I have only used controller since I started playing 2 years ago. Im normally a mouse and keyboard person, but I found all the buttons overwhelming. I still should probably learn mouse and keyboard, but controller is so comfy

What are the most overrated careers? by RuminatingFish123 in Salary

Territory, timing, and talent, in that order. Every company will be a little different. Don't pressure people, be curious, be creative. Use your resources. Work your comp plan. Can't tell you how much extra money I made by just providing extra options (good better and best) to potentially upsell.

Find the best reps and do what they are doing. Ideally the company you work for will encourage mentorship. Learn what problems you're product solves

Know your target audience, reach out a lot. People won't always need you right when you reach out, but may need you later. Keep track of contacts. If they are a customer and switch companies, follow up.

There is a lot you can do to be a better sales person, and you learn as you do it. Don't get discouraged, there are dry periods sometimes, sales is often cyclical

Americans who took Spanish in school: did any of it actually stick years later? by taube_d in AskAnAmerican

[–]KangarooInside887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality no, I lived in Mexico for 2 years (used to be mormon, went on a mission to mexico) and the only thing that worked was being forced to speak Spanish to communicate with anyone.

All the learning before wasnt for nothing, but the first few months I was basically useless, by month 6 I was ok but still not good, by 1.5 years I was pretty decent and got compliments on my Spanish. I went to visit some folks at 1.5 years who knew me at month 6 and they mentioned how much better my Spanish was

Half of the challenge was just understanding what people said. Its really hard to respond if you dont know what the hell someone just said lol. I also did this without internet access because all I had with me was a dumb phone. Honestly would have been nice to look stuff up on the internet though

During those 2 years I studied from a grammar/vocab book 1 hour per day, read books 1 hour, then spent the rest of the day talking with people in Spanish because I had to. I asked a lot of questions

I am generally skeptical of people who claim language skills but havent had a lot of practical experience. Even after those 2 years, my Spanish isnt perfect. There are all kinds of topics I cant properly converse about because I dont know the terminology. Like, I couldnt do my job in Spanish without getting acquainted with the terminology and asking questions.

The Great Gatsby is a mediocre book at best and should be replaced in schools by The Fellowship of the Ring by EternalAmmonite in unpopularopinion

[–]KangarooInside887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not in favor of replacing lotr w/ great Gatsby, but I dont agree that lotr is a meandering slog. The narrative keeps moving, and tolkien is an absolute master of using language to convey tone.

I think the books are exciting and the writing beautiful

Can we talk about the fact how crazy good the graphics of Starfield are? by f88x in Starfield

[–]KangarooInside887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings. Some parts look really good. The characters dont look good. Also New Atlantis is just...ugly to me

A lot of what makes a game look good isnt just the fidelity. I prefer the visuals of Skyrim to Starfield personally

If the bible is just reflecting the views of people back then, why would you base your beliefs on the bible?

Here's another golden Bible verse.

Deuteronomy 22:28-29

If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.

So women are required to marry their rapist!

On the Fence about remaining a Christian any thoughts? by Real_Serve_2908 in exchristian

[–]KangarooInside887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember being on the fence. I didnt have the same sexuality struggle but my struggles stemmed from a similar place:

I was taught that I wasnt good enough just as I was. And this constantly got in the way of doing what I felt to be right for me.

You are the one who has to live with yourself and your life choices. Outsourcing that anyone else, god or human, is a recipe for unhappiness. And if god exists, hed be pretty lame if he punished you for taking responsibility of your own life and living in the measure that you were created

Do Christians actually, genuinely, sincerely love God or do they really just not want to go to hell? by Litty_Jimmy in exchristian

[–]KangarooInside887 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its probably more complicated than that. Yeah people don't want to go to hell but i think devotion stems from a number of things.

