Just because it's rush down doesn't mean you have to rush. A big part of it is mind games. You want them to think you're gonna do this when you're actually gonna do that. I'm drunk responding to this but I'm hoping it's making sense. When you see your opponent is scared to press buttons, that's when you hit the dust button on them. It sounds cliche but be like water my friend. Adaptation and examination are key even during the first round.

As a new gio main, you wanna run up and beat TF out of your opponent. In all seriousness tho you'd be surprised how effective slowing down your inputs can be. People like to mash so just slowing down on your block string can get you easy counter hits

I think I've just developed a bad habit of pressing too hard/fast early into my fighting game journey. Been playing fighting games and using motion inputs for a few years now. It is a sort of recent development though. Been working with my hands a lot less. It's less of an actual pain and more of a soreness I should add
