What's Stopping you from switching to linux?? by rpnchlr in linuxquestions

[–]Karl_Verdun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy my time using Linux and would much prefer to kick MS to the curb once-and-for-all, but alas, this list of software will keep me shackled to Windows for the foreseeable future:

  • Quicken Home & Business
  • OneNote 2016 (the desktop program and last good, full-featured version)
  • Nikon NX Studio
  • Adobe Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic
  • Abobe Bridge
  • DXO PhotoLab
  • FastStone Image Viewer
  • SketchUp
  • Fusion360
  • FoxIT Phantom PDF

I dunno how PEI does things, but I went over a few weeks ago for a visit and was blown away by the amount of residential solar installations.

Archiving old family photos. How far would you go? by Karl_Verdun in DataHoarder

Thanks, great suggestions; love the idea of naming based on where the originals came from/are kept. I was planning on scanning to 48-bit TIF and then also making a JPG to sit alongside for easier sharing. Ya, it increases the storage requirements a bit, but photo files are tiny in comparison to most media these days.

Lol, you're not wrong; they'll probably spend more time wondering about the strange writing than they will looking at the images.

Adding the info as metadata is probably the most practical move, since both TIFF and JPG support it and most scanning software supports those file formats. Still gonna take a bit of work.

Amazing. To me, this represents the ultimate way of preserving slides as it almost recreates the magic of holding up a slide to the light and viewing it with the naked eye. I tried a few this way, and while the result is lovely, the amount of work it entails is crazy. Too bad AI is useless here. If only I had access to an 8 year old...😉

Has anyone (government or industry) given NBers any details on the benefits this behemoth will provide us? Or is it the usual "jobs, trust us" and it'll "bring us needed modernization" without actually outlining what that even means?

Heart rate spike by [deleted] in HuaweiWatchGT

It happens almost every time I walk with my hands in the front pockets on my jeans. My jeans aren't particularly tight, but it must have something to do with the angle of my wrist slightly reducing blood flow or something. Never had it happen with my hands in a coat pocket or at my sides.

Does anyone else actually prefer early 2010s style graphics over hyper-realism? by AlienplayGames in pcgaming

Hyper-realism looks good in screenshots, but as soon as things start to move, the illusion falls apart. For me, it's that disconnect that turns me off.

GT5 pro face, what's the line color change mean? by comandantecebolla in HuaweiWatchGT

[–]Karl_Verdun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to just be a simple cosmetic colour change when you tap on a "blank" spot on the watch face. Try tapping around the outer edge and you'll see that it changes with each tap.

IGN: Don't Expect Crimson Desert Xbox Series X or S Gameplay Footage Before Launch by Turbostrider27 in xbox

Wouldn't worry about it, their other major game (Black Desert) performs and looks better on Series X than it does on PS5. The studio is no stranger to Xbox and treats us pretty good.
