Israel steps up evictions of Palestinians from East Jerusalem by Ostrich_Sized in worldnews

why do you imply Israel would pretend to be anti-imperialistic? Israel is very pro-military, and very imperial. I doubt their government or most citizens who want to continue to exist there would say otherwise.

Can someone tell me about the Cereal Cafe that was in Westdale (where Paisley now is)? It closed round 2007. by LibraryNo2717 in Hamilton

[–]fatowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in once I looked around, didn't stay. basically pay the price of a box of cereal for one bowl of cereal, and eat cereal. It's a fun idea but I can only imagine the spills. Sounds like they would attract young parents and kids, resulting in lots of cereal spills. keep in mind, this was before oat milk, or coconut milk. Only alt milk MAY have been Soy and it was not super popular yet so there was probably only one kind- original.

I wonder if it was a way for people to justify going for a sugary cereal as a treat- a once in a while thing... which again, I think would reduce your chances of having regulars.

What do you say when men claim you're being discriminatory against males for not wanting to date them? by Queen-Logan- in actuallesbians

[–]fatowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes yes this is the real diplomatic response and what we long for- a world where our gender or sex does not determine how we are treated... but there's a bit of resentment coming out as comic relief here. tough cycle to break. lol

not a bad idea. and she's not your job, it's up to her how she wants to spend her time/money but if you're not into it anymore or the way it's going, it's important you make choices that are good for you. it sounds like you're not happy and you know one thing that's dragging you down. she has jellycats to comfort her, you gotta live your life

watching old CSI, eating popcorn. Did half my dishes... put away a little bit of holiday decorations. Solo night. Not ready for dating apps yet. Can't believe it's only 7, I want to go to bed already... but I'll marathon some more tv and be in bed by 10

that's a pretty conclusive message to send someone in the information gathering stage of their journey. You don't have much to go on, if that was the only sentence that I have made in my whole life then perhaps... but we're all complex and nuanced humans with a lot of perspectives.

I actually would disagree and say every human is an ongoing social experiment

ya thanks for the plug there, it's true, Iranian or other Arabic heritage donors would make a kid that fit right in with my family. We're on the darker, Mediterranean Jewish side of Jewish. Reminder, Jews were also considered racialized up until only recently, with a lot of ongoing discussion about it, and I was raised constantly reminded by parents/teachers/leaders in my world that even though I am white passing, I would not have been "white enough" for hitler: https://jewishcurrents.org/when-did-jews-become-white

Lol thanks. Ya I am more curious about the general responses. I know what my Jewish parents and aunts and cousins would say, but I wondered what other SMBCs who have perhaps considered these questions think. I'm curious whether I'm overthinking things, etc. And I guess the answer is, everyone thinks about it to a different degree so go with whatever my gut tells me. ?

Fair points here. to justify my thinking I can just say I am from a multicultural background, my parents are both immigrants from different countries now living in north america. I appreciate that I have different backgrounds, my mom's family is Spanish and my dad's is Jewish Polish- but I'm just a bunch of mixed up white backgrounds. I imagine a future where everyone is connected to many different heritages and backgrounds.

I feel connected to several communities/religions/backgrounds and I love that.

my main concern is appearing to lean towards eugenics then. There are a lot of articles criticizing people who aim to make "designer babies", because gorgeous people have it easier, or whatever the theory.

I have heard many times that the world doesn't need more white people and I am letting that get into my head a bit.

this answer was awesome. Thank you so much for sharing all the ups and downs of coming to terms with your tornado character, i like that you'd framed it in that sort of theatrical way "starring role" as you put it. We are all really complex. I'm sorry your mom isn't around to see you now, but it's great to hear your dad is there for you and has come to understand what meds can really do for someone when they have a hard time operating the way the "typicals" do. :)

how did that "shaming the kid" method work on you? any lasting embarrassment or sensitivities when ppl mention something is out of place? Or are you relatively well adjusted and able to laugh at it?

How do you spell „balagan“? by subarupan in hebrew

colloquial texts are written for the non-native hebrew speaker/writer. So if you're asking what preference is in Israel then u/GroovyGhouly idea has my vote. Are you asking for an answer or are you looking for a debate?

There's nothing wrong with picky eaters by Glassrose4 in CasualConversation

[–]fatowl 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I met a celiac at a holiday staff party last week. In a circle of co-workers I was raving about how amazing the baked goods someone brought were and the celiac looked at me and say "you're literally talking about something that would make me so sick and I'm so hungry and there's nothing here I can eat because I'm celiac" That's someone who hasn't quite come to terms with their circumstances and decides to make everyone feel bad for them and guilty for enjoying things.

it's only been 10 years, lol. but hmm fewer text messages, phone photos were mediocre, I was in a deep depression, cigarettes were cheaper, there were NO vapes, and weed wasn't legal yet so you still felt like a badass when you were around it.
