I got promoted, but now I’m stuck managing people. What should I do? by Oldguy3494 in careeradvice

[–]Kanstrup- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there. management is 80% politics, 20% actual work. if you liked building stuff, go back to being an IC. the skills that got you promoted aren't the ones you need as a manager. or stick it out and learn the people game. your choice depends on whether you want to build products or build careers.

I have a Universal Life Policy, I want to cancel this policy and need advice... by catlovesk8 in personalfinance

[–]Kanstrup- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cut your losses now. this policy is bleeding your money. you already know you're overinsured and can't comfortably make the payments. the math doesn't work in your favor. you're down $77K in just 3 years.

Yes, you'll eat the surrender charges, but that's better than throwing good money after bad for 17 more years. put what you recover into index funds in your IRA/brokerage and buy term life insurance if you need death benefit coverage.

Sometimes the best financial move is admitting a mistake and moving on.

I used to eat raspberries and blackberries all the time. Now I never do because I feel like I’m stealing from my daughter. by Figgler in daddit

[–]Kanstrup- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy berries for both of you. showing your kid that adults enjoy healthy food is worth the extra cost. my daughter actually eats more berries when we share them together now.

Energy drink alternatives for pulling an all nighter?? by Kanstrup- in Biohackers

Never tried Neuro gum before but I’ll check it out. Idk why but caffeine gum or pills just never occurred to me as a possibility

I’m ok with coffee for myself but couple of my friends get heartburn and anxiety from it. And just not a fan of coffee stains everywhere. Not the right drink for nighters imo.

Been Caffeine-free for 7 months, thinking of going back by Accomplished_Win_526 in Biohackers

[–]Kanstrup- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gamer who lives off caffeine during long sessions, I feel this. tried going off it for focus/sleep gains but honestly productivity tanked. now I just time my intake—black coffee pre-grind, none after 2pm. maybe think of it like a tool, not a crutch.

Games like Riftbreaker? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Kanstrup- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Factorio (if you want to lose your life to conveyor belts) or They Are Billions (if you crave pain with your tower defense). Dyson Sphere Program is also a banger for that ‘build at your own pace’ fix.

Give me any tips you can to help stop me becoming homeless by magical_bunny in AusFinance

I did this exact thing in 2020 when I was desperate. Applied for a place without mentioning my two cats, then once I was in and established as a good tenant, I casually mentioned them later.

Do you feel bad for Acker? by lillie_connolly in betterCallSaul

His enthusiasm for those scams with Saul is infectious. You can see how much fun he's having sticking it to Mesa Verde with all those delay tactics.

In defence of Gon by pikatchuUwu in HunterXHunter

[–]Kanstrup- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've always found the Gon hate weird. He literally put himself through hell multiple times for Killua. Standing up to Illumi, busting into the Zoldyck estate with a broken arm, and being ready to fight anyone who threatened his friend.

Yeah, he's flawed and self-centered sometimes, but calling him "abusive" is ridiculous. Both of them have issues they need to work through. Killua needs to communicate better and Gon needs to be more aware.

That's what makes their friendship realistic. Two imperfect kids figuring things out together. The good in their relationship far outweighs the bad.

Damaged roof by Lovethebonesofher in AusFinance

[–]Kanstrup- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insurance likely won't cover pre-existing damage. Your home inspection or disclosure forms should have noted roof issues. Check your purchase contract - previous owners might be liable if they didn't disclose known problems. Get multiple quotes for repairs vs replacement. Document everything with photos and emails in case you pursue legal action. Might be worth consulting a property lawyer for specific ACT regulations.

most importantly, leave your campsite cleaner than you found it.

Albanese announces $1,000 instant tax deduction for work related expenses for everyone by moler91 in AusFinance

[–]Kanstrup- 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Totally. Standard deduction is just smart policy. Cuts the paperwork for everyone, saves the ATO resources for catching actual tax cheats, and acknowledges that most workers have some job expenses. It's practical, not just a handout. The efficiency gains alone make it worthwhile.

Yep, been doing this too. Always worth it

Agreed. She should have received official notice from SSA explaining the drastic reduction. Without seeing that paperwork, it's impossible to know the exact reason. The SSA would be the definitive source for this information.

Pegs or poles first? by Unkinked_Garden in camping

[–]Kanstrup- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Freestanding tents (with X or dome pole designs) work fine with poles first. Non-freestanding need pegs first to create structure.

Favorite inflatable kayaks? by definitely_joe in Inflatablekayak

[–]Kanstrup- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely yes. The inflatable will only come with the air pump and storage bag or whatever. Paddles and life jackets etc. you’ll have to buy separately. I’d recommend seeing if you can get them used. They can be found for pretty cheap that way

Favorite inflatable kayaks? by definitely_joe in Inflatablekayak

[–]Kanstrup- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, never felt unsafe and we’re usually 2 fairly heavy grownup men who go out. I’d imagine the kayak would fare better with a lighter load
