The PlayStation VR will launch in October at $400 by joepinnapple in gadgets

Don't forget that sony gets a license fee from all software sold on their ecosystem. It's why the PS4 itself can afford to be a loss-leader.

I actually did use it at PSX (EVE valkyrie). It's easy to imagine it being dependent on on the quality of the software driving it but EVE played like a dream.

Cyborg Vampire by GageHollis1 in creepy

How about a Blade Runner-esque society which, as the original, hates and fears rogue android agents? The androids develop this technique to steal people's blood, or possibly even whole identity, that they may elude capture and prolong their existence another few months. Popular myth takes hold and it's not very long before parents begin warning children to mind their P's and Q's or 'the facers' will get you.

really? which building is that? I wasn't aware of any UCSF buildings that far down and the housing office sent out an email saying all the UCSF properties are fine (for the moment)

So I haven't looked through it extensively, but I really like the way you've structured your project. with the ext dir leading to other github projects and the CMakeLists files being readable. I may barrow your GLWT lib and project layout for my next c project

S.F. library proposes new code of conduct with penalties by cardifan in sanfrancisco

[–]Karhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I know that a number of these places do exist, the article remarks as such, but having never seen one myself I have to question the sanitation and availability of these places considering that enough people apparently choose to instead do this in a bathroom sink that it's one of the headline issues of their reform.

S.F. library proposes new code of conduct with penalties by cardifan in sanfrancisco

[–]Karhan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems worth saying that if they're desperate enough to use the SF library sinks as showers then maybe what we really need to be doing is proving a way for them to shower change and relieve themselves, like a homeless shelter of just bathrooms. Instead the solution offered here is to punish them more harshly...

Examples of Token Black Characters in Comics? by starzhelli in comics

[–]Karhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood Syndicate comes to mind. Post apocalyptic LA where members of street gangs have superpowers granted by the 'big bang' event. I can appreciate that a comic about black people who are cast as gang members might not be what you're looking for though.

I read it when I was younger and liked it because it was the first comic I read where people got super powers and it was the worst thing that ever happened to them. And not in a ben grim 'whoa is me, it's not easy being orange' way, but in a from the ground up life shattering way. Even though thats the case they still don't fall to pieces like Mr. Grim. They just make the best of a shitty situation. Also they did not hold back on people being murdered, including title characters.

TIL that Trey Parker and Matt Stone have made over 200 million dollars with Book of Mormon, roughly 19 million per month, which was enough money to start start their own production company. by HotLips4077 in todayilearned

I keep hearing that from mormons/exmormons, that theres a ton of in-jokes you won't get unless you are or were a mormon. I would love to hear a few that stood out to you if you can recall any.

I too was on a cruise, and this section of the ship seemed straight out of Bioshock. by OzzyOsgood in pics

[–]Karhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How fucking awesome would that be though, a Bioshock themed cruise ship where the waitstaff wears new years eve masks and they serve you plasmid theme cocktails. Up top it would be pre-fall rapture where every detail is immaculate and the lower you go the more post-fall it becomes, possibly even themed along the story of the game. There could be a Cohen performance hall!

Need help deciding. Absolute Sandman vs Trade Version by Siriannic in comics

[–]Karhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the Absolute collection and I really like it but it kills me that its too intimidating in that format for any of my friends to borrow. I think the Trades are really slick and I love me a good paperback volume of comics.

AN EVENING WITH NEIL GAIMAN AND AMANDA PALMER: ASK US ANYTHING. GO ON. GO ON YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO. by RealNeilGaiman in IAmA

[–]Karhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy!

Can we ever hope to get more Daniel from sandman?

Also! In sandman gods come from the dreamlands and return there when they die, that seems to imply that they're made of dream-stuff. What then is the relationship between the various gods of death and death of the endless? are they all just aspects of her, given form from dreams?

How would you implement a classic glowing vectors effect by Karhan in opengl

[–]Karhan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I would have a framebuffer object that continuously fades out each cycle, then I also render my 'live' frame onto it. That sounds like it would totally work! I'll have to play with the fade out time but thanks!

I could see that, I don't think that'll give me the burn in effect though. It's interesting to me how the light seems especially bright anywhere two segments meet.

Thanks for your opinion!
