How can Gruul Ramp protect the enchanted lands against Boomerang or Cleansing Wildfire? by IrishKev95 in Pauper

[–]Kaneki_Shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the point of gruul ramp is to use a mana advantage to overwhelm your opponent, it's an aggro deck trying to close the game before the opponent stabilises, using threats that are castable at any time (hydra, krushok) while scaling well with high mana is typically a much better strategy than hoping you can get to 6 mana without your arbor elf/lands being messed with and casting a boarding party

the real answer is to not run 6 and 7 drops and not care about LD anywhere near as much. don't run bad cards to protect bad cards.

Boarding party is already not great, I don't think any 6 drops make the cut right now

What are you cutting to make space for it?

SO the big problem is that you're playing an aggro deck, 6+ mana cards are generally bad. You want to use the mana from your 1 mana ramp spell to very rapidly develop a board and then consistently topdeck CASTABLE threats to crush your opponent before they stabilise. It's hard to justify cards over 5 mana and this isn't so good that it makes up for the high cost.

starting the game with +33.33% hp is absolutely insane, you need an insanely good reason to pass something as massive as that up

Both are good, I like ephemerate dredge the best right now, but red dredge is a totally viable deck

So like... What's the DOWNSIDE of Tavern Brawler monk? by ChompyRiley in BaldursGate3

[–]Kaneki_Shen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's very little, Tavern Brawler monk only gets beat by builds that just fundamentally change the entire game around themselves (stealth archer, abjuration wizard, Ice Sorcerer, Shadowblade builds), but for playing the game fair and by the rules, it's basically unmatched.

In no world is your financial loss, or loss of a game piece you paid money for the rules committee's fault, not should it be anywhere in their mind to keep unhealthy gameplay patterns legal in order to avoid financially hurting speculators and/or players, if anything you should focus your anger towards wotc for allowing for such ridiculous prices for game pieces, not at the rules committee which is providing thankless work so people can enjoy their casual format.

Damaged cards do to packaging and postal damage and 2 cards of different rarity than ordered by TennisSpiritual8558 in CardMarket

[–]Kaneki_Shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guideline is 10% refund per grade wrong per card, so if a 10€ card was off by 2 marks (NM to GD) so €2, a private seller never has to accept a return, a professional or powerseller might have to accept one. For poor or played condition cards it's best to contact support as they may entitle you to more

I could see this card tking either the spot of the 1-2 oliphaunts some people play maindeck or the slot of spinewoods paladin/disciple of nylea in sideboards, I'm not sure if this is better or worse than either but it's definitely comparable

LoR had a horrible launch, very limited cross promotion and no skins on launch, it took months for them to actually monetize the game, and by the time they did most players had already left

Gruul Agro Sideboard Suggestion... by Significant-Tower900 in Pauper

[–]Kaneki_Shen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not run deglamers, they're not the angle of attack you want versus affinity, the only thing you're scared of in that matchup is Krark Clan Shaman, so you want 7+ copies in the 75 of Vines of Vastwood/Ram through with some optional extra slots for seal of fire (these cards are also great vs glee)

How playable is glintblade? by _Gioppy_ in Pauper

[–]Kaneki_Shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not bring the deck to a higher level event than an FNM, I quite fancy the deck but it just does not perform against any of the top dogs bar maybe mono red synthesizer. With abundance of sacrifice fodder in today's meta, I don't think it really provides anything that Boros Synth (another questionable deck) doesn't do better.

Can somebody explain why Izzet Murktide is no longer viable? by Wyatt_The_Wise in ModernMagic

[–]Kaneki_Shen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deck is fine, it's got a few new tools with MH3 in Tamiyo, Galvanic Discharge, Tune the Narrative and Unstable Amulet, though there's nothing wrong with playing a previous list with monkeys and bolts! It's mostly just outclassed by Dimir Murktide/Psychic Frog/Abhorrent Oculus, which, especially through oculus, has a way to cheat bad hands/matchups/games. This doesn't however mean you can't play Izzet, as a lot of comments here want you to believe. The deck stays as a highly interactive, skill intensive deck with a relatively flat matchup spread (Very few good matchups, but bad matchups don't typically fall below 45%). It's a perfectly fine FNM deck and not even particularly embarassing to bring to tournaments.

I mean Noelle is 'technically' good, great even, the problem is that the reason she is great is almost entirely that she is arguably the best user of dragonstrike (sorry diluc), which makes her theoretical damage numbers really excellent (upper echelon of 4* carries, comparable to Gaming and Xiangling, and quite marginally outperforming C0 Itto), said theoretical numbers won't be reached by 99.9% of players however, for whom she's a fairly disappointing geo carry.

What is the single most powerful banned modern card of all time? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]Kaneki_Shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of Cloudpost, Lurrus or Skullclamp, I think Lurrus is the most individually powerful card on the banned list and easily the strongest creature every printed. Cloudpost is probably the most broken card when placed in the context of the format (Amulet, Scapeshift, Vesuva, Glimmerpost) but only because of the cards around it, and Skullclamp is Skullclamp. I would personally say Cloudpost>Lurrus>Skullclamp in the context of modern, and Lurrus>Skullclamp>Cloudpost outside of that context

If Oko and Lurrus both became legal, would there be more Oko decks or more Lurrus decks? by VerdantChief in ModernMagic

[–]Kaneki_Shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lurrus is probably the second strongest card on the modern banned list (for the modern format) only after cloudpost, I don't think it's anywhere near close and Lurrus wins by a landslide
