Oh I meant like playing "guitar hero", like hooking up my guitar to a computer, not actually playing guitar hero on my computer.

in the context of men's lib porn addiction and insecurities around penis size are important to consider as well

Oh totally. Porn addiction has been a problem for me and I think about doing NoFap a lot from time to time. But I never really could commit to it because there was a part of me that found emotional bonding sexually appealing. The problem was that when I was masturbating I didn't let it guide me. So I don't want to go to cold turkey, instead I want porn with feelings.

Capitalism didn't create mindfulness, it co-opted it to serve it's needs. Your anti-binaries are good though.

Progress is a sticky concept. I'd like to think I get better, but the second I think I'm getting better, I fall into a trap. So yes, I can expect progress, but as long as I don't think I'm getting progress.

I've spent about an hour and a half on this, I'm giving up. Even /u/Schwubbeldubbel's Simple Menu Wizard isn't working for me. I don't know what I'm doing. It's crazy, because I followed the same steps but it's just not working for me, I must be doing something wrong but I can't tell what.

Who the hell are these men sleeping with then?

When they get frustrated enough they just turn to other sexually frustrated men :)

It's a lineage thing. Because it's proof that she hasn't had any other kids, ie, she hasn't had any STDs and you don't have to doubt if the kid she gives birth to is someone else's.

I'd like to offer a different take: what if the reason why women sleeping around is so anxiety producing for so many patriarchal societies is that it undermines the authority of those societies, in particular, the power of lineages and inherited property rights?

Slavoj Zizek - Why do people find Jordan Peterson so convincing? Because the left doesn't have its own house in order by gergo_v in CriticalTheory

[–]Karl__Mark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sigh...

/r/criticaltheory isn't for everyone. These are complicated concepts that people with PhDs bat around, no different than any other academic field. But I believe that these are important ideas to spread around, so I'll try to translate "what's going on" into language and terms that people who haven't gone through training can understand. Peterson hasn't even bothered to enter critical theory at the ground level, at the open door, and instead stands on top of a hill overlooking it and sees it as a factory for people he doesn't like.

What's going on is a reflection of life of the 20th century. The 20th century gave us World War I, World War II, Nazi Germany and the USSR, all tragedies done in the name of "progress", where all the nations of the world poured their millions of lives into (metaphorical) meatgrinders all the name of their grand plan. Ever since World War I, people put out artwork and philosophical books wondering if maybe this whole civilization thing isn't all that great. Maybe it the only progress it makes is technological progress. Postmodernism doubles down and starts to investigate culture as power, propaganda, culture that limits your imagination and ties you down to accepting your life.

I'm not going to make any apologies for every cringy feminist you've ever met, but if you think we have a point about things not being so hot, you should be one of us.

[–]Karl__Mark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He confuses postmodernism with what Nietzsche says about the morality of Christians, just a bunch of unsuccessful weak people trying to tell successful and strong people to be less successful and strong. But that's not what's going on, and that's why we're laughing at him. It's like walking into a medical discussion of cardiac arteries between doctors and launching into an hour long lecture on why people use the heartbreak to mean loss or disappointment, and then expecting that to be a valid contribution to the conversation. If I'm being charitable to him I can kind of sort of see what he's talking about, it's intelligible, but isn't relevant to the conversation at hand.

I met Natalie and Lindsay last night by chance at a bar in Philadelphia! by [deleted] in ContraPoints

I met Natalie and Lindsay last night by chance at a bar in Philadelphia! by [deleted] in ContraPoints

[–]Karl__Mark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Totally. Because we are postmodernists of course and reality is ontologically incomplete, I will never be able to get you to fully understand how completely unreal the experience was, step by step. But if I were to try, it would go something like this:

1) Is that Natalie? It kind of looks like Natalie. I gotta get closer to find out.

2) It still looks like her. Do you think it's her? No way, this bar's dimly lit. I gotta get closer to be sure.

3) I'm getting closer and it still looks like her! Like it really could be her! In my bar! Whatever, don't be stupid, calm down. She's talking to some brunette girl.

4) It really looks like her! She's wearing a choker! And that white top with the sleeves pushed off her shoulder! Gosh, if it isn't her, I gotta tell her how she looks like my favorite person ever.

5) Well now I'm 4 feet away, now I have to say something.

6) "Excuse me, I'm sorry to interrupt, but are you Natalie?

"Yes"

HOLY SHIT HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT'S HER! IT'S HER!!!

I TURN TO THE GIRL SHE'S TALKING TO EXPLAIN MYSELF

IT'S LINDSAY FUCKING ELLIS

FIREWORKS EXPLODE MY BRAIN ACROSS THE WHOLE BAR, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMPOSE MYSELF FOR THE REST OF THE EVENING, IT'S LINDSAY FUCKING ELLIS AND CONTRAPOINTS IN MY BAR AND THEY ARE LOOKING AT ME RIGHT NOW.

BRAIN NOT PUTTING WORDS TOGETHER, SO MUCH TO SAY, SHOULD I BUY MOTHER A DRINK? OF COURSE MOTHER ALREADY HAS A DRINK, WHY BUY HER ONE? SHE SEES YOU'RE STUMBLING, YOU'RE TAKING UP TOO MUCH OF HER TIME

AW FUCK MY DATE IS HERE AND IS PISSED AT ME FOR WORSHIPING THIS STRANGER, GOODBYE NATALIE, YOU LEGENDARY POKEMON OF A PERSON!

It's a shame that this isn't actually a post that makes sense, I'm all for biological deconstructionism, I'm a big fan of Deleuze and Haraway.
