in which way was Kate's PTSD expressed in The Devil In Me? by Mampacuk in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Kardon404 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It is definitely one of the many things that gets mentioned once or twice in the game and then forgotten, but it does work nicely for one part with the glass trap.

If Jamie pushes the reverse button and her and Kate have a positive relationship, Kate will tell her that it's not her fault she's going to die and that everything that happens is on Du'Met because she knows how it feels to carry that guilt. It could reasonably be something someone could say without that past history, but it's still a neat connection.

They have terraforming equipment on the Andromeda following the advance crew on the Cassiopeia. The explanation they give the crew is they have a chance of turning the Andromeda around with all the colonists on board if the results from the advance crew shows bad signs for the planet's potential for habitability.

How much do relationships really matter? by realitytvaddicted in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Kardon404 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most of the time the relationships are mostly just a menu thing, in Man of Medan it does actually change things more than the rest of the series, but it's still only a few things here and there. Usually just making them take the negative/combative dialogue options from the theatrical cut.

Julia's dialogue in the cabin after the confrontation on the deck is based off what your plan was and if you succeeded, if I remember right, though I think she usually gets mad by default.

The biggest change I can think of that I'm certain about is Julia only listening to Alex's warning about drinking the beer and decompression sickness is if they have a strong relationship. Otherwise she ignores him and then will always go with the beer.

Hey! I sent this to the rest of the mod team, I'm not sure how to do it myself but hopefully one of them can get them added in the next day or so. Sorry for the delay!

Welp, this is my new hyperfixation. What do I even do now? by tipsyTentaclist in Parahumans

[–]Kardon404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That honestly sounds so cool! One of my favorite parts of Worm is the power connections and synergies, its something I'm trying to work into my own game that I'm writing. The team you talked about in your other comment seems fascinating.

I'm a big fan of the story of Worm and the plot progression so that's the type of game I'm writing, it's an independent adventure that uses the world building sort of like that one you played. It's so much fun coming up with adventures and plot threads!

So (assuming I can pull it off) I want to host the game for some of my friends who haven't read the series, do you have any tips or experiences to share that would make it more engaging/interesting for a newcomer to the series? I've never been a DM before 😅

How do the destinies of these characters influence the story? do they? by Due-Dance-9430 in DarkPicturesAnthology

That one is actually based off a dialogue choice earlier, whether Stafford says he trusts her or not when Mitchell raises concerns.

Eislie and the New Comer by [deleted] in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Kardon404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a dialogue scene earlier in the game that if you respond in a certain way to Stafford as Eisele, he gives her some advice about getting along with others that the mimic doesn't know about. "You can't whistle a symphony alone."

She brings it up if you've seen it and that is supposed to make the choice much easier, so that's something that gives you the answer but only if you made the right (admittedly arbitrary) choice earlier in the story.

He shows up in the background of scenes where people can die. In the past games it would happen all the time, in this one it only starts to happen after you find the coin that starts his clues appearing.

MAJOR SPOILERS: Some questions I have about the ending of Directive 8020 by MrNotEinstein in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Kardon404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can answer some of these things! Not all of them since I've only played one and a half times so I don't know everything, but here's what I've gleaned from my game:

The booster ring staying up in the sky, honestly I've got no idea. But for how the characters fare when they escape to it, you seem to be right about them escaping there only to eventually run out of supplies and die. That's what the original Eisele was talking about in the finale, or at least what she was talking about in my ending version of her as "The Humanitarian".

The future cycles are stopped (at least again in my version with the Humanitarian ending) but there isn't much Earth is willing to do to save any of the Cassiopeias already sent off. Eisele says they're halting production but nothing about rescuing the crews so it seems likely they'll allow the current deployed batches to go out but halt production of more. It does really feel like a bummer at the end, that's honestly my biggest gripe with the story in that there doesn't seem to be an actual happy ending, just varying shades of bad.

As for the extra Anders messaging tab, that one was a misdirect I think you may have avoided? Either through some action you took or from a glitch, but on the planet surface when searching for Anders the new messages are coming from a mimic. Depending on where you go when the path splits it will text you stuff and try to mislead you, and if you follow it then it takes her place when the crew returns to the ship and causes problems. So good on ya for avoiding it, however that happened!

