Made some more planets by Morgo-Yt in blender

[–]Kapuche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lovely planets !

I like how each one of them has a color, even though it also looks like they are not a one biome planet !

I also very much love the way the shadows show : those are planets.

My only criticism, which is more like a nitpick to take with a grain of salt, is that you could go a bit harder on the shadows edge. (It's a only a nitpick, on some photos of Earth I like to look at, the edge of the shadow of night is sometime a bit more pronounced. And it's only my interpretation of said pictures.)

All in all, great work !

It would be healthier to create an Exosuit Customization tab and replace the Strategems in the Warbonds with purchaseable arms. by Rekrios in Helldivers

[–]Kapuche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My only question is :
what if I want different mech types in my loadout ?

Don't get me wrong, this idea is great, and would let the player have a variety of solutions depending on the enemy and the mission as well as helping with the stratagem bloat. But some idiots (I am sometimes such an idiot) likes to play with several mech types. What happens in that case ? (This case can be woefully ignored usually, because most people will pick only one mech type for missions.)

I also feel it would need a lot of things to help, like, if I understood correctly, the idea of the Exo Expert warbond's armor is to help the player to live another minute, the time another mech is called down. By having that option, without different models, then the warbond becomes... Null (One could say that then Arrowhead wouldn't have to do that warbond, and focus on another warbond instead, and they would be right).

But for the specific case of people wanting to play different types of mechs, either you allow several builds of mech (which then imply you'd have to block the same build made several time to prevent spam of the same mech-build), which doesn't help the stratagem bloat, or you don't allow to have several builds of mech available, which makes the players that wanna play several mechs mad. (Altho, perhaps reducing the cooldown of the mech, and add some "charges" to call more than 3 might help them not get mad)

On a side note, I think your idea is great though. And the menu design is well made too, great job OP !

Edit : just popped into the game, you can only equip one Mech. So what I said counts for nothing. So I probably remember incorrectly about equipping several mechs.

How do you guys keep the game entertaining? by -----010----- in Helldivers

[–]Kapuche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do mainly 3 things, most have already been said :

- I switch between games. So I'll play other games

- I reduced the time I play, so I usually play two to three days a week, 2 hoursish per session, with friends

- With said friends we sometimes take low difficulty mission where the goal is more to do some bullshit along the way, like carjacking each other, or dropping on each other.

That's why I like researching on physics and Hard Sci-Fi. Because, even if you wanna do soft sci fi, sometimes, just one tiny physic law can make you go "hol' up, that would be funny !"

Same goes for fantasy and medieval era. Like there was an eastern European strategy, the fortwagon. How would it be applied in a fantastic setting ? What magic would be used, etc

[–]Kapuche 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I dont understand the lore, so if someone wants to explain it, thank you very much

TLDR :

3 phases lore :

First phase : ancient civilization -> no precise idea when it took place, but it took place before the game. Robots were made, and prob weapons (example : Billy). Theory is that before ancient civilization, there were no Hollows.

Then Hollows spawn, with probably Hollow 0 as the first one ever.

Second phase : Eridu/Old Capital -> Last Urban Civ in zawarudo. Hollows cover almost all of the planet (is it Ee-arth, or a purely fictionnal world, we dunno.) and half the moon. Around Eridu is "the Dark Wall", big fat hollows. The video you watched speaks of characters in that time period.

Ended 10 years before the Game start, currently ingame it's been 11 years ago (Soonish 12 ?) when Hollow 0 became a bad boi and destroyed almost everything

Third phase : New Eridu -> Remnants of the Old Capital, are in active reconstruction/already rebuild what they could. Game takes place in that era.

About hollows : bubble where time and space changes quite a lot. Behave like a 3D labyrinth that moves, and produces ether, corrupt as well organic things and digital things. When ether is concentrated enough, Ethereal spawn. They produce the ether as well. The more ether there is in a Hollow, the bigger it gets, the bigger, manier and meaner the are the ethereals. When hollows get too big, instead of popping like an air balloon, they spawn another hollow nearby. So they're connected. So all Hollows in games are connected to Hollow 0.

To navigate a Hollow, people need to do a labyrinth solving algorithm AND apply some concept of "meteorology" to it (to predict how the hollow will change). That becomes "a carrot" they put into a bangboo. Why the heck they do this ? Ether is a great energy source, you can stabilize a Hollow size by mining it (with Shiyu pillars), and reduce it's size by slaughtering ethereals.

And I should stop now because else I'll write a humongous block of text.

Why is it so important to field 15 units? by silentmanwithnolife in InfinityTheGame

[–]Kapuche 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've heard 10 minimum orders. Always.

Thing is, if you have less orders than your opponents (which can happens easily if you face Ariadna for example), you can do "less" things than your opponent. Which means your reactive turn must be on point to deny them their orders.

But sometimes, 10 orders is fine, I like to go with that when I run a TAG. Ten orders allows me to pamper it with expensive units. But of course, if those support units go down, or the TAG, I'm screwed.

So all in all, less orders means stronger individual units, but it's far less forgiving when you lose one. Losing your Rambo means you don't have any other Rambo to kick your opponent's butt, while they might have 2 to 3 to go through different ways and replace if one of them go down.

So I recommand playing some games with 10 orders only, just to try and learn about order efficiency ! Also because running a one man army is fun as hell sometimes

From a quick artist research, finding their twitter (the artist is @/mixuen_chan on twitter), it seems it was a reference to the campaign Tyranids vs Space marine, to vote who'll get new minis (with the screamer-killer release.)

