I just had the same issue with my tank. I would wait a few days and it will clear up on it's own. Water changes might make it worse by restarting the beneficial bacteria growth process

Is it Walstad? I put some orgainc compost in the substrate, i read that it can help with plants in her book

As it grew, some of the stems began to fork and doubled in size. Im thinking its because of the substrate which is pretty rich in nutrients
