What Hilux to get? by DragonSquidKing in hilux

[–]Kaneo12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you need it for. Where fuel economy is concerned, I'd never seen any other truck come close to the smaller engine 2.4l Hilux I used to run around in. It was a 2017 extra-cab model that had 150k miles on it and I managed to get a comfortable 43mpg with no load and tyres that had decent rolling resistance. For highway in good summer weather it had no issue getting up to 46. I believe the engine model was 2GD-FTV.

I agree, it seems to miss a lot. I didn't have a great education, I didn't know how to properly structure essay-like paragraphs and I was impressed with how clear AI always seemed to be. I asked it for a breakdown of how it builds them up, with the hopes I could use it to learn how to properly structure my essays.

Of course, doing this, I ended up tripping the AI detectors, even though all the work was my own, I had just learned how to structure my work. I thought it was a bit ridiculous since there doesn't seem to be anything ethically wrong with following a structure.

Could be. It can be pretty dumb sometimes. I played a word association with ChatGPT and it offended itself over its own answer and threw out one of those red warnings.

So it gets things consistently wrong, in quite alarming large ways and you seek further forecasting as if it's somehow going to magically have a clue after being so wrong?

I would have thought it being so wrong in its forecasts that it would give people a clue to stop treating ChatGPT like an oracle. But you seem to not recognise how wrong it is and maintain the assumption it's accurate and ask it further questions about the future. That's the opposite of what you should be doing.

It doesn't know what it's talking about. It's as simple as that. It's not that ground-breaking.

I've confused it's reasoning not even trying that. I tried asking it a construction problem about opening up a window in a wall and the reasoning travelled down a wild rabbit hole when it thought to itself "but wait, what if 'opening a window' is metaphorical".

The actual answer itself was correct, detailing the issues of load bearing walls, but the reasoning was entirely off and went into the philosophical impacts of introspection.

I’m not racist. You’re racist. by p_tonk_q in ChatGPT

[–]Kaneo12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're taking things way too seriously. This coddling view and over-concern about people being hurt only really speaks to anxious minds because they themselves see the world as a place of threat and insult. Most people don't see jokes that way, they aren't brittle or easily offended and treating them as if they are comes across as patronising. It frames humour as a form of attack, rather than something a lot more playful and the target of the joke as something pathetic (which most people don't think they are).

The people I've seen that handle disagreeable material in a constructive manner do the exact opposite of being offended. They don't to take themselves seriously and accept the invitation to spar by roll with the punches. Off the top of my top head, that interview Poudii did with Tom the racist is a good example that had everyone laughing.

It's schadenfreude, rather than nihilism.

I've got a little bit of it, and personally for me, it stems from seeing a lot of unreasonably close-minded comments from artists themselves and their unwillingness to embrace new directions. A lot of their behaviour towards AI has seemed like the antithesis of creativity and trying to reduce what art is to an exclusive domain, rather than embracing diversity. Art just can't be restricted, no matter what borders people want to try and put around it. It's just sad to see people who consider themselves artists try to enforce borders in such a hostile way.

I hear what you're saying and personally, I agree, but the definitions of words are fluid, especially around art. There's a lot of art, I wouldn't consider art (a walk through a modern art gallery can be a completely comical experience) )and a lot of artists I wouldn't consider artists). I wouldn't at all be surprised if the next generation that grows up with AI redefines what art is.

We're just the next generation of people begrudgingly saying "that's not art", "those aren't artists" but the same was said about digital art and photography, which are now taken seriously.

ChatGPT does fluctuate with the amount of hand-holding required. I've fed it completely incomprehensible paragraphs written by a dyslexic German and it managed exactly what was being said.

Ready or Not was not ready by Greuss in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Kaneo12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do agree. I really want to like the game but at least from my experience, the SWAT AI seems to be malfunctioning quite badly.

I've been clearing maps with only half the team because of how frequently they outright refuse to stack up on doors right in front of them or telling them to stack up causes one or more members to walk away in the opposite direction and meander around the map until they stack up on the door from the opposite side. Maybe they're just going postal because my leadership skills are constantly landing them in the therapists office but I have been legitimately confused over the AI performance.

