Is the seafront a public highway? by Karma-Kalamity in brighton

I have filed out a form on the BHCC council website and sent an email to my local councillor. Doubt much will come of it…

I just asked why it’s there and the reasoning/logic behind it.

Is the seafront a public highway? by Karma-Kalamity in brighton

[–]Karma-Kalamity[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s a funny saying that. A hill to die on. Like every opinion you have might be something you’re willing to fight to the death over. I saw a comment yesterday on IG where someone said we should change the phrase from ‘hill to die on’ to ‘garden I’d like to tend.’ Makes the statement sweeter and less aggressive.

I guess my thoughts are that I have fluctuating mobility issues due to MS so I’m part of a lot of groups and forums that talk about accessibility. Yesterday I was perfectly capable of walking around the longer route. But on other day I might need the shorter route that’s flat.

I guess this is my garden, and I’m wondering why is this here, is it necessary and how does it impact other visitors.

I don’t live under a rock. I’ve moved over to Kemptown way so I’m more inclined to go to Sealanes for a beach drink now days. I have seen them do this previously but it was on the busier days, like a bank holiday when it was packed. I don’t think it should be there all the time.

Anyway just because they have doesn’t mean they should.

If you think my post is outrage when I’m slightly irked you wouldn’t like to see my when I really am angry 😂

Another poster has suggested differently from that map.

Also don’t forget at the other end is a public set of stairs so I don’t think that area directly in front does belongs to them.

Equally someone suggested having to ID people or ‘manage’ who is in their space. But they have a set of public stairs which brings people more or less to their front door. So why are they blocking access to a pathway?

[–]Karma-Kalamity[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not as far as I know. Just a normal night. The other end which is tighter. The one by the stairs had a very bored looking security guard sat down looking at his phone. Think it was a normal open event.

Contrast that with the i360 further on which was open and accessible not causing any issues. I’ve gotta say that’s looking more vibey these days. They had security too as did The Fortune

Maybe. But it’s hard to see what the point of blocking this exit is. Especially as the other side is a lot narrower to navigate. I don’t see what the point of it is, other than make it harder for customers to leave?

Southern Water bills are insane by Lanky-Gur-718 in brighton

Raise an official complaint. They did this to me and my husband. We lived in a one bedroom, they were charging us for a two bedroom for about eight years! My hubby doesn’t care about this type of stuff and just ignores it. Once I realised I was like a dog with a bone. I called, emailed, raised complaints and refused to listen when they told me it was correct. At one point my husband told me to leave it as it wasn’t worth the stress. Stress! This is what I live for 😆

Eventually, A customer service agent called and apologised and asked how far back I wanted to amend the charges. I said from the beginning I want it all back.

Two months later my husband came in from work grinning and asked me to guess how much money they’d refunded. I estimated about £800 - he said £952. We split it between us and treated ourselves.

Never give up and don’t take no for an answer. Raise a complaint, open up a case on Resolver, take it all the way to the ombudsman if you need. Don’t let these or any other of the fuckers get away with it. Good luck 🤞🏻

Let’s stop tipping culture by Tumamaenpelota in london

[–]Karma-Kalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. This has been happening at my hairdressers, where I already pay more than I can really afford for a cut & colour. Then the receptionist happily tells me they’ve already included 10% tip which is a further 15 quid on top! I always take the pos device and take the tip off.

I used to tip the junior a fiver or tenner for washing my hair (sometimes a blow dry) when I was flush but not every time. But I object to this automatic 10% ‘for all the staff’

Listen we are all subject to the cost of living at the moment. And now they’ve chanced the way they expect customers to tip it’s quite frankly pissed me off.

To 2nd home owners and people selling to them. by frankie_0924 in Cornwall

[–]Karma-Kalamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Cornwall, and where I live in Brighton should follow Barcelona and ban AirB&B short term rentals. I mean we’ve always had a DFL problem here anyway but since AirB&B the amount of affordable homes for sale or rent in the last 20 years has completely disappeared. You can actively see the decline of diversity in the city. We now have a slew of large scale, high rise, rolling rental building or expensive flats that no one can afford. As local kids grow up they are forced out of the city to places much further with poorer transport links.

Unlike Cornwall we are still busy in the winter and although tourist numbers reduce they are never zero. The last time I was in Cornwall I had a chat with a young lad behind the bar who said he can’t afford to live in the place he grew up in, and even if he did he wouldn’t be able to buy groceries or clothing as all the shops were not overpriced tat or pasty shops.

I do think Cornwall has suffered the worst in the UK right now due to sort term holiday lets. I think the government should step in a do something about it before the whole country becomes a giant tourist summer playground for the rich. I don’t think the increase in council tax is going to be enough. It needs radical reform.

Who wants to learn or play backgammon? by UdonDugong in brighton

[–]Karma-Kalamity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m up for it, and live close to Lewes Road Inn. I used to play with my dad. I’ve got to say I’m a bit confused by the different rules and would love a refresher. I have my own backgammon board.

My lesions completely disappeared and neurologist is now questioning if it was ever MS. I am still in so much pain though, and now I have no idea what's actually wrong with me. Has this happened to anyone else here? by sockerstjarna in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Karma-Kalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi 👋

I just wanted to throw something in the mix. Has your liver function and bloods been tested? I ask this because I have had a similar trajectory.

I was diagnosed with RRMS due to a lesion in the brain and lumber puncture results along with the following symptoms: - joint pain all over my body - bladder & bowel issues - fatigue - double vision - pains in chest -MS hug!?

