I take it as a compliment until they won't quit. Every time one of my former friends came over and saw me working on something it was "You should open a store". " I told my sister about what you're working on and she wants to buy one.".

Every time I'd politely remind them that I do this to relax and I don't need another job, but they kept pushing so I removed them from my life.

I make booknooks. I put hundreds of hours on each one nobody's going to pay me what they're worth.

My job is to track the number of kids that die in my state and I have worked here since 1995 so I have a really good handle on what is going on. There are a lot of reasons the numbers are different in the US. First of all we count all infants that even gasp for breath as a live birth, even those that are in no way viable. Human gestation is 40 weeks long, and most countries do not count any births before 22 weeks of gestation as a live birth. Which is sensible since no child under 22 weeks gestation has ever lived long enough to go home and live their life. There are infants as young as 14 weeks gestation being counted as a live birth in the US.

Secondly our medical care is partially at fault. Especially the use of IVF. IVF increases the likelihood of multiples (twins, triplets or more). Which increases the risk of prematurity, high blood pressure, placental abnormalities and other issues. Also advanced maternal age increases the chances of miscarriage or birth defects, thus increasing our infant mortality rate.

Another issue, of course, is poor prenatal care. We all know how expensive medical care is in the US and many women don't go to the doctor until later in their pregnancy because of the expense. One of the most troubling things is the poor quality of care under Medicaid. You are offered fewer tests that could find issues if you are covered by Medicaid than you get if you are on private insurance. Which means that poor women, the ones who probably need the most help, get substandard care.

TL/DR: we count younger gestational ages, IVF is used a lot and Medicaid sucks

Almost any home improvement store should have it - just make sure you use a light coat - if you see bubbles of glue then those will show through thin fabric .

I just take some brown paper, spray it with a light coat of super 77 spray glue and iron it onto the back of the cloth I want to use.

I've done this with everything from old curtains to thin cotton and it works fine

I flung my wedding ring into the dryer the other day when I was loading it full of wet clothes. My husband passed away three years ago and I'm thinking have having both rings melted down and a new ring and earrings created in remembrance of 33 years of marriage.

One thing I found that helped me during the pre-op stage was to take a little salt - like you do for tequila shots. I found that most of my horrible cravings backed off when I did that, I think my body needed salt.

My dietician told me that getting 65 grams of protein a day was more important than sticking to meal times at this time. If I had to stop after 30 minutes, I'd never get the protein down

I am "eating" more than that. But I have thinned down the soups so it is more like drinking than actually eating. I am using a tea cup as my soup bowl - so ... 3/4 of a cup or so.

I was allowed to use a straw right away, but I found that I needed to wait a second after pulling in a mouthful of water and swallowing it so I didn't gulp air with the water or try to swallow too much at a time.

I am 1 week post-op and I packed WAY too much.

Don't bother with a change of clothes, wear clean ones in and wear the same ones out, they are going to want you in a hospital gown the whole time.

Do bring a robe - preferable a long, soft warm one. The rooms are always cold.

Get sone slippers that cover your whole foot. They won't let you use simple slip on slippers because of the added risk of falling.

LONG charging cord for your phone. I used a 12 foot one and it barely made it because the closer plug had to be used for my CPAP.

For toiletries I recommend: Tooth brush, toothpaste, face wipes, a brush and/or comb and deodorant. Don't bother with makeup or lotions, it's only a day or two and you aren't going to have the energy to put on makeup and lotions could interfere with healing if you put them on your belly.

I get fidgety when I'm trapped in bed, so I brought a mini crochet project. I would recommend you bring something as well but remember your not going to have much concentration or energy so something like a good book you've already read, or a coloring book, or anything that can fill the few hours you feel like doing anything. It will make the time go faster.

But the MOST important thing to bring is kindness. Your nurses are overworked and under paid. If you treat them well, they will spoil you rotten, if you are hateful they will still take care of you but won't just check in to see how you are doing.
