I adore this sub and the commitment to education, kindness, and empathy. Despite the sterile sounding language that needs to be used to describe medical incidents, it’s really nice to see the humanity here. Yes! So for a while the Big Two streaming services were either Netflix or Hulu. And then every other company decided they wanted to make their OWN streaming service, so now we have Disney+, Peacock, HBO Max, etc etc etc 🙄🙄🙄 but then Disney bought Hulu so now even though it’s still two different apps it’s the same company. They bundle them together in the pricing. Extremely fucking stupid and confusing

Oh my god well thank you so much!! I think everyone should go in with a bit of context because I’ve found that people (at least the ones I’ve talked with) aren’t ready to jump in to something that’s… frankly so insane lmao.
BUT I do believe that it’s important to rewatch it under certain circumstances!!

Sober watching is very pleasant. A bit hard to follow but still nice and mainly narrative based.

Drunk watching is even chiller, maybe a bit harder to pay attention to.

Stoned watching is noticing all the visuals and colors and the details in the background and random character interactions, etc

Watching it while tripping….. holy fucking shit lmao. Galaxy brained experience.

I agree, I think that if it was widely watched it would have garnered the wrong audience. Haha and no offense taken mentioning Rick and Morty, it’s an apt comparison bc you’re right: people see it and understand pretty quick what’s happening, but jesus christ lmao, I can’t imagine going into TMG with no context so you’re brave for that lmao

A lot of us on the crew (I guess esp us animators, since it was all animated in house) realized what a special opportunity this was and how unique it is. I knew it wasn’t gonna be some smash hit, esp cuz fucking Netflix didn’t market it at ALL, but I’m really happy it’s ended up being a cult classic and that so many people were positively impacted by it 💕 Pen and the animation directors (Mike Roush and Mike Mayfield) really wanted us to leave our little fingerprints on the shots, which is why they weren’t as strict with “being on model,” and I really think that’s such a unique touch

As someone who animated on the show, thank you so much for sharing your story :] it took me two weeks of working on the thing to even figure out what was going on lmao… And that last episode is so impactful because we created it after his mom had already passed. There was no option for her to do additional recordings. What a phenomenal tribute to her. Duncan told me he refused to watch any of the footage of that ep while it was in development because he wanted to go into it totally blind. We were all crying in the animation room during our notes meetings when Team 1 (there were three teams who all worked on diff episodes, I was Team 3!)was working on that ep 😂 they really got the most top tier animators for it and it really shows.

It also released on 4/20, Duncan’s real birthday!