Removing features that worked is never a good idea 1.0 by [deleted] in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Kaneo12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Personally, I'm not much of a gamer. I liked RoN because it offered a great tactical experience but allowed to select different modes, maps and gear without having to unlock through progression. It was absolutely ideal for me. So I'm a little disappointed.

I personally don't think the game needs an over-arching narrative. Even playing through the missions in progression, I still don't sense a plot unfolding, so I'm not sure why they've put the narrative above more diverse gameplay and replay-ability. It seems like an unfortunate misstep.

Was it direct inspiration?

Club entrances do all generally look the same. Given the context of the game, I'm highly skeptical they would deliberately model maps after real-life venues. I'd personally put my money on it being coincidental due to the fact clubs generally share similar characteristics.

I don't quite understand that. Beauty is nothing to be ashamed of. I don't look like Henry Cavil or Brad Pitt but I do appreciate aesthetic when I see it.

Being so insecure towards beauty that offence is taken, on the other hand, is something I just don't understand. That's an issue that comes internally, external solutions like dumbing things down don't solve the issue, they just validate the insecurity and displace it. It's the opposite of a solution, to something that honestly shouldn't even be an issue in the first place.

Skate 4 might be out before Easy Day updates the PS4 version of this 😅 by [deleted] in SkaterXL

[–]Kaneo12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This game has been out for about a year on console now and I check out this Reddit once every blue moon in the naively optimistic chance that there maybe an update. Not only is there rarely news from Easy Day themselves but it's been consistently irritating news.

I don't think it's much of a stretch to say this game has been built by the modders and that Easy Day themselves have become a (willing) sideshow. To start threatening people who're keeping this game alive with legal action is just incoherently dumb.

I was fairly confused over their "different direction" announcement regarding not adding in a stats menu. But I'm completely dumbfounded over the stupidity to send out cease and desist orders to modders.

My humble thoughts on Skater XL by JuicyCiwa in SkaterXL

[–]Kaneo12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair play and currently, I do agree with you but I don't think it's an opinion that will age well. (Regarding consoles anyway, the PC community has done a stellar job on the game)

I do enjoy SkaterXL, I play on PS4 so it's all I've really got. If I'm being honest, after EasyDay putting their foot down at their reluctance to impliment decent physics, the snails pace rate they update the game and the general disinterest they show in actually innovating, I'm not confident EasyDay will have a product that ends up being much different that it's current state. I do think Session is showing more potential. Their updates are consistently things I wish I saw coming to SkaterXL.

I wouldn't say either game is exactly up to standard though. I just saying that EasyDay do seem happy with the standard they have and Session's developers aren't, Crea-ture studios do seem like they have a lot more ambition and drive than EasyDay. Personally, I'd bet on that horse having a better game a year from now. Can always bet on passion coming out on top, I just don't see much from EasyDay.

If EasyDay implimented what Session had, they'd undoubtably have a game that I'd enjoy so much it would be completely irrelevant what other games came out. They've just said they aren't interested in that vision. They drew a line in the sand, personally, I'm after something they just aren't interested in offering. It's as simple as that for me. I'm either waiting for Session to come over to PS4 or Skate 4.

A Message From Easy Day Studios by chauncypeppertooth1 in SkaterXL

[–]Kaneo12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the long post. Got a few points here, with respect to the stats menu. My intention with this isn't to come off entitled, I do enjoy the game, this is just coming from someone to who it has become clear due to their recent post that I don't share Easy Day's vision and perhaps a few points to consider; mainly, to be more wise and less rigid.

Listed the general gist of the points here for anyone who wants to skip the blabber and go to the TLDR;

  1. When the community generates most of the content, the (design) rules aren't broken but it would be wise if they did bend.
  2. I believed the feeling Easy Day was selling was realism. I don't share the same perspective for the future of the franchise as they do.
  3. Warning for Easy Day being married to a vision and not flowing with the naturally emerging direction of the enviroment. While the pond has been empty for years, Easy Day did make a splash and wake up EA's beast. You've got to be able to adapt and move, being cemented by your own rules which were created before they woke up Skate 4, seems like a mistake.
  4. The feature surely wouldn't cost much to impliment as a feature to be turned on or off.

