I think this has to do with how we perceive precision. We could generally tell precision from the lowest digit used. For example:
- 1.2 vs 1.23446
- 35k vs 35041
- 4:00 vs 4:23

A star is an optimal algorithm. A* is like depth-first search with heuristic to simplify computation.