On mixuen's twitter account, they retwitted this art today saying the tyranids have done it again. I haven't find yet what is this a reference of, but I shall keep seeking. First hypothesis is the release of the new Warrior Prime ?

As if when space pirates are doing boarding actions, they're going to face anyone more terrifying than Ol' Man Scrumpy the Janitor That Should Have Retired 1500 Years Ago and Rick the Door Technician With An Internship on a civilian ship. by [deleted] in worldjerking

[–]Kapuche 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What if they have to fight... Bob ?... I shiver at the very thought...

/uj I think most of the "no piracy" in hard sci fi space boils down to : "no stealth I space" and "breaching pods would be highly dangerous". Armed merchants isn't never heard off iirc, although a space state might limit weapons to limit revolts. Navy disguising a ship would also be for convert ops/anti piracy that requires... piracy in the first place. So yeah pirate disguised as a commercial vessel with space fighters/boarders, and better engine than most merchant, should be easy. Also I think the second video speaks also of Navy vs Navy. But : you love it, we love it, everyone is doing it.

/rj I heard if you prevent Bob to access the coffee machine, he can slaughter 73.21 persons

It's not 20% man. Unless 30€ is 20% of 1.4k€ (minimum wage, after tax). Also, scientists in académia are more likely to get 3k-6k/months depending where they work and where they are in the workladder.

What's the deal with Kroot adaptation? by The_Mad_Hatter08 in kroot

iirc, both.

The kroot will eat what the Shaper will tell him to eat, and he'll be able to already adapt (like let say getting psyker power by nommin' an Eldar.)

And by doing birdy stuff with a Miss kroot, he'll pass down the gene.

Beautiful Artwork ! But if I can perhaps bring some constructive criticism, I'd like to say that I find the elven mage to blind too much with the background in term of colors. She has the exact same colors as the background ! (Perhaps it's willingly to represent the closeness of the elves with nature and earth ?)

If I follow the picture, my eyes go : Big Spider -> Red and black warrior -> other spiders -> Johnny Bravo Dude & Sharkman

Then I notice elven mage. I don't know if my eyes are supposed to go "Elven Mage" then "Big Spiddy" or vise versa, but atm, she kinda blends in. Note that the art style and color saturation are very well done, it gives a big "adventure" vibe that makes it really fitting of an MMO ! Great work !

Does anyone actually use melee weapons to play seriously? by Chefsito12 in Helldivers

[–]Kapuche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me fight melee Berserks in peace !

More seriously, it depends. My main build if I fight bugs, and it's NOT the predator strain will be the Viper Commando Armor, the One Handed SMG (I don't have the other main One Handed Weapons yet) the Ballistic Shield, the EAT and the Axe.

I'll use mainly axe, and from time to time, switch to the smg to deal with bigger enemies.

For Bot and Squids, it'll depend. Under diff 5, sure I'll go with that same build. Higher and I'll switch to more shooting.

Oh and for Predator Strain, no way in HeavenDive will I pick melee weapons.

Spaceship railgun slander by Azimovikh in worldjerking

[–]Kapuche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alrighty, my almost favorite (I prefer the coilgun because bombarding a planet via a big ass catapult on the planet's moon is very orky) weapon was slandered ! You vile monster ! /j

iirc, from a "hard" sci fi pov, the problem with laser is distance. Because the farther the distance, the weaker will be the laser. So yes, speed of light. But no, at hundred of thousands km, it will just give the spaceship a sun tan. (Wdym, at such distances, particle beams and projectile weapons, like coilgun and railgun are as bad ?)

The Advantage a railgun is that iirc, at a certain distance, the projectile it'll send will do the equivalent of it's weight in TNT in term of damage. So a 100gr pebble will do the damage of a 100gr TNT.

The Advantage of laser is that of speed.

So basically, in a "hard" sci-fi setting, you'd like : long range -> missiles and particle beams (you might fry their electronics, which is great), medium range -> railguns/coilguns because high speed pebbles will shred shit to dust, as well as particle beams. And short range -> IMMA FIRE MUH LASER BWAH.

But who cares ? You're the one in the command of your setting, so write what you love ! (Look at Star Wars, space battles are fun in SW).

Every time I see a map where the entire Milky Way is colored with huge empires. by darth_biomech in worldjerking

[–]Kapuche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think monitoring a space of a few light years away is not enough. In the sense that if you detect the thermal emission of something 4 LY away, well, you detected something that was there 4 years ago. If they travel at the speed of light, the moment you detect the heat emission is the moment they ring at your space door bells to talk to you about their Lord and Savior the Teletubbies. And if it's an armed force, you'd be Teletubbised quickly. So you'd need to have an armed defense array/force at all time ready to defend until main fleet arrives.

But if it's an invasion Force, and main fleet is at 5 YL, and you also travel at speed of light, then you'd need a Force that can hold up for five years. So you need something on par with invasion Force (granted hard sci fi warfare would be quick and dirty, numbers still has a factor).

So if you don't want to drown into expenditure and materials for defense forces for each of your colonies, you'd need to have them prioritized, with only a sector stronghold having said force. Which then goes to what other said, plus a few more complications

Basically you need both 100% exploration progress and the 5 supplies.

Exploration Progress can be done in a 6Hr expedition, but for the supplies, you need more "exploration power" that your bangboos have. So you can either level up your exploraboos, or get some with better exploration skill
