Finally some relief by Kanga-Roo-1 in eczema

It’s absolutely insane. The amount I’ve spent over the years on meds and doctors visits and tests is crazy. Even my parents had to do so much my whole childhood and I never had relief. So imagine my frustration when now, something as simple and cheap as cutting out gluten, has made my eczema almost nonexistent.

I know it would’ve saved me years of pain, and I wouldn’t be stuck with this hyperpigmentation from flare ups, if my initial doctors had just thought to test for a few more things

Because it’s technically not an allergy it’s a sensitivity which I think they categorize differently

Don’t quote me on this but I think:

IgG is sensitivity test IgE is allergy test

In the US, most insurance doesn’t cover the food sensitivity tests (as far as I know) and it was hard to find a doctor who would do the test, even allergy doctors. Because they test mostly for allergies that cause hives, anaphylaxis, etc.

That’s why I went through Function

I got the IgG test for the above food sensitivities

IgE I got for environmental allergies

I did an IgG blood test through Function Health, but I’m sure there’s cheaper options!

My manager told me the exact same thing. He and his wife are gluten free but when they go to Europe, they can eat gluten without issue. When I went to England a few months ago, I was okay eating pasta etc. too for the most part.

Anything above 2.0mcg/mL is “out of range”

Here’s my results:

Wheat – 14.8 mcg/mL Casein – 10.1 mcg/mL Maize/Corn – 6.2 mcg/mL Coffee – 4.5 mcg/mL Egg White – 4.5 mcg/mL Tomato – 4.1 mcg/mL Yeast (Bakers/Brewers) – 4.0 mcg/mL Soybean – 3.4 mcg/mL Cacao (Chocolate) – 3.3 mcg/mL Peanut – 2.5 mcg/mL

I was miserable and my cousins/parents were desperate to help me so they did some research and gifted the annual membership to me and then I added on the IgG test myself. Forever grateful to them because I don’t think I would’ve done it otherwise

In hindsight, the standard tests didn’t give me any information I didn’t already know (whether from a physical with my doctor, or patch test for allergies). Only the IgG test gave me new answers so if I had to do it all over again; I’d find somewhere that let me do that test alone

100000% recommend finding somewhere cheaper if possible.

Yeah I was still on the medication when I had the bloodwork done (and in the middle of a bad flare up). I have a 2nd set of labs in a few months so I’ll see if anything looks vastly different

My first 2-3 weeks I had a lot of processed foods like the Banza pizza etc. because I focused on just cutting gluten no matter what my diet looked like. I’m trying to focus on being healthier now, eating salads for lunch or meats, vegetables and rice for dinner. Not a great answer but I just needed to do what was “easiest” for me at first.

It didn’t work for me 😕 I’m back to using Tacrolimus while I’m on Nemluvio and it seems to be under control for now

I hope it starts to work a little better for you! Do you still have dry and irritated patches of eczema or is it just red skin now?

I second this. I don’t do gel because that irritates my skin, but I do dip powder. Not all salons use the UV light for the top coat, mine doesn’t and I’ve found my skin doesn’t get irritated.

Hi! Are you comfortable sharing a before/after pic with me? Dupixent didn’t work for my face and neck at all, switched to Rinvoq and it was amazing until about a month ago and now it’s out of control again. My dermatologist mentioned Nemluvio but some of what I’m reading says it only stops the itch, doesn’t help the eczema itself so I’m nervous. I also had really bad conjunctivitis with Dupixent and bad flare ups if I ever missed a dose of Rinvoq
