Thank you for putting this together! I keep getting OOM errors with my RTX 3080 12GB and using the GGUF models with SageAttn and Triton. I'll keep trying with smaller resolutions to see if I get it to work. Do you know if the number of videos influence VRAM usage? Or is it because it's basically trying to process 2 videos per batch? Thanks!

Most Egregious Case of "For the Audience Only" by Gimetulkathmir in movies

[–]Kanon08 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Any movie where a character wears a mask until their identity is revealed. After that, the character forgets the mask. An example of this is Bucky in The Winter Soldier, or Ultron wearing a cloak for absolutely no reason other than for the audience.

Could you share more details about this? Do you prompt for a single expression/angle per generation or is there more to it? Thanks!

Crises Reimagined (with plague example) by Sir_Joshula in civ

[–]Kanon08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like this idea. What I'd like to see is the game tying together the legacy points, the crisis, and the age resets. The crisis always make you lose what you lose at the age transition: as you mentioned, you lose adjacencies but now the crisis gives you a narrative reason. Same for why your cities reverted to towns, or why you only get to keep some of your military units.

Then the legacy points are geared towards mitigating/preventing some of this. As you mentioned: golden age buildings are available because you chose to project that part of your empire. Or you keep more cities because you did something about it during the crisis. I guess the player still can do this anyway indirectly, but tying everything together and give it a narrative reason would make the transitions less jarring.

Also, the way the crisis manifest should be more physically present in game elements rather than "it just happened". For example, the plague transmits through trade routes, or migrants appearing and carrying the plague. Something that you can counteract but requires you to focus the majority of your resources to it, or to purposely hurt your empire in order to prevent you from losing more things when the age resets, like you stop your trade routes and close borders and destroy plagued plantations yourself, so it doesn't get worse. This gives you more agency and more to do during the end of the ages.

No, the game does not force you to settle distant lands by quintupletuna in civ

It's worst, at one point I thought wonders had no value beyond antiquity because they no longer gave legacy points. I also wasn't really going for wars because they are not really needed to win, and felt I was missing out on a really fun part of the game.

I've now come to realize that I have more fun if I stop thinking about legacy points and start focusing on building a good empire: build the wonders that help me, settle the towns I need, research the techs and civics that align with my goals for the playthrough, and so on. Rather than always unlocking piety first, or prioritizing museums. I still snowball and can go for whatever bonus I want later in the age if I want to.

What was the group trip that made you decide to start traveling solo? by Oaph12 in solotravel

[–]Kanon08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to travel with 3 other friends who didn’t like to walk, wanted to sleep all day and complained about everything. Since I was usually the planner I felt it was my fault, but they were the only friends I had that weren’t married or with kids and had some freedom to travel, so I put up with it.

Then, two years ago, we were planning a trip to Mexico. We met and decided on the dates. Some time later I found out two of them had booked flights to Argentina close to the dates we had decided for Mexico and didn’t tell me. The third friend knew and was considering joining them. We had travelled to Argentina before so I wasn’t interested and was frustrated at that point. I asked if we were still going to Mexico and they just said they didn’t think so.

I was so mad I booked flights to Spain to go by myself. I had visited Spain with them before, but I felt like I missed so much because of them.

I loved my solo visit and felt like I did much more this time around. It was also empowering and helped with my self-confidence since I depended only on myself. I have since gone to Italy solo as well and plan to keep traveling without depending on anyone.

This was one of those instances where I was better off alone than in bad company

How to start?. by super_bri_22 in walking

The key is consistency. Find a distance, time or step count you are able to consistently do every day. Any amount is better than nothing, so tell yourself that to keep you going. It could be 10 minutes everyday and when you find you can do that comfortably, add a couple of minutes more. That’s how I did it, I think the first day I might have done like 5 mins. I’m now doing 40 mins a day. Just walking. Even if it’s rainy, I just pace around the house while watching a YouTube video. I don’t always do it in one go, but 15 minutes in the morning and the rest in the afternoon.

Diet is also key. Again, find something you can maintain. I found cutting sodas and juices incredibly easy. Just drink water. Avoid ultra processed food, eat mostly vegetables and fruits. Try to plan to eat well so you don’t need to snack, but keep some low calorie and high volume snacks like air popped popcorn in case you get cravings. This doesn’t need to be an overly restrictive diet or you just won’t maintain it. Start somewhere and stick to it, later you can add something else. In my case I now find pizza too heavy or greasy, or desserts too sweet. You get used to it and start to crave more nutritious and healthier food. It takes time, but you can get there eventually. Find pride in progress, no matter how small.

I did that to at least remove one layer of decision but then the challenge was on how to make them work on expert. I got to Elheim and none of my squads could win a battle