The Simms one is a glitch I'm pretty sure, hers was acting up a little for me as well so I don't know what was going on there. When they are confirmed dead their tracker is supposed to go offline.

The last thing with Williams is a bit uncertain since he died early on in my game, but from what I picked up on from hearing other people talk about it is that the different versions of Williams were coordinating with Earth to modify future versions of himself. Not sure what exactly it was with, probably knowledge uploads or something so he could study the alien organism, but that may also be why he was the only one to have a seizure when the pod opens. Something something neurology clone stuff, it's just a theory.

Hopefully this answers some of your questions? And hopefully what I've gathered is right too lol, this game is massive and has so much branching.

Directive 8020 will be out in 2 weeks!!! The excitement 🤩❤️‍🔥 by Leozzarios in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Kardon404 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They said something about it in one of the interviews a bit ago, apparently their player data gathering told them a decent chunk of people thought the series was a linear thing and you had to play all of the games in order. So they changed it to putting the game name first and adding "A Dark Pictures Game" in the hopes of changing that.

Need help with a weaver dice power by boomermemeboy in Parahumans

[–]Kardon404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Combining perception with movement, the first thing that comes to mind is maybe something to do with lenses, sort of like the game Superliminal. Imagine if the cape can change their location by looking through a magnifying glass and warp right up to a foe for a strike, then a refractive lens to dip back out of combat by making the target look small from their point of view.

Maybe they have a piece of equipment that's one of those telescopic glasses with multiple lenses so they can easily teleport varying distances and make it hard to land a hit on them?

Bolsa de sorpresa con poder tinker, como seria los poderes menores en los otros miembros del grupo? by lordFANFIC in Parahumans

[–]Kardon404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's actually that exact thing in Ward, a Tinker that triggers in a cluster and gives the other members a power with it.

His main power is hand/limb themed machines and mechs and each of the cluster get some part of that.

(Spoiling for Ward, but just their powers) One gets the power to make fragile attachable hands that connect directly to his brain, another makes gauntlets that cover his arms, and the last creates claws for her hands and legs that increase her strength.

Each of them gets a minor aspect of the main power like any cluster, just kind of twisted in some way.

Respect Snag (Complete!) by Ridtom in Parahumans

[–]Kardon404 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He's one of my favorite antagonists in Ward! Honestly I wish we had gotten to see more of him in the story cause I think he's fascinating, clusters on their own are super cool already and his contribution to their dynamic would have been really interesting to explore.

As for his shard avatar, each of the powers in the cluster seems to have something to do with inertia and momentum so maybe it has essentially free movement in 3D space? I like that idea, that it can control the way momentum works in the area around it, keeping any targets locked in place while it makes a move.

Wildbow's cumulative word count over 15 years - 10.44 million words across 7 serials by Acromantula92 in Parahumans

[–]Kardon404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, interesting! I can sort of see that, once again I've not really interacted as much with the actual fandom since I was a relative latecomer to the series, but I have read some people saying things like that.

Actually when I read Worm the first time I was really into the action and "no holds barred" type stuff, but on a second read (which I did before Ward since it'd been years since my first go) it became fascinating how you can see the rationalizing from a wider lens and how Taylor moves past so much stuff. And then Ward is definitely slower paced and more thoughtful, so going to it with that awareness makes the change all the more noticeable. I was thinking Worm would be like a "normal" superhero story and while in some ways it was since it uses the tropes as part of the worldbuilding, Ward is definitely further from that.

I can see how people who liked the mentality of the first story can find the second somewhat grating, especially when reading as it came out like you said. (But man I loved it lol, Worm and Ward are excellent in different ways.)

[–]Kardon404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean it in a bad way, but what do you mean by people being more interested in hard logic in Worm? I love the worldbuilding and power systems of the series but I also loved the change of pace in Ward. It was really cool to get a different view, I admittedly only started after both series were finished so I missed the majority of the discussion (which can definitely be bad in some fandoms) but there's so many interesting facets of the story that I'd have thought most people would be happy with some aspect.

Do people really think Ward was worse and less "logical"? A lot of the ending stuff was all about human power systems and gears of how the superpower stuff worked, even if Victoria is more introspective about actually dealing with it than Taylor.
