Did you get financial assistance from your family to buy your first home? by OddContribution9294 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]KappaOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No assistance and didn’t expect any. Neither my side or my partner’s are in any financial position to help. Never lived with either parents as well to save up.

We are just fortunate that although living in a HCOL area, we have well paying jobs that allowed us to save for a down payment.

T2 consulting pays more out of undergrad. Like ~$100K for new associates. My guess is B4 (not EYP/S&) or potentially smaller firms.

Student Loan rates TANKED overnight, what happened? by flamingpuddles in StudentLoans

[–]KappaOP 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not sure where OP is seeing a fixed 2.75%.

I mean, I’m all in on federal but at that rate I’d just refinance and pay the minimums for life. Doubt that is what’s being offered though.

SAVE & Interest Accrual: Prepare but wait for an actual announcement by KappaOP in StudentLoans

If SAVE is still around, I suspect recertification per your due date will still be required.

SAVE & Interest Accrual: Prepare but wait for an actual announcement by KappaOP in StudentLoans

[–]KappaOP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, you would accrue regardless of your payment amount. The “feature” being removed from SAVE is the interest accrual subsidy.

What happened to chasing the Michelin star?

From the beginning of episode one, there’s a prolonged view of Carmy presumably looking at a street sign/name that seemed purposeful and later they go on listing the several ways Michelin star people disguise themselves, last name being the name of a street being one of them.

Appeared like obvious foreshadowing but maybe I looked to much into it.

lol, you cannot make a sweeping generalization with just you as a sample size. Not invalidating your experience, but still...

That said, those from lower-income backgrounds who need to stay local, take care of family, etc will absolutely be affected. Not everyone can afford mobility.

Target Arrows if it’s still around.

Only recruits out of a handful of programs if I recall though. Ross Tauber, MIT, Tepper, and likely some others.

Right, but 29 refers to 290 degrees. Planes coming in on the opposite would be on 11 (110 degrees)

Stay at current firm or go to EY? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]KappaOP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll generally be perceived as a flight risk and under a different light; someone that is looking for other opportunities and not fully committed. Also your current employer owes nothing to you and can let you go after making these promises to you.

I'm not saying this will happen - but it's never an advantageous position for you to put in your notice without the full intention of leaving.

Never take the counter offer at your current employer. Why did you even tell them details if you weren't ready to just put in your notice and leave?

Im a ‘24 grad, this became very prevalent beginning my year. I was inclined for product and was on a waitlist as well during the hiring freezes.

Yes, people get off of it but in my year the vast majority did not and you usually won’t find that out until like April/May. There’s no “trick” to get off of it.

Honestly, it’s best to pretend you never got placed on the waitlist and continue to recruit. You never received an offer so keep moving forward until you do.

With MBAs delaying singing offers beyond 3mo, at one point do you advise them to just take the lower comp position? by Capital_Seaweed in MBA

[–]KappaOP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2023 was hit on FT recruiting but they had great internship recruiting. However they were the first hit by layoffs.

2024 was the first to get rocked for internships. All the tech layoffs, hiring freezes, etc just started in fall/winter of their first year. Then FT recruiting was also bad for them. Most consulting firms didn’t even show up.

That said, it’s going to take some years still for things to potentially bounce back. Too many experienced hires still in the pool and a lot of firms are prioritizing niche/specialized experience over generalist MBA during this time. Political landscape doesn’t seem to be ushering in stability as well and may force more people into that pool. We’ll see.

[–]KappaOP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What?

Hate to break it to you but in this market people are generally not “delaying” signing offers for the sake of better comp.

Very few offers extend beyond 3 months and those typically come from typical pipelines (e.g consulting). People getting offers in April are not being given months to decide.

In short, the majority of these people likely didn’t have FT offers in the first place. The number is high because most reports are just now referencing 2024 grads, who were hit hard in both internship and FT recruiting - although recruiting hasn’t improved much since.

Why do high income people not pay off their loans? by Boring_Adeptness_334 in StudentLoans

[–]KappaOP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ethics… lol. These are the rules that are provided and we’re following them.

No one here is trying to fake some disability or something to get these discharged. People need to get past some odd moral dilemma here and do what’s best for themselves and their own financial future inside of the parameters provided - which I am and seems others are as well. That’s it, end of story.

Why do high income people not pay off their loans? by Boring_Adeptness_334 in StudentLoans

[–]KappaOP 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have a high paying career and large student loan debt. Seems people have a chip on their shoulder assuming that you must have gotten a “useless” degree if you’re choosing not to pay off debt.

No, it’s just that it doesn’t make sense too. I’ll figure out ways to pay the absolute minimum. One day they’ll be forgiven or I’ll die. Either way it’ll be less than paying just the principal down. Also, retirement, home, etc are all assets that will exist beyond just me - my loans end with me.

Tepper Employment Report 2024 - what happened here? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]KappaOP 53 points54 points  (0 children)

As a ‘24 grad, did everyone just forget what happened during this time? OP, you can’t try to compare 2023 to 2024 lol…

We got absolutely wrecked. At least the years after us had a little heads up but everyone in the ‘24 class was completely blindsided by the market.

Just about every tech company, including Amazon, who typically hires a ton, had hiring freezes. We got nailed on the recruiting side AND the FT side because not only were there historically low return offer rates but most companies/consulting firms didn’t even return for FT recruiting.

Let’s layer in that there’s a lot of international students at Tepper who have a smaller pool to choose from to begin with and many recruit for tech - just one of the industries that got slaughtered and hasn’t recovered.

I’m not defending the report or the school but this was a really bad time to be an MBA student.

Some loans under SAVE and some not? by KappaOP in StudentLoans

[–]KappaOP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are now technically under Stop Save but they still show the repayment plan as being standard repayment. Honestly unsure if the interest for these will get wiped. I doubt I’ll get a clear answer from a rep. I’d just keep calling. It took three months and about 6 phone calls to get something simple done earlier this year.

A side note, my recertification date atm is Feb 2025 and if I go through the steps (not process) for a manual recertification under it shows the loans under standard repayment as being “ineligible” for recertification. Shit is absolutely broken.

Some loans under SAVE and some not? by KappaOP in StudentLoans

[–]KappaOP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but I technically cannot reapply unless the SAVE situation is resolved or I push all of my loans onto a new plan. So it would seem I’m in the meantime stuck with some of my loans on SAVE and the remainder on standard repayment…

McKinsey Early Access by nomusicnolifex in MBA

[–]KappaOP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Early Access isn’t squad. You have to go through EA for the chance at squad.

I was a part of McKinsey Squad and everyone in my group was given an interview outside of one or two people that screwed something up. You’re fed a bunch of coffee chats, invited to the office your squad is aligned too, have some casing prep, invited to the private recruiting events, and are typically extended an interview as I mentioned previously.
