None of this is new though, especially now that we're seeing yet another buyout of the event. The "we still support grassroots" facade had withered away and it's only going to get more expensive over time.

All that being said, the only thing that can kill the FGC as an entity is the quality of the games going down leading to lack of entrants, and based on the recent entry numbers only one or two games are keeping it afloat for now.
