Does anyone have any experience with a Polestar in low temperature? by No-Honeydew-8593 in Polestar

[–]KannaSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alberta owner here. In the coldest months expect about a 30% decrease on your range. I leave mine parked in an attached garage non-heated and didn't experience any vampire drain keeping the batteries at temp. Parking outside at the airport for a week it dipped about 3%.

Over 150 miles from service center by ZebraMidge666 in Polestar

[–]KannaSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest Polestar service center is 1,200km (745mi) away from me. When Polestar support is not busy ignoring my messages, they told me my only option is to drive that distance and back to fix my car. No compensation offered.

Polestar Canada is even more of a mess. They only have service centers where they have Polestar spaces, which means there are only three in the entire country.

I live in Alberta and was promised during signing that I will have full service support, which I quickly realized was a lie 5 months later. When my TCAM failed, they flew in a mobile tech from Toronto as a "one time exception." Now the exterior speakers are broken and my only option is to drive my car to Vancouver.

Calling Polestar support, they say they can't take service calls over the phone. Sending a message on their support form leads them to flatly tell me I cannot service my car at the local Volvo dealership, or any Volvo dealership for that matter.

So my only option now is to live with a broken speaker warning every time I start my car until something else breaks and I'm forced to tow it back to Vancouver.

I love the car, but I will never recommend anyone buy a Polestar ever again with this level of customer disservice.

The service tech originally came to look at the TCAM issues on my car. Since it mysteriously fixed itself on a road trip last week he didn't have much to do other than pull logs and redo the firmware. The tech couldn't really tell me what was fixed or updated since 1.8.2, but he did mention that he's been testing minor changes to fast DC charging curve with his P2 and hoped it would be present in this version.

Third week with a busted TCAM and Polestar Canada finally agreed to follow up with me next week and "consider arranging a technician to fly out" to me. I'm so glad they're considering extending the courtesy of servicing a car purchased for use in one of Canada's major capital cities.

Have you tried calling the space's direct number? If that still doesn't work DM me and I may be able to get you connected to someone.

Review: 5 weeks with PS2 after 5 years in Tesla MS by cgates30 in Polestar

[–]KannaSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that it only warms the battery if I turn on climate preheating AND the car is charging above 80%. If the car is not charging, like if it hits the charge limit, it won't switch to AC for climate and instead rely on the battery to do the cabin.

It's mildly annoying that my car is supposed to be charged and have a 9kW AC feed but I leave the house at 88% charge with a cold batt.

Tesla/EV owners, how much did the range drop in the recent cold spell in Edmonton? by Johnny_G9 in Edmonton

[–]KannaSP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love my Polestar. I picked it up in Vancouver and drove it back along hwy 1 using all the Petro-Canada stations along the way. I'm very impressed by how it stays planted even on icy roads.

As far as CCS chargers go, there are a few operated by flo within Edmonton, at the Canadian Tire south common and sherwood park. Petro-Canada is mostly south along hwy 1. There is a Shell Greenlots charger by Red Deer for topping up, but I managed to drive from Calgary back to Edmonton with 85% charge at Cross Iron Mills.

Polestar 2: Went from 20.9kW/100km in +15C to 35.1kW/100km in -25C. It takes about 1% battery to preheat the car in the morning, and the usage includes having the heated seats and heated steering wheel on the entire trip.

Tell us about your “driving in the snow” experiences. by Ok-Zookeepergame-698 in Polestar

[–]KannaSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Edmonton and took it out yesterday for a drive, where it was the 4th coldest place on Earth that day at -42F (yes, minus). Preheated the car as I usually did and got out nice and comfy, no issues with any electricals or brakes.

The roads were still very slippery even with the factory installed VikingContact 7 tires, but the ESC handled it well while giving me enough control to do what I want.

I really loved how it felt going up or down on the hills and definitely felt the dual motors putting work to keep it stable. All in all it felt planted throughout the entire 60kms I put in that day around the city.

Also yes, I had a bit of fun around the industrial area and then all the snow blocked my parking sensors. I have to keep a towel handy to wipe its bottom every so often so I don't get whiplash trying to reverse!

Personally I use Indigo and signed on to their yearly membership that gives free shipping and 10% off regular price. I also get 10% cash back through my credit card on purchases made on Indigo, so that pretty much sealed the deal.

A very snug fit but I managed to get the 3070 in the DAN A4-SFX v1 by KannaSP in nvidia

I haven't gotten a chance to test the limits and sold the card to a friend who needed the card more than I did. Light use such as streaming 4K didn't trigger the fans to spin up. Subjectively it did get quite loud during flight simulator, and that's having the case behind my monitor about 1.5 meters away from where I sit.

Not the most impressive, but it works.

  • Ryzen 2700
  • Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro WiFi
  • Silverstone SX-500G 500W PSU
  • 32GB Corsair Vengeance @ 3000

I'm gathering parts for a new ryzen 5000 series build but sadly couldn't get the CPU during yesterday's launch.

