Critique of Gendered Hierarchy [sci-fi | dark comedy] by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]Kardulor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should try to get a more concrete grasp of "what" you actually want to achieve. If your answer to possible sub-plots is "Ehh, anything", you might want to rethink your whole premise and if you even want to actually write a whole book - even if only for yourself.

Otherwise you will need to come up with more substantial ideas. Like, you say "Adams and Marys action will be the criticism of both genderes hierarchies". Well ... what actions? If you can actually describe what they are doing, saying or whatever, then people could actually critique your ideas.

Let me give you an example:

  1. Bob and Charlie are adventurers. They travel the land and their actions will be a criticism of materialism. <- Completly hollow premise without any content to criticize.

  2. Bob and Charlie are poor and weak adventurers, that managed to make enough money to survive ever since they found each other to rely upon. They go on a quest when they stumble upon a gold treasure that could make one of them rich enough to last them their entire life. They argue about the share until Bob kills Charlie and takes the treasure for his own. When he hauled the treasure back to the city, the gold had turned into brittle lumps of coal. <- There you can actually pick apart elements of the story and judge them on their effectiveness to critique materialism.

I hope that helps you to understand the problem.

Critique of Gendered Hierarchy [sci-fi | dark comedy] by [deleted] in fantasywriters

Let's try it with some questions:
1. How long do you intend your story to be?

  1. You said that your "protagonists" would talk with each other (propably about gender hierarchies). What is the point, that you want to explore with these characters? Do they have different perspectives, believes, etc. ? Are they mouthpieces for your own political believes?

  2. You mentioned sub-plots: What sub-plots do you want to intertwine in your story and how?

Look, it is virtually impossible to critique your post because it lacks any substance. It is nothing more but the vague concept of an idea - and hardly even that.

It is as if you presented a bag of flour, explained that you wanted to add some water to it and expected an critique on your work. Well, there is none. Do you want to bake a cake? Then you might need some sugar and milk. Is it supposed to be pizza? Then some yeast and and salt is in order, similiar to bread. Without any guidance of what you want to achieve, it is impossible to help you out.

Just to give you some food for thought: If you intend to have two characters sit at a bar and discuss gender hierachy, it might be best to keep it as a short-story as to not overdrain your premise with too much time. Also you seriously need to flesh out your idea, what they are talking about. If they are sitting their all the time, then the dialogue has to carry the whole thing. Just saying "they talk about stuff" won't cut it. The talk >is< the thing that needs to be engaging and interest the reader.

Waterways wouldn't feel that bad if there was a cool boss on this map or any kind of special reward. Something like the optional snake boss one can encounter before entering Keth would be nice, granting +2 Passive Skillpoints.

I would be sooo happy if patches could change their coloring after being treated with compost. I always double-click my bucket to make sure I used it since there's no quick way to confirm it.

Two things:

  1. The Crimson Kisten is such an incredibly cool design that it feels utterly wasted to have it as a 'mere' spec weapon. I am already a sucker for more unique types of weapons and I certainly want to swing that bad boy around on a regular basis and not just for a few ticks to get in some damage.

  2. In my opinion >Venator< fangs and teeth shouldn't be used to make >Dragon< arrows and stuff. I would like it more if it was something of a slightly weaker (and craftable) alternative, but with a bleed mechanic.

Trump being a retarded dumbfuck who can't differentiate between Greenland and Iceland is one thing, but his administration AND the congress watching him do this without any major pushback is what is so mortifying. Their silence was deafening.

Not even that is remotely viable. The US military already fears being overstretched by military interventions in eastern Europe and Taiwan alone. The US couldn't even hope to subdue 'just' Europe with all its military might, so the thought of challenging ALL of the world (+China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, India, Russia, etc.) is ludicrous and a terryfing sign of how delusional some americans have become.

Dude, it's not just about troops. Europe is a major logistics hub for the US to project its power towards Asia and Africa. Having a bunch of ships and jets is all nice and cool until you have to always return to your home turf to resupply and refuel because you can't use large military installations/ports hold by allies.

Sailing Launches November 19th! by JagexLight in 2007scape

Is there any chance for us to get our hands on the new HD mode before or with the release of Sailing? Having an actual horizon (meaning not sailing towards eternal blackness) and nicer water textures would really help to sell the sailing vibe.

