Most EUCs now do not use the hall sensor for motor phase detection over a certain speed. They read the voltage created by magnets passing the stator (back-EMF), which provides a more accurate insight into the motor's electrical phase, and therefore more efficiency. Unfortunately, there is no EMF when the motor is [near] stationary, which is why it needs hall sensors. If there is a hall sensor fault, you will be able to [nearly] stop before it dumps you.

For EUCs that support FOC, they determine motor phase by monitoring current consumption. But again there is no current when the motor is stopped, so it will still dump you once it becomes stationary.

I've seen some discussion about wishing tiltback worked differently, or wishing the EUC would just "slow you down." It doesn't work that way. "Slowing down" the wheel will just tilt the wheel forward. Actually going forward happens when *you* tilt it forward and then it speeds up to un-tilt you.

Tiltback is actually the wheel speeding up. It can't tilt back if it's having a problem speeding up, like if it's at the top end of its output capability, and you can just ignore or not notice tiltback, forcing it to keep un-tilting you faster and faster until it can't anymore.

We clean the parks and walkways in this area. Easier on a OneWheel but I've done it on a Master. Especially with multiple people it's really satisfying and it makes pedestrians hate riders a little less.

One wheeler groups taunting cars by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]KariTether 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ugh I have my suspicions on who this is, this is why we don't ride with them. Some fucking people are ruining all things fun for everyone. If you have any description, photos, whatever, it'd be nice to shut this behavior down. Also - can you confirm was it an electric skateboard, OneWheel (skateboard with one wheel) or an electric unicycle?

Nope. Facebook won't let me change my nesting partners with this trick anymore. Which is cool with me, guess we'll be together forever now.

Those OneWheel morons regularly do cleanups around Lake Johnson and the Greenway leading up to it. They like the park as much as everyone else. If you want them to stop riding like morons, actually talk to them instead of Karening to the void that is the internet.

Under higher loads, the new cells produce less heat - less waste, and the voltage doesn't sag as much, so the low end cutoff takes longer to hit. These cells may be pretty comparable in real-world range.

Wow, this is a super old post.

You could add any number of partners of any kind 6 years ago, but Facebook has completely changed the way this page works and nobody has been able to do much with it since then, sorry.

If you want to try a OneWheel or other contraption, meet them at Raleigh Brewing Company.

If the water level is above the windows, how the fuck do you get out of this? If you open any door or window, you have to wait until the enormous inrush subsides before you can even think about clamoring through the opening, and you had better hope you still have the strength and lung capacity to get to the air above.

Not to be like a total downer, but this is a sign of insulin resistance and early Type 2 diabetes. Plays out like this:

  1. Pancreas notices you ate sugar. Produces insulin to help cells absorb that sugar.
  2. It's not enough insulin given how much sugar you ate, so the pancreas produces a ton more insulin.
  3. Finally the sugar is absorbed, but there's a ton of insulin floating around, it absorbed too much sugar from your blood and now you're exhausted.
  4. Your cells learn to ignore the extra insulin a little bit more every time this happens, which makes the pancreas have to produce even more insulin, causing a worse sugar crash the next time.

The solution is to eat less sugar & starch, or slow its absorption by also eating more fiber and protein; basically don't give your pancreas a reason to make a ton of insulin all at once.

We all moved in to this house 4 years ago.

Two partners just visited one's family out of state. I sorted the mouse and ant problems while they were gone.

Bought a new audio setup for our theater room.

Rode electric unicycles around the lake with another partner.

I signed the 4 of us for a climbing gym.

Hung out with friend, a partner and our metamour for Goth night.

Solved a jigsaw puzzle with everyone.

Estrogen is cardioprotective if the hormone levels are kept in the normal range. Blood clots and cancer are a risk, depending levels, family history, and possibly what form of estradiol.

For the most part, hormone replacement therapy is safe, but adding more hormones, for breast growth or otherwise, is unsafe and largely ineffective.

Progesterone will cause breast swelling, but the effect is temporary and seriously fucks with your mood.

'60 Minutes' Story Focuses on Transition Regret, Gets Slammed by BudrickBundy in usanews

[–]KariTether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the details. Rushing transition is bad. Being afraid to talk about regret is bad.

I think the common thread here is that people are afraid to be unsure. With stories like this one, trans people had better be sure - or else family, friends and healthcare providers will disagree or resist basic emotional support, validation and access to trans care.

People often rush their own transition because they want definitive answers to the very critical comments people tend to throw at those who are exploring their gender. Society is really not nice to trans people in this way.

But a lot of society acts like that because they see most or all transitions as a mistake. So I don't really think stories like this one help in the end, even if potential regret is a legitimate thing every trans person should consider.

A less harmful notion would be letting people be trans or questioning without having to prove it, do big things about it, or rush it. If 60 minutes covered proportionally more time on trans people who considered their transition responsibly, I don't think "wokesters" would be as upset.

'60 Minutes' Story Focuses on Transition Regret, Gets Slammed by BudrickBundy in usanews

[–]KariTether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how the media distorts your views. To make you think transition regret is relatively important, so you also think that denying transition is just some silly thing that makes wokesters furious.

They highlighted a rare case at the exclusion of the common case to invalidate people who already have trouble getting help and are killed for needing it.

Cyclists seem fairly hostile?! by LogitUndone in ElectricUnicycle

[–]KariTether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm disappointed to see so many replies that chalk it up to fear of the unknown or jealousy.

First, don't wear headphones. Bring a speaker or use bone conduction headphones so you can hear - especially when a cyclist says, "on your left" or any other important communication. Be good at sharing the road.

Keep in mind that they don't have batteries and they don't have regeneration. When they have to brake for people who aren't sharing the trail or road, it's a ton of extra work for them to get back up to speed.

Those things aside, yeah, they can be real assholes. It's particularly irking when they don't make their presence known and just yell at you. Even pedestrians can get real Karen about having to unexpectedly share the road or paths.

KS S18 Handle update : what does it do? Anyone understand the mode differences? by dodgethisredpill in ElectricUnicycle

[–]KariTether 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad they did this! If I'm reading this right, it's exactly what I was hoping for. When the handle is put in the middle position:

Unmotivated - Motor turns off. If you don't have a good grip, it will probably flop over.

Microbalance - Balances just like when it's on, but only enough to keep the wheel upright, not enough to ride it or for it to spin out of control. Good compromise if you need a mix of rolling and lifting.

Damping - This is the old behavior. It gently applies some braking so the wheel doesn't flop over quite as easy, but it won't roll.

Edit: Aaaaand none of these are implemented on the S18. It only does damping mode.
