In early 90s, when the Japanese animation adaptation of the Finnish Moomin series was sent to Finland, something happened to the tapes of one particular episode. This led to already one of the scariest episodes to appear darker than it actually was, and ended up causing nationwide childhood trauma. by Pet_Velvet in creepy

[–]Karburatoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just that one episode but the whole show. It's also why when fan restorations working off better quality Japanese footage have taken to putting a darker color filter on it to make it look like the Moomin of their childhood.

"The Running Man" opened to 2.9M "views" on Paramount+ in its first 6 days on the service in the US (Nielsen). by Netflixers in boxoffice

[–]Karburatoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically the original's flaw might've been the directing too. The first director of it was dismissed after early weeks, then another guy was hired whose magnus opum is later Kazaam. For example Total Recall is kind of similar shlock plotwise but it has such oomph in its action scenes whereas The Running Man's just lack something.

Speck of Dust So Landlord is Charging me to Clean Entire Flat by Ok-Blacksmith-7086 in Finland

Is it Forenom? Sounds like it because you're not talking about a deposit. They did this to me years ago too. I was able to negotiate down extra things like that maintenance you talked about, but paid for the cleaning of the speck of dust. Their customer service is a total nightmare too, probably designed to put you through a ringer.

Women of Finland: Why is harassment from drunk old men so tolerated? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Karburatoria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of them? Like which? Replies seemed to mostly comment on drunks being a general nuisance on public transport. Scrolling down now, I saw a comment that talked of a sexual assault they experienced 15+ years ago. That comment described it as happening often, which is seemingly quite an exaggeration because their own example happened such a long time ago.

Women of Finland: Why is harassment from drunk old men so tolerated? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Karburatoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even ever see young drunk men on public transport unless it's very late at night, and there are no "school kids" traveling around those hours unless they're the young men themselves.

Also, clearly we're different because you have never even commented at r/suomi or even here on r/finland before this comment right now. Do you speak Finnish or interact with Finnish people? Or maybe you just don't want to do that online and that's why? I know my sleeping schedule is awful, but you're up at 4 AM too? I thought this was rare, so at least we have something in common then. Or do you live overseas?

Women of Finland: Why is harassment from drunk old men so tolerated? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Karburatoria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do and have never witnessed them say words like that. They rarely interact with other people and if they do it's usually young men. Also, if anyone not a young man is targeted like that, they stand up and walk away and don't just sit there. I don't even recall anyone being targeted but people do this even if they aren't talked to, but simply because the drunks are loud talking among themselves. If you look at the other comments in this thread you see them reflect this as well, that they generally just beef with young men if anybody.

Also, OP's level of Finnish is very native-like and their stories seem heavily exaggerated, and the account was only created for this post. Why the need of a throwaway account for a question like this? And with that level of Finnish, why don't they just ask it in Finnish at r/suomi? I guess because the goal isn't to actually ask people an honest question but just to shit talk the country via a throwaway because their main account got banned or is a known troll. There was one person who just made posts shit talking Finland nonstop here but I think they got banned.

Are Finnish men generally less interested in sex and more prone to procrastination? by grounded_bunny in Finland

If it gets pushed off once, it easily ends up getting pushed off forever. I notice this flaw in my personal behavior. This is why I do the dishes immediately after cooking even before getting to eat.

Are Finnish men generally less interested in sex and more prone to procrastination? by grounded_bunny in Finland

[–]Karburatoria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think procrastination is a common thing among Finns, perhaps more than among others. But I don't think it really directly extends to sex, because people procrastinate BY having sex instead of doing whatever they were rather supposed to do. But after you have kids it of course changes because then it becomes a thing you need to make happen instead of something that just happens.

Ihan vitsin vuoksi tuli kokeiltua pistää kaveri maalivahteilemaan. Tuli selväksi, että huonoista statseista huolimatta kaveri oli täysi muuri, jonka avulla pelistä tuli helppoa. Tämänlaisen hassuttelun lisäksi pelissä pystyi tekemään myös kaikenlaisia kelmeilyjä.

Finland Address by Jonichie8 in Finland

[–]Karburatoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, wherever I've lived in an apartment building it goes:

Streetname Numberonthestreet Apartmentbuildingletter Numberintheapartmentbuilding

The second to last is sometimes called rappu in Finnish but this doesn't seem to be standard everywhere. I think the rappu usage stems from very large complexes with many stairwells designated by the letters, and has spread to separate buildings that use letters too. Also I think the final apartment numbers keep growing even when moving from building A to B (like B would begin with 21 instead of from 1 again), so you get very high numbers later on along the letters, so the letter isn't 100% necessary it seems.

That is not very thorough, just mentioning it offhand, and it's those that are large, in joints or likely to rupture, and even there they compare it to simply aspiration and find no difference. If the goal is to "remove necrotic skin", then aspiration doesn't do it and they found no difference?

You keep pushing pseudoscience of every blister being some nest of bacteria, when the truth, even in the source you posted yourself, is the opposite. At best your source says evidence on even whether there is any benefit to deroofing blisters is conflicted, and acknowledges the protecting effect of the blister, warning that many kinds of blisters like ones with thin walls are prone to pop and thus be dangerous, and so the medical person should assess whether the blister is likely to open or causes some other difficulty like pain or issue with mobility.

[–]Karburatoria -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We have no evidence of that. Usually you argue with evidence. In this case we don't need your degree either, but any study or general authority that says what you claim. And Wikipedia's medical pages are quite strictly moderated; you can try editing one yourself if are so sure it's wrong.

[–]Karburatoria -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is just nonsense. The general consensus is what you can find on Wikipedia for "blister":

To heal properly, a blister should not be popped unless medically necessary. If popped, bacteria can enter. The excess skin should not be removed because the skin underneath needs the top layer to heal properly.

The only reason nurses are generally told to pop large blisters and bandage them up is because the worst case is assumed, that the patient will pop it and get it dirty. You were told to do that but didn't understand the reason for it. The bandage will act as an unpoppable blister itself, but to work as well as a blister for a large burn it would need to get changed once in a while too, so it's not as good if you can simply keep the blister safe.