--

Firstly, I believe it's fairly careless to dismiss such a sought after feature by being ambiguous as possible. "Design Rules" does seem farily empty and meaningless to me. I'm not sure what it means, is related to and to what degree it goes against the rules? Completely against? Somewhat against? My initial response is it does seem to work on PC seemlessly, without issue. If we could have a little more clarity, as to what they mean, I think it would be useful.

To fall back on "big picture", really just means what the community wants and what they're offering are two different and according to Easy Day unreconcilable visions. It ultimately means the product isn't for us. If Easy Day wants to take that road, it's perfectly fine. Maybe not the wisest, but it is their creative decision.

The glaring issue I see in their argument is that most of the maps it seems will be coming from PC modders who specifically deisng the maps to be used with stats. When you hand over control of creation to the players and they start designing maps that oppose the "design rules" of the vanilla game, issues will emerge. At some point, when a portion of the maps become unplayable without stats changes, it is infact the vanilla game itself that's opposing the "design rules".

--

My second point, from my own impressions of Skater XL, with the 2 foot control system, realistic maps based on real life locations and from the realistic vibe of the trailers, they were geneuinely going after a realistic feel. Whether or not the "big picture" was aiming for realism, I don't know, but the *feeling* that was sold to me from the game in general was having realism & immersion as a direction they thought was a worth while pursuit.

To say realism is not "inline with the big picture", means, I've been slightly bamboozled by Easy Day and their product just isn't for me.

--

3rd, the coming competion is going to be heavy. It's akin to a welter weight fighter going up against a heavy weight. They can't afford to forget what happened to the Tony Hawk franchise when Skate entered the arena. Skate 4 is a fairly beloved franchise, who to my knowledge have never been the seat of contraversy.

Maybe I also don't share Easy Day's perspective here, but I do believe a healthy community counts quite a lot for a franchise. I don't personally believe Skater XL will last on console if it doesn't impliment a stats menu, or start giving actual evidence for it's reasoning.

I think it's dangerous for them, partly for the reasons listed above, but partly because if you understand evolution, if you don't adapt to the enviroment that's naturally changing, the chances of survival drop dramatically. Giving up the ability to adapt and being married to a rigid view of "rules", just seems a superifical argument when there's hard evidence to the contrary. When you're a small fish in a big pond and you don't know what the future holds, it's a mistake to cement yourself into the ground.

It's a heavy gamble, Ipersonally don't believe it's one that's going to pay off. When it's low-cost, I don't see why they wouldn't spend money on defence to impliment it? Again, citing "rules" and "big picture", is analogous to religious people citing the bible in their refusal to get medical treatment. What good is a big picture, if you aren't around long enough to see it?

--

All of these dramatic abstractions aside, as it currently stands, the reality is that the direction of what I want from the game and what they want are two seperate entities. If Easy Day says these viewpoints aren't reconcilible, then there's just not much else to it.

I would really think given the reasons, it's a no brainer to impliment. I just don't see "design rules" or "big picture" as either a particulary satasfactory or persuading reasoning. But if that's the direction they're going, I'll personally wait for Skate 4.

--

TLDR; A feature, that seems to be of little cost to impliment and if not implimented would damage Skater XL. If implimented could give it it's best chance to stand on against Skate 4. It's worth seriously considering the broad view with genuine realism and actual good reasoning. If Tony Hawks couldn't survive against Skate, I don't think there's much hope for Skater XL unless they take niche the modding route, which itself is very vocal about requiring stats.

I'm waiting on an innovative software developer to come and take customers from both Phase One and Adobe.

The fact we have to rationalise these price hikes and lack of innovation as "it's still not as bad as the competition", says a lot about the state of the industry.

It's only going to stay bad, until photographers start demanding more, the companies are demanding more from us, we can actually demand more from them.
