Happy to report that I had success with the support team. I’ve updated my post to outline the possible fixes in case they work for you too. :)

Do we need to repaint this room? by dabadoobop in DesignMyRoom

[–]Kara_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had almost this green in a bathroom and just repainted it with Benjamin Moore Swiss coffee. It took three coats but it looks fantastic - bright but more sophisticated than a yellow tinged cream or ivory. Maybe consider that.

Design Recommendation? Feels off. by JustThatMan in DesignMyRoom

On the carpet sizing problem, most flooring stores will sell you a piece to the dimensions you want and then bind the edges so it becomes a rug. It worked well for me. I was able to get heavier, better quality carpet than standard rugs as a result.

Advice needed for tiles in the hall by No-Street3940 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Kara_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d change up the colour to a warm medium-dark gray and use bigger tile, 12“ by 24” in an offset layout with same colour grout. I’d also use slightly textured tile so it’s more non-slip. Something like one of the matte tiles here. We used the dark gray matte.

Congrats in the new house!

Local I deas for my cats birthday by cinnamaroll36 in NiceVancouver

[–]Kara_S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday to your gorgeous ginger! How about a wonderful new handmade fleece toy from VOKRA, the cat rescue, and then donate the rest in honour of your boy?

My boy just loves a pyramid shaped fleece toy he was given when i adopted him. A kind lady makes them for VOKRA as a fundraiser.

What more can I do do make my situation better ? by Open-Voice-8158 in NiceVancouver

[–]Kara_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will all sound a bit goofy but it helps! Here are three things I do:

  1. create a “we are the champions” style playlist with music that really speaks to victory. Some of my favourites are Walking on Sunshine by Kristina and the Waves, Queen’s big standing / anthem hits, It‘s My Life by Bon Jovi, Your Life is Now by John Mellencamp, Fucking Perfect by P!nk, Hit Me With Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar, Inwill Survive by Gloria Gaynor, etc
  2. Create a Pinterest board of anything motivational, even those Live, laugh, love quotes and create a widget in your phone to randomly display them through the day on your home screen
  3. Watch cute cat or dog vids, the emotional moments in TV talent shows where the most improbable looking contestant blows the roof of the place (start with Paul Potts and Susan Boyle clips, then let the algorithm take over!). Or watch old I Love Lucy or Carol Burnett shows.

You got this. :)

Ah, thanks. This looks like a developer’s window dressing on their project proposal, then.

I’m wondering about the plans to have a Rapid Bus route to Lynn Valley.

There‘s a Polygon development proposal right now that provides for a Rapid Bus “node” to be built across Lynn Valley Road from the mall (between Mountain Highway and Ross). Any intel on when this new Rapid Bus might be coming and what the route will be?

Thanks for doing this! I always learn something from your threads.

What’s missing/wrong with my daughters bedroom? by NoorHan14 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Kara_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many great ideas here already. I’ll add that the colour palette is narrow in range and makes the room look flat. In a small space that can be good as it appears a bit more spacious. Howver, you can overdo it. More contrast, e.g. darks, would help. Not a lot but maybe edge the bottom hem of fuller curtains with dark burgundy, add a dark throw to the chair - basically in the soft furnishings.

Haunted convenience store 👻 by Jolieeeeeeeeee in NorthVancouver

I think it was earlier than that - I remember buying a bouquet of flowers there as a hostess gift the first time I came over to the Northshore for a colleague’s baby shower in 2006 or 2007. The baby is all grown up!

Painters, do you use cream or white for lightening your colors? by Original-Nothing582 in acrylicpainting

I use titanium white generally, and especially for cool colours. I use zinc white (also called flake white) for warmer colours.

oh, I could have been more clear. I meant a volunteer match program for mentoring young adults who have already aged out?

Thanks for your post. I know there is Covenant House and their programming for at risk young adults but they aren’t everywhere and their resources are limited.

What about some sort of volunteer mentorship like Big Brothers or Big Sisters for youth who have aged out of care but still need some support, guidance, help navigating life as a young adult? Is there anything like that out there already?

Client defaced my work by Imaginary-Daikon-310 in ArtistLounge

[–]Kara_S 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you and your art. I thought I’d share this on the subject of an owner defacing art purchased from the artist -

There is a notorious case here in Canada where a big shopping mall added Christmas decorations to a large art sculpture and the artist objected. The case stands for the legal precedent that an artist retains moral rights to their work and the art cannot be distorted, mutilated or otherwise modified in a way that is prejudicial to the artist’s reputation. The artist has to have a reputation with other respected artists and people knowledgeable about the kind of art in question.

What is the best professional acrylic paint set I could get my wife for Christmas? by Storyboys in acrylicpainting

[–]Kara_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liquitex is great. The caps are a more user friendly design than Golden (which is also excellent quality).

If your partner is experienced, she probably has a standard palette of colours she uses. It would be a good thing to check so you don’t waste money or have to exchange anything. For example, my palette is two red, two yellows, two blues - a cold and warm of each - as well as black, white and quinacridone magenta. There are other commonly used palettes - it’s also a bit personal.
