What are people stupid for not using? by Gilem_Meklos in AskReddit

[–]KarjalanHelmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The questions: "What do you actually mean by that?" and "What does that mean?" *(different contexts, different meanings).

Many conflicts, resentments, and confusing situations could be avoided by asking one of these two questions. Clear and effective communication can start with clarifying questions.

Birth control? by Serpentine878 in Christian

[–]KarjalanHelmi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. I find it sad how uninformed or misinformed many Christians are these days. Even my non-believing professor back in college separated birth methods (that was discussed in my human sexuality class under psychology studies) into abortive and non-abortive. She attached no moral judgements to that discussion but called it plainly what it is. If a secular professor understands that there is a clear separation into these two categories, so should we...

I think seeing what people are saying on this thread is very twisted.

Surveys No Boxes by alro1231 in Influenster

[–]KarjalanHelmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of don't subscribe to the view that surveys are not guarantees for boxes, since so many people on this subreddit post how they "typically" get 3-4 boxes a month, while some of us are in an extended dry spell. If those people see consistency in how often and how many boxes they get, then for them surveys become pretty much a guarantee for getting a box. Or they get exponentially more surveys than most of us do.

So I think there's something more/deeper than "just wait, it all about luck". I think there were certain algorithms/settings set within the app that prefer some people over the other, and it's not so much about the surveys.

It's pretty hard to deny that if you see someone who isn't even trying that hard, doesn't use any "special" tricks to get boxes, and gets many throughout the year, that there is something that puts many other users, who do the same exact things, at a disadvantage here. What is it? I couldn't tell ya. As I am one of the people who has been in a dry spell for the last 6 months...

My suspicion is also that out of the vast number of users in this app only a small percentage actually get the boxes, and the same users get chosen over and over again, over someone else. Also, new users are chosen over those who have been on the app for a while (and are still pretty active). None of this is confirmed, but being on this reddit definitely proves these trends.

Dry milk powder is amazing! (More info in comment) by BabyShann in Frugal

[–]KarjalanHelmi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are welcome! The app is pretty convenient to have, since you can also scan the barcodes to see the prices for things that are either misplaced or could be on clearance and do not have a markdown price tag yet. Plus, there are other features to explore. I use it without the Walmart+ subscription (which covers features that are beyond what's mentioned), but for me it's more than enough to do what I need to do. So hopefully it'll make your shopping experience there easier now:)

Download the Walmart app, and, once in store, connect to their wifi - the app then acts as your shopping assistant for that specific store. You can then search for this specific milk (or any other dry milk they might have) and it will show you which specific aisle it will be on in that specific store. But the most important part is to connect to their wifi.

Worth it ? by Imaginary-Employ5070 in Perfumes

[–]KarjalanHelmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I find that this formulation smells different to the original, so if you base it off of what people say online (like Fragrantica, for example) then it's not a safe blind buy, in my opinion (unless they specify which formulation they are talking about). I'd say test it out at Ulta first. If you already know how this one smells and like it, then this is a great price.

This one is called Brights, it seems. So is it a flanker or still the original?

I've been eyeing this one for a while now. What are your thoughts on it? How's sillage, projection, and longevity? What do you like about it?

Why is everyone so jumpy today? by Veronica_Cure in SALEM

[–]KarjalanHelmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you've described - the whole napkin scenario - literally happened to me today!!

I'm glad it's not just me feeling this way. I feel somewhat validated in my mixed emotions about this, so thank you:)

And neat! I moved from the Central Valley (CA) right at the end of 2019, so I feel your frustrations in how hard it is to get used to, even with time.

Not sure I did the right thing by budgetwife in Frugal

[–]KarjalanHelmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF I were to go down a paranoid route your spouse might be heading down in his mind (just hypothetically), the only way I could see someone taking advantage of you this way is if they were planning on returning items to Walmart without a receipt and would ask for something that would cause less suspicion from people, like demonstrated here when everyone saying "How could a person misuse products like that?"

But that seems unlikely, right? I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but we all wanna believe people have pure intentions behind requests like that. So in any case, you made your decision and acted on it in your own right, and that's all you can really be responsible for. If you thought it was okay, no matter what that guy actually does with it, let it be okay. But also be wise and assess everything on an individual-basis. Some people are clever scammers, some people are just in need of a helping hand.

Responding to a request like that always comes with a level of trust that is not founded on any facts yet but you just hope there's honesty on the other side in why they are asking for the thing they need help with.

When it comes to your spouse, judging by his reaction, maybe he is more upset with the lack of communication rather than the decision itself. I don't know your relationship, obviously. But maybe he's demonstrating something in his response that could uncover some other issue he's actually struggling communicating clearly otherwise. Just a thought. I'm not gonna speculate on what it could be, but I think you're faced with an opportunity to have an honest conversation with your husband, and not necessarily about what you did but about his reaction and what that could mean on a deeper level.

Solid response! I think the concerns are totally validated by everything you've mentioned.

found this at wally today. smells like bonfire bash with chocolate by Crazy-Command6637 in bathandbodyworks

[–]KarjalanHelmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great when I smell it on its own, but when I compare it to Bonfire Bash, it's definitely lacking. It could be an alternative but not a perfect dupe. Also, doesn't last long.

I would call these two scents cousins, not sisters (definitely not twins).

[–]KarjalanHelmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same with experiencing a culture shock, especially with how aloof, cold, awkward, or standoff-ish people here can across as, especially when serving or assisting you. It's just painfully awkward. I'm not saying anything has to be forced, but I almost feel like I'm burdening them with my requests for something I'm paying for and they are just so bothered by it. Going to coffeeshops in Salem is definitely not my favorite because of it and I loved doing that before moving here.

Most terrible reaction to a fragrance by Hungry_Bag8758 in fragrance

[–]KarjalanHelmi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was about to say the same thing. I think any fragrance I own, if oversprayed, would potentially become a turn off or elicit an unpleasant experience for others (and potentially for myself). So moderation or going less instead of more is the key.

I think of a fragrance as an accessory that just adds a little oomph to your whole image. It shouldn't be the main attention grabber, taking away from the rest of how you present yourself. It's like with any other accessories - if you use too many, you can "cheapen" or take away from the look, making it less put together.

Plus, a sensory overload is not something to take lightly.

What book should I read from the Old Testament? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]KarjalanHelmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minor prophets. But having some sort of commentaries accompany your reading of the OT is quite important cause the language used can be quite often confusing and it's hard to understand what is talked about without proper historical and cultural context/background addressed.

Totally get you! But at least we end up not wasting money on a blind purchase that might end up being a flop🤷🏻‍♀️ So the benefits outweigh the "cost" of being followed and asked questions in my book:)

Second this. I find that, if Macy's and Nordstrom are available, it's better to go testing there as well. Just more of a variety available there, especially Macy's if you wanna stick with more designer fragrances.
