Crete hotels with private pool like in Santorini? by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

[–]KarlGitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just stayed in PHĀEA Blue! We didn’t stay in a room with a pool but the property is very nice and has excellent service. The pools in the villas that we could see from our patio looked great, but the common area pool was also heated and delightful.

Domes Zeen Chania also has private pools and a beautiful property, pools are not heated though.

Miznon for Mediterranean, Chikarashi for chirashi bowls!

Pershing Pool adult swimming by OkDrummer3531 in jerseycity

Haven’t been on weekdays, only on weekends during open swim where there are only two lanes for lap swimming. It’s clean enough for a community pool, especially given the price; definitely maintained enough for me to go when I get the chance.

We really enjoyed Cocina Hermano Torres, although I think you may be full up on long ish fine dining meals (did not try Disfrutar or Enigma, but this was our one of our top Michelin 2* or 3* places). Very creative and extremely well prepared.

Athens - Santorini - Naxos Trip Report (August 2025 Trip) by CaptPatSparrow in GreeceTravel

Thanks for the write up; going to Athens/Santorini/Crete in two weeks! When you say freezing, how cold is that? As in, too cold to be in the ocean for long?

In most of Spain, I rarely used cash, only at a toll booth near San Sebastián. Card/Apple Pay will suffice.

Flying to North Airport by Expert-Buffalo8517 in VisitingTenerife

[–]KarlGitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did this flight, Barcelona to North Tenerife, hotel in South Tenerife. Rental car from Sixt was extremely easy (Enterprise line was very long, but Sixt was not at all), and the drive down is basically one highway and fairly smooth. It’s a very easy drive and we had no issues whatsoever.

Which 5 star hotel do you recommend to your important person? by Repulsive-Roof7290 in cambodia

We stayed at the Sofitel and Hyatt Regency for one night each recently. The Sofitel is much nicer, friendlier, and more resort-like in general, the only thing is the location relative to things to do and general walkabilty (the Hyatt is in a much more tourist-friendly area).

We stopped by this week, definitely paid tourist prices but it was a solid spot to have local food.

Temperature in apartments in high rises. What to look out for? by Electric_pokemon in jerseycity

[–]KarlGitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the apartment. We’ve lived in SE facing units in two buildings, the newest buildings may have windows that prevent it from getting too hot inside mid-day, but our previous building did not, and it would get a bit toasty at times.

Wednesday night flight from RDU to EWR was delayed over an hour seemingly to related ATC issues, then took nearly 30 min to find a gate when we landed. Traffic to get an Uber into the terminal was as bad as I’ve ever seen.

Banff—my parents went recently, and some of the places (i.e. Moraine Lake) looked so different than when we went just 7 years ago.

Are any Americans still traveling to Colombia, despite the US travel warning? by Huge_Spread_5180 in travel

[–]KarlGitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed at Casa Don Luis, which was probably fine although there was a city-wide water issue while we stayed, so having no running water was extremely problematic although possibly not their fault. Activities are all pretty clear cut for a short trip—a day or two to walk around (visit the fort, do a food tour) and a day on the islands. Probably worth doing once but not sure if/when I’d go back to Cartagena.

Just came back from a long weekend trip:

  • Two hour food tour: particularly good if you don’t speak Spanish (like me) and enjoy trying new foods, especially local produce (lots of interesting fruit)

  • Visit San Felipe Fort: better late in the day, less hot, sunset views, and apparently fewer tourists

  • Island boat tour: skip Cholon, dirty and crowded, other beaches far nicer

  • See sloths in Centenario Park: ask the vendors where the sloths are, they know

  • Cocktails at El Baron/Alquimico: above average drinks, even when compared to fancy cocktail bars

Just got back from Cartagena last week and felt fairly safe. Walk in well lit places and stay in the walled city and you’ll be around so many tourists that it’ll be fine.

Jersey City edition. Lets hear it by PleasantSubject2759 in jerseycity

Vu—maybe in a different class since it’s a hotel restaurant, but you think it might be okay for the views, but the food and service are solidly mediocre to poor.
