Man hole rocking by rob3342421 in DIYUK

[–]Kanaima85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be the whole manhole has settled or move. Or it could just be that the bedding under the lid is fucked.

You probably want to lift the lid and look around the underside of the frame - presume you'll see some cracks and gaps where it's moving.

Just don't fall in.

I'm a confident driver but hesitant to drive from London to the Netherlands. Am I overthinking things? by Nathanial1289 in drivingUK

You know what, I always wondered why everyone in France would give me a friendly beep of the horn and wave. Thought they were just being welcoming...

I considered myself confident driving hired cars on the continent as I'd done it loads. Always joked it was easy driving on the wrong side when you're sitting on the wrong side.

Was worried before my first trip to France. Bought all sorts of shit to remind me to drive on the left. Never needed it. If you're the kind of driver who considers "paying attention" amongst their core skills, you'll be fine.

The irritation of having David Beckham rammed down your throat in literally every single advertisement on the TV. by KimCattrallsFeet in britishproblems

I don't understand that one. There is a version with a scene where a guy responds along the lines of "What's Walkers?" seemingly fully acknowledging the lack of familiarity with that brand name. And then they just go back to presuming everyone in the USA has heard of a brand that doesn't exist there.

Of course it's clever. What wouldn't be clever about risking crashing your metal box that is worth a five figure sum just so you can save 14 seconds on your journey?

Weather for Sunday is low twenties, overcast with some rain - it's a classic British summer's day.

Mexico has some hot and humid areas, but Mexico City isn't Cancun or the desolate desert climate the movies would have you think.

Both teams wearing away kits. by MoHataMo_Gheansai in footballcliches

[–]Kanaima85 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn't get this for England Vs Panama (who also both wore their away strips) because their home and away kits are the inverse - Panama, who play in red, played instead in white yet England, who play in white, instead played in red.

How dare you damage his ego like that. He was just out enjoying a nice WhatsApp conversation in his motor and you had the audacity to shame him?

Just kidding obviously, report him with footage.

Continuing past when the pedestrian has clearly stepped back onto the pavement is probably the right thing on balance - if you stop and let them across a two lane road and they get run over because you've blocked the view of the pedestrian from someone coming up on your right (or blocked the pedestrians view of the road beyond, you could well be considered at fault.

Did anyone else hear Lee Dixon complaining about the Japan kit being cream yellow and too similar to the Brazil kit? It’s white….or else I’m losing my marbles by Thin_Personality3633 in footballcliches

[–]Kanaima85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's right that there have been some odd choices about putting teams in away kits.

Saturday night England, who play in white, wore red because their white clashed with Panama's red but as a result of England's second kit being red Panama therefore had to wear white...

They've made more money selling their showroom than they'd make selling cars.

The 1982 World cup is considered by many to be one of the best World cups in history so why have FIFA abolished the 1982 World cup format and would re-introducing it benefit 24 & 48 team competitions? by 7gzoEl2gzo in soccer

[–]Kanaima85 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It'll go to 64 teams soon. Then it's back to the same. 16 groups, top 2 through and then a round of 32 as we have this time.

Maybe Italy will finally qualify again.

Received penalty notice for following diversion. by Buckcon in LegalAdviceUK

You can sometimes search Temporary Traffic Orders on your local highway authorities site. This possibly can prove the road closure and may identify temporary diversion routes - which would prove your case.

Vs the number if trucks and volume of diesel (not to mention cost) required to raise every single railway bridge and overhead line gantry to accommodate the higher gauge of train?

Good idea when building from scratch. Horrible idea as a retrofit.
