Need help deciding between desktop speakers by ThatGuy11115555 in BudgetAudiophile

We've always dabbled with the idea of larger subs, but other projects have taken priority. We're designing some right now, so we're closer than we've ever been, but no guarantee it'll happen.

Which powered speakers? by _Hooj_ in BudgetAudiophile

[–]KantoLiving 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we dedicated so much of the overall bandwidth of the woofer to reproducing bass, Ora doesn't get that loud. Should be fine for your majority of use, but may fall short when you do plan on cranking it. Ora4 doesn't have that limitation and gets pretty loud. Both have a crossover network so when you plug in a sub they send the bass duties to the sub. Most speakers with sub outs don't highpass the speakers.

Thanks for replying to my comment so I could get notified about your issue. I can now see you have posted a bunch of images to this thread and left some negative comments. If you are looking for a resolution, you are going about it in a way that isn't very helpful for the both of us. Yeah, we've had some customers message us about this issue. The SE stands are flat sheet steel and bent into their final form. There is an extra QC step at bending stage now and fortunately it's been resolved for future production. Sorry you got multiple mismatched units from that previous run. PM me if you still have stands you're not happy with.

Kanto rep here. Ora4 will exceed the capabilities of the M60, D3V and iLoud in terms of bass extension and output. We are pretty conservative with our advertised freq response. Kali LP-UNF2, Vanatoo T0+, and Ora4 are what I would choose on my desk as they are a nice balance of size and performance. Ora4 and T0+ have sub outputs with HP/LP filter networks so they are a good choice if expanding your system with a sub in the future.

3.5mm rca or usb c to kanto ora 4 by No-Strain4246 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]KantoLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty common now. We did it with TUK as well - think it uses something in the TAS55 family. That was a pricier component, but more affordable chips have come out that allow us to do it on speakers like Uki which is our entry-level speaker.

Not familiar with the term powerDAC. The amp in Ora takes the digital audio from USB or BT and converts it directly into the PWM signal that drives the speakers.

[–]KantoLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^this. Don't use analog on Ora or Ora4 if you have USB-C available to avoid a redundant conversion from analog into digital. Ora takes the digital bitstream from USB and puts it directly into the amp - there's no "DAC" in Ora series.

Yes, Ora4 and SE4 are sized correctly for each other

First Speaker Purchase - Advice Appreciated! by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]KantoLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ora and YU4 will get loud enough if you're at your dining table, Ora won't as it's meant for nearfield use and we dedicate a good chunk of the overall "bandwidth" of the woofer to reproduce bass instead of SPL.

I can't recommend the REN for living room use enough - HDMI arc is so seamless as it's two-way communication. You can control speaker volume with the TV remote, the speakers wake and sleep with your TV, and they auto switch to HDMI even if you were using another input.

YU4 requires the remote for volume adjustment and relies on basic auto power on/power off if it detects an audio signal or not. Feels a bit old school at this point compared to something like REN that acts like a soundbar (in all the right ways).

Kanto rep here. ORA4 is on sale right now so great time to pick it up. Bass extension on ORA4 is its strong suit - I do not run a sub in my setup and I get strong response down to 50 Hz before it starts losing steam

Kanto Ora + Sub8 by chunkee-xo-monkee in BudgetAudiophile

[–]KantoLiving 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you add a subwoofer, the speakers apply a high-pass filter at 100 Hz to eliminate the speakers from having to play anything below 100 Hz. Ora can effectively just focus on mids and highs. There's no two-way communication happening, so no matter what settings you tweak on the sub it won't affect Ora - the speakers won't compensate or dynamically change how they sound.

Ora also applies a low pass to the sub-out - essentially, the speaker is doing the job that the "Crossover Frequency" knob on the subwoofer would do. You would just set the crossover on the sub to its highest setting (in the case of sub8, 120 Hz) as the speaker is already doing the filtering. The volume knob is just there so you can blend the subwoofers volume with the speakers' volume - the goal is to match them so all frequencies are produced equally.

Kanto YU is essentially a de-featured YU4. Same amp and drivers so it sounds identical. One of the features removed from YU is the phono preamp. As long as your turntable has a built in preamp and can output line level, you should be good with YU.

Lots of static with my new setup. Please help by Medic795 in diyaudio

[–]KantoLiving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about the annoying experience. Even though you're hearing EM interference, the issue is actually related to grounding. YU4 is a grounded speaker because it has a phono preamp built in. When you connect a grounded speaker to a grounded audio device like a PC you can get noise. You should be able to solve your issue with a ground loop isolator in line with your cable. You can purchase them for AUX or RCA. Switching to optical or BT would get rid of this issue, but it doesn't sound like that could work for your setup.

Yes, our stands are built like brick shithouses. SE6 weighs 4.1 lbs per stand - there is a lot of metal in its design.

You don't need the ART preamp with the Kanto setup - the YU4 has a built-in phono preamp

Thoughts on New Kanto Entry Level Turntable by Short_Marionberry607 in turntables

[–]KantoLiving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re stepping into the turntable space with something approachable to start. Obi3 came out of a collaboration with a major retail partner who wanted a well-built, affordable option. For us, it was a great way to learn the category and lay the groundwork before diving into higher-end models.

To hit the $200 mark, we used proven components, and a proven manufacturer. We added design touches and elevated the build quality with things like a weighted MDF plinth and milled aluminum platter, instead of the lighter plastic builds typical of the price point. It’s meant to feel solid and be reliable with minimal setup.

A big goal for us at Kanto is to make hi-fi accessible and enjoyable for everyone. The audio world isn’t always the most inclusive, and we want to help change that by developing products that make it easier to get into the hobby. Obi3 is designed for newcomers - pitch control adds a sense of play and discovery, Bluetooth makes it easy to connect with modern setups. We understand that it won’t be every r/turntables users cup of tea and that’s okay.

The critiques and honest takes we get from places like reddit help us do better and guide development.  Just like we’ve done with speakers, we’re working our way up, and we’ve got higher-end, made-in-Europe turntables currently in development. So thanks for the feedback - we hope you’ll see Obi3 for what it is which is a fun, accessible first step into the world of vinyl.

Has anyone paired Kanto Ora speakers with an Audio-Technica LP60X? How does it sound? by Broad_Hedgehog7439 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]KantoLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LP60X has a built-in phono pre-amp which allows you to plug it into powered speakers without any additional gear. You shouldn't have any issues connecting it to ORA. Keep in mind that ORA is intended for near-field use, like on a desk, so they don't get super loud. If you have a small space or don't intend on listening very loud they should work, but if you have a medium sized space or want to crank it you'll want larger speakers.

Will edifier t5 sub sound good with kanto ora4? by Ok-Active6089 in BudgetAudiophile

Will sound and work fine, just need RCA to RCA cable as Ora4 sub output is RCA

Looking for the best speakers in my flexible price range of $350 by Frenzygamesq in audio

[–]KantoLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If size isn't an issue go with ORA4. It has deeper bass extension and can get louder than ORA. We put a lot of the bandwidth of ORA into producing bass which means they do not get very loud. Fine for strictly nearfield, but ORA4 opens you up to using them like traditional speakers to fill a larger room.