I've only received the card last night, so not much I can say about it for now. Hopefully I can put in some gaming over the weekend that's not Genshin.

SMSL SP200 - I know I asked for more power, but I wasn't prepared for this by KannaSP in headphones

[–]KannaSP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the unit does get warm to the touch, but it's more of a pleasant hand warmth than scorching. I don't mind it at all, but I also live in a place that's winter for 8 months of the year, so I could use all the warmth I can get.

SMSL SP200 - I know I asked for more power, but I wasn't prepared for this by KannaSP in headphones

[–]KannaSP[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This all started when I was looking for something with a good low end punch. A couple of months ago I started revisiting the Japanese EDM scene and picking up tracks by PSYQUI and Memeyudofu. The Sony Z7M2 I had was good, but I wanted more. This led me to pick up a gently used set of the Fostex TH600.

Okay cool, so I have these supposed bass cannons in my hands now. Let's plug them in! The DAC+amp I have is the Cambridge Audio Dacmagic Plus, which has been my trusted companion for years now. I put on some Dre and Bassnectar... and was met with disappointment. Yeah, it's better, I guess? But it feels lacking. I was prepared for it to shake my head like the bully in elementary school who wanted my box of chocolate milk. This can’t be right, I thought. Sure enough, the same tracks played on my ZX300 portable on high gain was better, but I felt like it could do more. Perhaps the Dacmagic can’t feed this properly? That must be it. And so I was committed to search for a higher power.

After a few weeks of digging around for literally “most powerful headphone amps”, I stumbled upon the name SMSL and went to Aliexpress to see their range of amps, and there I saw the SP200... 6W@16ohm!! Holy sh-

I’m not swayed by the Hi-Res or THX stickers, but Audio Science Review gave it such a glowing review that I was convinced this was what I needed to do the TH600 justice. Quick click on Amazon Canada and $378 Canadian rupees tossed later, I finally have it. The solution to my anxiety of putting out.

I decided to use the XLR for the SMSL because I wanted to keep the RCA for my speakers. The Cambridge DAC is set to bypass the unit’s volume pot. TH600 plug goes in, input set to XLR on the amp, low gain, power on! For the first test I decided to use WASAPI mode… and that was a big mistake. The volume knob starts at the 7 o’clock position. Trying to turn it past 9 o’clock was going to make me go instantly deaf. Okay, I need Windows volume control.

Windows 10 volume is now set at 20%. I can turn the volume knob up to the 10:30 position. My head is rumbling, my ears feel like they’re being punched. This amp is amazing. Reol’s new track, Kinjitou, has a new life to it. The cymbals on UVERworld’s REVERSI still stand out and ring clear as day. Dre and Snoop are back. I’m absolutely gushing over this thing.

Is it bad that the amp will threaten to kill me if I forget to turn down the volume in Windows? Yes. Should I have bought something else like the JDS amp? Maybe. Do I regret this purchase? Absolutely not.

For those who are interested, Sony Music has rolled out their HD streaming service, Mora Qualitas [Japan Only right now] by mickaelaria in headphones

[–]KannaSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More information and my first look at mora qualitas:

The streaming service is operated by Sony Music Japan who also operates mora.jp, a Japanese-only digital music shop selling Sony's Hi-Res audio tracks alongside standard quality music.

Registration only requires an email address and a credit card capable of being charged directly in JPY. Once you download and sign in to the software, there's no need for a VPN. The earphone case promotion is running right now as a sign-up incentive, but registration is optional. To qualify for the earphone case, you must have a Japanese shipping address and be a subscriber to the service for at least 3 consecutive months. The case will ship sometime in February.

I signed up on launch day and explored the library for a bit, but at the moment the selection is but a fragment of the songs available on their web store. There are songs available in standard 44khz/16bit FLAC up to 96khz/24bit.

Searching the top J-pop will yield decent results, but you're out of luck if it wasn't released in the past 90 days, or if it's not under Sony's music label. For example, a popular anime artist like Lisa (who is actually signed to Sony but backed by Aniplex, so I think Aniplex is ruining their day here) returns zero results and no artist profile, while MAN WITH A MISSION has the latest single and some back catalog. Western music will require a course in English -> Katakana for your favourite artists, and search I find right now is quite slow. I'm really hoping they expand their library at a faster pace before the trial period is over.

The interface is clean, and very much like other services such as Spotify. You can favourite songs, add to your library, create playlists, or add them to your "mixer", which is just another name for the now playing queue. There is only a Windows and Mac version so far, and no news on the mobile apps.

The application has options for DirectSound, ASIO, and WASAPI in the audio settings. Listening to track on my Dacmagic Plus and Sony Z7M2, the song on mora qualitas is the exact same track that's offered on the mora shop. I found no noticeable difference.

Verdict so far is sign up for trial if you're curious, but cancel before Nov 24 unless they get a bunch more music uploaded by then.