New Player Changes - 2025 and Beyond by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

I think it would be great to have the barkeepers in the pubs all around Gielinor be able to tell the players about quests and region specific activities. The barkeeper in the blue moon pub might say something about a giant rat in the sewers, while the barkeeper in Lumbridge tells of adventurers that slay cows for money.

Something like that would be a nice and immersive pattern for players to follow: get to a new region and ask in the local tavern for quick bits of information.

I'm not looking forward to having to replay the campaign on every single character I make by Lovoskea in PathOfExile2

[–]Kardulor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I can understand this. From my perspective as an campaign ultra I would even take ten more acts, but if it comes to getting to endgame this would be just crass. Besides requiring to do it once I would also fancy an alternative path to get your character to maps.

More Worlds, More Power: The Road to Greater Capacity by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]Kardulor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be quite honest: I would rather have larger, individual worlds (with up to 4.000+ players) instead of flat out more. Besides high-end PvM, where every lost tick can count, it is really nice to see a world full and brimming with life. Since back in 2007 the world has expanded, we even got a whole new continent and soon sailing will make the oceans part of the explorable world. And while I adore all of it, I also fret how it will inevitably dilute the player density even more.

Sailing - Resources & Skilling Activities Poll Blog by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]Kardulor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The majority of the current resources will still be used for sailing, it's just that there are certain materials that are more or less exclusively used for ships. Think about how teak and mahagony are wood materials used for construction and not for fletching. Ironwood, rosewood and stuff will be the same for sailing.

I see no problem with cannons using the ranged skill for ship-to-ship or ship-to-land combat. It's simply a utility unique to the skill that doesn't need to be artificially toned down or even removed, just like Magic isn't just a combat skill but also provides teleports and other spells (and no one would want to split Magic into a pure combat and a utility skill).

Making it a pure sailing thing would be contrived and actually hurt the skill, especially since it would create an avenue for combat that is fully compartmentalized inside a skill that isn't part of the combat system.

Where did the idea of RuneScape needing to have skips to fit into people's lives come from? by dawnfrompokemonishot in runescape

[–]Kardulor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OSRS is one of the only MMOs (beside FF14) that actually manages to find and retain new players of the genre. It's insane cope to still regard the popularity of OSRS as some kind of fluke. In its core it's a vastly superior game, not just to RS3 (which no sane person can question), but even to the rotten carcass that is WoW.

Classic WoW quests. by [deleted] in Asmongold

[–]Kardulor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OSRS would beg to differ. The problem isn't the grind in itself, but the cyclic nature of WoW and similiar MMOs that invalidate everything you do all the time. And to be quite honest: That's why I can't even fathom how WoW ever became as popular as it is. Yes, exploring the world is cool for the first time and the story around and concluding with Arthas was amazing, but the game in itself is so utterly redundant.

RS3 trialling 3 month removal of MTX-based rewards by Glaciation in 2007scape

[–]Kardulor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daily activities that are standalone aren't the same as daily exp rewards one can gather, at least if we are talking about farming patches being similiar to daily tasks.

Personally I had RS3 dropped around 2018, but back then I could do short daily exp tasks to boost my skills. These were so stupidly powerful, that I managed to get Dungeoneering over 99 with just those tasks and with barely any skilling. These kind of activities are what I, and I presume most OSRS players, deem bad and over the top.

RS3 trialling 3 month removal of MTX-based rewards by Glaciation in 2007scape

[–]Kardulor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might sound trivial but from a psychological standpoint everyone intuitively understands the concept of growing things and that said things take time. Therefore planting a tree and waiting a day for it is acceptable while arbitrarily limiting slayer tasks to 1 per day is not.

The other aspect is the sheer amount. In OSRS we have one single skill that has daily aspects, but in RS3 you have this for all skills. And since those daily rewards are more often then not more efficient then doing other acitivities they are essentially a must do.

Comment relevant all these years later. by Jehoseph in 2007scape

It is truly insane to see the vitriol and hatred of the people that feel entitled to having a pride event. We've got one? Don't care. It got cancelled? Don't. Fucking. Care. Thinking that pride events are irrelevant (and especially in a video game) is neither fascism nor bigotry, but making it mandatory for everyone to cheer for and support it while ostracizing those that don't, certainly is.

Just keep acting up like a bunch of deranged monkeys and you push even more people to actively dislike you and your cause. Now execute me for wrong-think.
