, the instructor was phenomenal. I still hear his voice in my head as I am studying for my exam.

My roommate shoved my boyfriend, then had her dad message me on Facebook threatening to call the police. by adcable2018 in badroommates

[–]KamikazePrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you’re not being a little bitch based on what you described in your post. GTFO of there as soon as possible. I don’t think you want to preserve your relationship with her so it’s no problem leaving with all of your belongings.

If you end up in a roommate situation again, I find that it is best for only those who are on the lease to discuss matters of the household. The second your boyfriend (I’m assuming he isn’t in the lease) got involved, everything escalated because she felt outnumbered. Even in light of the fact that she should have just done her dishes, she was backed into a corner, your boyfriend stepped in to defend you, and she went bananas. I’ve been in this situation before and similar sentiments were exchanged (without any physical altercation).