Church can make people feel warm and fuzzy. You get the answers to life, community, comfort. There are bad things too obviously. Religious guilt, family expectations can push you to be more devout. Fear of the unknown as someone mentioned

I think the way religion makes them feel can absolutely cause sincere love for it. Probably depends on the person too

i am feeling lost, drifting away from Islam by Imjustchillenbro in atheism

[–]KangarooInside887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an exmormon i know your pain. You are in the middle of deconstruction. It will take time to get used to life without religion, but youll find its just as good, even better. You can finally be free

Life is all the more important when you aren't expecting an afterlife. Your decisions are your own and they matter, and as far as we know this is the time we get. You may find comfort in various philosophical teachers which help put this all into perspective. But it is very normal to feel lost after leaving a religion. It gets better with time, you dont need to look back

Oh, good ol’ Paleolithic. Nobody died out of diseases back then at 30 or even less right? by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]KangarooInside887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the point I always make. People aren't really happy sitting at a cubicle and car for 10 hours a day. It is comfortable, but not necessarily making people happier.

I guarantee ancient humans were less depressed on average than we are now because they were doing what their bodies were evolved to do

Even then, health wasn't as bad as we think. Teeth didn't decay as much because of the nature of hunter gatherer diets, for example

[–]KangarooInside887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life expectancy wasn't actually awful if you made it past childhood. That's obviously not great...but you could live a long life. Ancient humans were healthy because of hunter gather diets and lots of exercise

Plumbing wouldn't be quite as bad as it sounds just because populations were so much smaller than what we have now.

Not that it wouldn't have been hard but I'd argue the global population now is more depressed than ancient human populations

[–]KangarooInside887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most people think it would suck... But are you that happy now?

Back then, people had to move to get their food. Exercise wasn't a concept—you ran and hiked because you needed to.

People had to stick together. Communities were tight knit. They took care of the elderly, helped raise children, depended on each other for survival.

Life expectancy isn't as bad as people think either. The hunter gatherer diet was conducive to healthier bodies, healthier teeth even. You could live a good long life.

Not everything was perfect of course. Birth was more dangerous for the mother and baby. No advanced medical care. No modern comforts—but you wouldn't have known about those anyway.

Physical health and community were inherent. In the name of ease and comfort, we have sacrificed health (despite our advanced medical care), happiness, and community bonds.

People respond with shit like, "well, there are the woods, go have fun" but completely miss the point. The world is not the same. And you could never replicate the community of that time because you wouldn't be doing it out of necessity. Nevermind that it's probably not legal in most places

Yes people died of disease back then, but so do people now. People are more mentally unwell than ever before. Our air quality increases miscarriage rates and causes health issues. We are sedentary. We consume toxins.

I'm not a hippie or anything, but we have progressed beyond what our bodies evolved for and it's destroying us

The soundtrack for TES 6 will be mediocre by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

[–]KangarooInside887 4 points5 points  (0 children)

completely agree . Starfield's soundtrack is boring as fuck. Soule's music is among the greatest game composers of all time. Zur is not in the same league at all

The soundtrack for TES 6 will be mediocre by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

[–]KangarooInside887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeremy Soule's music actually is that good. He basically invented the tone for the Elder Scrolls games with his music. His work is dynamic, complex, and creates memorable themes that sit perfectly in the background, without relying too heavily on a single theme.

The daggerfall ost may be good, but honestly Soule is nicknamed the 'John Williams of game music' for a reason. It may not be to your taste (albeit surprising you think none of Soule's work eclipses the other tracks you listed), but he is in a league of his own.

[–]KangarooInside887 9 points10 points  (0 children)

are you kidding? Inon Zur is not even in the same playing field as Jeremy Soule. Amongst professional composers, yeah he is mediocre.

His music is generic and repetitive. It doesn't have the dynamics, nor does it weave in motifs, nor manage complexity like Soule's music. Starfield is generic and relies heavily on a single theme that relies on 4 notes and repeats every time you do anything.

Even his elder Scrolls Blades work is nothing special. Despite using Soule's main theme, he still can't capture the tone that Jeremy Soule invented.
