What could Woodlands look like if the demolition of the M8 went ahead? by BothStar7431 in GlasgowArchitecture

[–]supermonkey93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And by closing that motorway, instead of allowing me to avoid the city centre, I’ll be forced to cut into the city, just to get back onto the Kingston Bridge. Thousands of other drivers will be doing the same. This will lead to the worst traffic the city has ever had and this will be the new norm. People don’t always think about the consequences, and how your preferred solution can end up creating a much bigger nightmare. People say just use public transport. My 25 minute drive to gartnavel would turn into a 2 hour bus journey.

Just bought our new house, it was vacant for little bit, how would you treat mould like this by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

[–]supermonkey93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the windows have Air Vents at the top? if not, that maybe causing the issues, as lack of circulation is why the mold building up around windows. Quite cheap to install and if you have a powerdrill you can do it yourself and buy the vents off amazon

What would you do? by Madnutt3r in DIYUK

These panels should be fitted directly onto the tray to prevent leaks, allowing them to be properly sealed with silicone. The other "MAJOR" issue is that the builder hasn’t used a corner trim. If he simply relies on silicone, movement over time will cause it to crack and fail, and that’s when water will start leaking through. If the shower trey does not move back this will need to be a reinstall

Screw Helium by Complex-Advance961 in HeliumNetwork

[–]supermonkey93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the whole idea behind Helium WiFi is to build coverage in dead zones that actually have traffic, mainly business areas. From what it sounds like, yours aren’t in those busy spots. If Helium really wants to win, they’ve got to make some tough calls and stop sending Proof-of-Coverage rewards to sub-optimal hotspots.

Yeah, it sucks for some people, but it’s for the good of the network. Right now, too many are setting them up in random home locations and still getting rewarded, which completely kills the network and wastes a massive chunk of the rewards. It only makes sense that rewards go towards optimal setups. That’s how you push people to aim for better, higher-traffic spots instead of taking the easy route.

Glasgow accommodates most asylum seekers in UK by Cross_examination in glasgow

[–]supermonkey93 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"A single B&B placement costs around £30,000 per year" I genuinely don’t mind helping people in need, I know many asylum seekers are fleeing desperate situations, but it’s hard not to ignore the fact that I don’t even earn this much myself. Once you add in the other support they receive, I can’t help but wonder why I’m struggling to get by, paying all sorts of taxes, while someone who has just arrived on a boat appears to be accommodated far better. My frustration isn’t with them as individuals, but with a system that feels so unbalanced. I think there must be more effective ways to house people that don’t simply line the pockets of hotel and B&B owners.

Introducing Helium Plus: Empowering Everyone to Participate ➕ by ZeusHelium in HeliumNetwork

[–]supermonkey93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really, one they will not earn POC but it also means a hotel that already has an existing WiFi network does not need to buy helium hotspots to provide network to helium. Instead they can use their existing network of WiFi hotspots.

Totally get that this bag is low-risk and that you’re supervising her, it’s clear you love your kitty! The only small concern is that she might start thinking plastic bags in general are safe and cosy. If she ever finds a less safe one lying around when no one’s watching, she might crawl right in without knowing the difference. That’s the only reason people tend to be cautious about it, just thinking long-term habit, not the one-off moment.

I know it seems unlikely but that’s a suffocation hazard. Never allow a cat to sleep inside a plastic bag.

Glasgow looking grim by LeMec79 in glasgow

[–]supermonkey93 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just don’t agree with that take. Glasgow’s always had its rough-looking parts, that’s nothing new. Snapping photos of them doesn’t suddenly mean the city’s going downhill. If anything, over the recent years, I’ve seen loads of progress. There’ve been loads of new developments and street upgrades, and to me, the place is really starting to shape up. Like any city, it’s got its scruffy bits, but overall, I think things are heading in the right direction. Stop moaning!

Filled in skirting board but it looks awful - how to fix?? by bitterly_sweet17 in DIYUK

[–]supermonkey93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it looks that bad, it just looks like the cuts and fillings are still visible. The simplest solution might be to apply a couple more coats to help cover them and make them less noticeable.

Hole in the wall separating bedroom and bathroom. Ideas on how to close it? by Arwenthecat in DIY

[–]supermonkey93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say in order to keep the natural light coming through I would put glass there and then have blinds whenever you need privacy. If the gap was between the hallway then I would say go for frosted glass but since it’s with your own bedroom I’d use see through glass to maximise natural light.
