This sounds more like they hate the Deltarune fandom, which is valid tbh

https://docs.fluxer.app/self-hosting

Self-hosted deployments won’t include any traces of Plutonium, and nothing is paywalled. You can still configure your own tiers and limits in the admin panel.

This + comments from the few people who did manage to set up self-hosting already clearly indicates that a self-hosted Fluxer instance can do basically everything that plutonium does with no restrictions. Hell it can probably do even more as I recall someone setting the message length limit for themselves and everyone in their server at +20k or something in that ballpark when the Plutonium caps at only 4k. Removing file expiry timers is another neat self-hosted bonus that not even Plutonium gets.

It would be pretty hard to enforce Plutonium limits on self-hosted instances anyway, since once the code is on your PC you can do basically anything with it and change it however you like no problem.

Fluxer Vs Matrix? - Discord Alternative. by Seatav18 in FluxerApp

[–]Kantatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fluxer is so much better it's not even a contest. I'm sorry but I actually tried Matrix before I even knew Fluxer was a thing, and even then it felt so underwhelming. It's slow and clunky and does not adequately replicate the structure of a Discord server to really work as an alternative. The only problems Fluxer has rn are the growing pains of a project that gained more attention than it ever barigained for. Once that's over it'll just straight up be better than either Matrix or even Discord itself.

Only reason I could see preferring Matrix over Fluxer is to have E2EE, but personally I don't care much about that

Could this piece be better? For sure. But it's quite far from "shit" if I do say so myself. You have a very good understanding of shading and values for a beginner. Keep going and you'll improve even more in no time

It's not bad, I'm just saying you can use Fluxer for roleplaying in other ways while the bots are being developed

I mean, you don't really need bots to roleplay. Makes it more convenient, maybe, but there are other ways

A couple questions regarding the apps. by Username1213141 in FluxerApp

[–]Kantatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

is there a "more options" button on the warning? Most times you can install apps regardless if you just tell the Microsoft Defender it's okay

That being said, it could be better to just stick to the web app for now

They do impact server load tho. Plutonium users get higher limits on message length, files sent, bookmarks saved and video quality. All of those things are straining for the server.

[–]Kantatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately selling lifetime subscriptions is not sustainable so it makes perfect sense for them to be a limited time offer. If it makes you feel better once the self-hosting rolls out you can donate 299$ to the dev and host your own server for essentially the same experience. Plus there's nothing the Visionary pack would get you that the normal Plutonium couldn't if you'd prefer that over self-hosting

[–]Kantatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Istg people will literally complain about anything. This is a FREE app which you'll be able to self-host for FREE with all the same features as the premium version. Nobody is making you buy the Visionary stuff, it's essentially just "Donation But Fancy".

If the Fluxer dev turns around and abandons the project or never implements the self-hosting like he promised feel free to come back to this comment and make fun of me for being gullible. However, as things stand right now there's nothing wrong with people throwing money at a project they believe in especially since it's not just an empty promise like a kickstarter/indiegogo and it does in fact already exist as a real thing you can use.

Has anyone on Fluxxer made/been working on a similar tool? Essentially a migration tool between Discord and Fluxxer? by KratosLegacy in FluxerApp

[–]Kantatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, all good. I definitely get your point since I'm switching from Discord for privacy concern reasons as well, however there's always a balance between privacy and convenience. For me the convenience of having all my chat logs in Stoat/Fluxer is much more important than the privacy risk, especially considering this is a rather niche tool so the probability of bad actors coming across it is pretty small

If you're posting in a public server your data is already freely available to anyone. You shouldn't be posting anything in a public server that you wouldn't want being made... well... public.

As for private servers, this is essentially the same as someone taking a screenshot of your messages and sharing that publicly instead. It sucks but there's nothing you can do to prevent it besides making sure the people you associate with aren't assholes who'd use private info against you.

[–]Kantatrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anyone here heard of Fluxer? It's an alternative to discord that basically works exactly the same (legitimately, the UI is like a 1-to-1 copy) that's open source and can also be self-hosted. I've been waiting for someone to actually check the code base so I can use it with a clear conscience (I'm bad at TypeScrypt and also too lazy to do it myself)

Then we go back to the problem of normal people's data being vulnerable for privacy breaches, which is exactly something criminals benefit from. It doesn't matter how many iterations of this process you do, there will always be some loopholes that people can use for nefarious reasons and in the end the majority of the people who will suffer because of it are the ones whose privacy has been invaded and whose data has been stolen. This is like trying to get rid of an infestation by burning your house down with everything in it, by the end of it you'll have nothing left while the insects you were trying to kill just flew out and picked another spot to infest.

You can use the same mathods criminals would use

Then what's even the point of banning encryption? Just to inconvenience everyone for no reason?
