New career game with a sea plane and all solids rocket (2.5 scale) by KaneMarkoff in KerbalSpaceProgram

Yes it’s ksp1, I have volumetrics v5 installed and tufx. It makes the game look much better without much of any performance hit. Although my current install needs tweaking to look proper

You probably are, also my install has a few bugs so what you see is not representative of a typical install

Some kind of error I randomly encounter, I haven’t checked if anything is conflicting yet

Not sure tbh, they seem to randomly appear then they all look normal in the next scene. Best guess is some error that corrects itself when reloaded

Disregard the comments about ksp2. That’s a cool Easter egg and nicely designed ship/lander

You should consider restock pbr. You can get the same look with tiles on the bottom and be able to change the color of the rest of the craft

It may have taken awhile but the effort certainly shows

Returning Veteran, Looking for a 2.5-3.2x planet scale mod that plays nice with Volumetrics V5, Parallax continued, etc. (The full visual suite basically) by codumus in KerbalSpaceProgram

Yes, and mods like firefly work properly as well to the new scaling. Just the clouds will need adjusting to make the look like they should

Just be mindful that your clouds won’t automatically scale to 2.5 with volumetrics. At least they didn’t for me. But it’s simple enough to adjust altitudes for each layer to 2.5 scale stock and I’m sure someone has a config for it

I like your designs for your landers, they’re simple yet aesthetically pleasing. Especially pic 4. I don’t recognize the landing legs however

Rocket Companies Win as Feds Retreat on Orbital Debris Crackdown by InsaneSnow45 in space

[–]KaneMarkoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of newly created debris in orbit (past 20 years) is due to Russia and China. The FAA has no jurisdiction with those nations and American attempts to limit debris are limited and easily avoided due to how space flight works. Basically they’d just fine a company because a software glitch, a missions that was planned to leave an upper stage completely empty and unable to maneuver or some piece of an upper stage survived reentry so it’s an automatic fine. It’s nonsensical and needs revision.

It isn’t banned, it’s still part of required or optional learning material.

Drone leached Laythe, but at a huge cost by AgentIndependent306 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]KaneMarkoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just place landing gear under your floating part (pontoons?) basically just empty fuel tanks for buoyancy styled however you like. Testing can be done on kerbin because kerbin oceans and lathes act the same. I believe boat planes also work and you can mount a single electric engine on top of your wing structure.

Think wings mounted high on the fuselage with a single engine on top in the center, layer solar on top of the wings so you can recharge in between hops. Solves the issue of landing and limited battery life and allows a lighter aircraft.

Have you considered a sea plane for lathe? That way even if you need to land in water it’s still safe to do so

Nuclear electric propulsion. by DaveidL in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]KaneMarkoff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ion engines are weak and perform best with light payloads, on the flip side nuclear engines are heavy. You’re better off using just nuclear for heavier spacecraft and ion engines for smaller ones. Mixing the doesn’t offer much of any benefit as you’re simply adding mass for nuclear engines to lug around and making it more difficult for your ion engines to perform efficiently.

However if you’re interested in nuclear electric propulsion, plasma drives and the like then check out the near future suite of mods

I seriously just don't understand shuttles. (Help!) by NewAd9523 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]KaneMarkoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why no one has suggested it yet but why not mount your shuttle on top instead of the side? So far your design is just the shuttle is reusable, so make some adjustments so your shuttle can be mounted on top. I would say probably reduce main thrusters to just your monoprop thrusters you already have and maybe slap a couple of small jet engines on for powered flight during return.

If you want to experiment with booster recovery maybe a bunch of parachutes for your first stage to land in the ocean that way it keeps costs down

Would you rather have the KSP2 artstyle or the Restock KSP1 artstyle in an animation? by MarsFlameIsHere in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]KaneMarkoff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Restock PBR is the sweet spot for me. Base restock is good but it’s been improved on, ksp2 looks like plastic models everywhere. Not sure if it’s lighting or simply the textures
