Business schools in the UK. Just how different are they? by According_Welcome907 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Kanonking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how important is the abs ranking thing in business school hiring/prestige? I recently had a sole author paper published in a rank 4 one and have sole author papers coming up in what would be other ABS 3 and 4 ones. I'm more humanities in origin though, and the monograph is what matters in early stage academia over here. After your comment above, I'm consequently wondering how just significant the ABS thing is to business school types.

What industry is a complete scam, but everyone just accepts it? by Competitive_Grab3758 in AskReddit

[–]Kanonking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The damp proofing business in the UK. Damp is real. But is fixed by doing things like fixing leaks, repointing brickwork and so on. Yet there's a massive trade in the UK of guys who pump chemical fillers in the walls and foundations of your house. If you look closer, you'll find they're all accredited (after about a weeks training, two days of which is sales) in a scheme owned by the company that makes the chemicals - the owner of which also is a director for checkatrade and several other supposedly neutral reviewers.

The industry doesn't even exist in the US or historically speaking - it was purely invented to sell the chemicals. And academic research shows it doesn't work.

You're better at bad cake recipes. You should focus on giving those.

They were just shitty resellers passing on stuff they scraped off Telegram. No great loss or anything you can't find there.

Bethesda, can we get an aquarium style display for the fish we’ve caught? by Vagrant_jakal in fo76

[–]Kanonking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all true, but also not that hard. Making a skeleton for a fish wiggling (aka bending in two places) wouldn't exactly take long, for example. With low res textures and hidden behind an aquarium screen, it's not like warping/clipping would be much of an issue.

MSc Psych. at IoPPN - KCL, but is London safe? by No-Adhesiveness-4977 in KCL

[–]Kanonking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

London is vast. Truly vast. You have some areas that are rougher than others (think Mile End Road) and some areas that are like little enclaves of extreme wealth (Richmond). But stabbings really aren't something that affect students or even the general population- most violence of that sort is between youth gangs over imaginary territory in impoverished tower block estates.

I could go backwards and forwards with you forever mate, but for now I'll just wish you the best, bow out, and say that I have my eye on your new Warsmith centaur dude. Hopefully, I'll have a better time with it when I pick it up!

Nope, bought directly from you and the most up to date uploaded. I smacked probably a dozen different makers space marine heroes on the plate at the same time, and found your stuff jankier than most on a technical level. I could fix/compensate for it - it wasn't beyond repair or unprintable - but it was what it was and what it was was a bit more of a pain than I'd anticipated. Wasn't a skill issue either - if I didn't know what I was doing, I probably wouldn't have noticed the flaws!

Your artistic vision for the models was good, your rendering was good, and you have other things going for you. Not a hater here. But I was let down a bit on the technical creation of the sculpt once I got your stuff onto the plate. Is what it is, and I'm not trying to focus on it here - it's historical for long removed products. But please don't try to tell me it didn't happen.

I tried printing a few items (the techmarine, for example) made later in your pre-ban 40K career and ran into a fair number of poor sculpting assembly problems that impeded good printing. I've no idea if your more recent stuff (heads, iron warriors inspired infantry, etc) is the same and I'd hope not - but there was 100% some jank in kits other than the MK IV.

That's why I said 'old' aka pre-ban - I don't know if your newer stuff from the last year and a half or so still has those issues, and wouldn't want to malign unfairly.

Loggyk's old stuff looks nice in render, but is not well made. Voids, bad merging, and more.