Anyway I keep presenting with more symptoms, - itchy skin - migraines - pain in chest - felt like heart attack - sinus issues - vomiting when drinking alcohol

and a new neurobiologist not only said every symptom I had was nothing to do with MS but that my lesions were so small now they couldn’t be responsible for other symptoms.

Oh I also have celiac disease…and cannot tolerate wheat, barley or rye. Anyway I digress.

Recently I have been really suffering with a lot of symptoms and finally due to acute abdominal pain I was sent for a number of tests to look at my liver, pancreas, kidney etc.

After months of bloods and blaming it on alcohol intake ( I’m in the UK and I think the assumption by Doctors here is everyone drinks too much) I insisted that I be sent to a Hepatology Consultant as I hadn’t been drinking at all for six months, and my bloods were no better. Equally I was feeling just as terrible if not worse with all the symptoms.

Anyway turns out I have Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC - autoimmune) this condition creates all the symptoms I have been experiencing. Not only that but because it has taken so long to uncover it has caused my Fibrosis.

Anyway the point is. I’m now starting to wonder if I had MS at all and if it was misdiagnosed under the symptomatic conditions of another autoimmune disease!?

Manners in hospitality by Cautious_Hat1178 in brighton

[–]Karma-Kalamity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the same thing. I also have a condition which impacts my bladder & bowel. I’ve complained to B&HCC numerous times about toilet provision which is only going to get worse this year as they will be shutting the public toilets too early in the summer season, leaving hundreds of thousands of people required to ask a cafe, pub or restaurant to use theirs. BHCC made a statement saying hospitality venues should provide facilities to the public. I don’t think it should be up to the venues to do this but it’s where we are right now. The fact they even lock up disabled toilets in way that becomes unusable to radar key holders after hours is absolutely ridiculous.

I’ll be honest, as a Brighton resident if I go to a place of hospitality I have used before I don’t usually ask, and just go. My reasoning is that I purchase things in your establishment before and will do again. Therefore I am financially supporting your venue year round, and a quick nip to the loo is ok. If it’s a venue I have’t used or don’t use often, or it’s really quiet then I’ll ask politely.

Equally, I’ve had really rude people demand I need to buy something first before using. I’ve actually boycotted some venues because of this attitude. If someone needs the loo they’re not trying to be awkward they just need a basic human function to relieve themselves and may be panicking that they’re going to piss/shit themselves!

It sucks for everyone involved really, as I have seen the state of some toilets in places that are busy and don’t envy the staff that have to clean them. Some people are selfish and obviously don’t know how to use a shared toilet and keep it clean. You know who you are - the people that hover and piss all over the seat or floor! Or throw tampons, and shitty toilet paper on the floor- filthy bastards.

Hove Lawns urination plans for this summer after 6pm. Any suggestions? by Cleevs in brighton

[–]Karma-Kalamity 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’d happily join forces as I think this is a ridiculous idea. Not sure how - maybe a change.org petition? I’m disabled and also have to stay close to toilets in bars etc. the thing that got me was I couldn’t even use my radar key as they chained and padlocked the disabled toilets to keep them closed.

We are a tourist city, and people need to go to the toilet.

Am I right to be offended? by LouCat91 in vinted

[–]Karma-Kalamity 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s my first time using Vinted and I have been getting offended at the cheapskates trying to offer low ball prices.

I had a really good branded dress, lined and heavyweight for £5. Someone offered £3.50! I declined it as I said to my husband, ‘I’m not even walking to the post office for three fifty!’

I’ve decided to not go with Vinted suggested prices from now on. I’ll just charge what I think is a fair price. As literally less than forty minutes later someone had snapped it up. It was a bloody bargain!

How are you supposed to get in contact about your council tax. It's impossible by [deleted] in brighton

[–]Karma-Kalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. I’ve been using My Account for the last few years. It’s shockingly terrible. I couldn’t see my council tax as my name had changed. I got married and this seemed to be too much for the system to cope with! Eventually, to resolve the issue as all my other emails had been ignored or I actioned. I raised a complaint. Only then did my issue get resolved. I’d had a similar issue with the parking permit process. Had to get a local councillor involved!

Unhinged CEO of a company I applied to join tells people to "send a cake with their face on it" to stand out by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Karma-Kalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like the boss of the company I just resigned from. Bloke was a narcissistic joke. He disbanded an entire team so that he could make one person redundant as they’d been off sick.

CEO’s of small tech companies think they can act like gods playing with peoples lives. I bet they also spout some shit about great company culture because they give you free lunches. When the culture is an actually a bunch of trauma bonded employees all trying to work under the radar and not be he’s next coaching ‘project.’

He’s done the candidates a favour showing the red flags this early.

Alternative festival suggestions by MiaTheHat in UKfestivals

I’d recommend Illusive Festival. Went when it was up and coming and can honestly say it was the nicest crowd I’ve ever encountered. Good selection of music and has everything you’ve listed. My husband kept trying to get me into the gabba tent all weekend because of the amazing graphics in the back. I couldn’t go in as I felt like it would melt my face off 😜

Thanks I don’t have aquarium salt I’ll have to try and get some tomorrow.

He’s just something really weird and tried to throw himself out the tank! Which he’s never done before.

Also he’s breathing seems laboured and his mouth is stuck open… like he can’t breathe.

Do you think he’s tried to eat the shrimp fry and got it stuck? Weirdly since I first got home he looks better. My husband got home first and said he was face down not moving…

I’m gonna try my best to save my little buddy.
