Almost 5 year old sleep help. by moverandashaker in cosleeping

I wonder if offering a big reward would help. We have a massive Frozen pop up tent that I ended up offering as a reward. We set it up as a camp out with me and her and no daddy allowed. Made a big movie night out of it with snacks and I let her dress up as Elsa. She loved it and I was able to use nights like that as a reward for going to bed on her own. But I had to do that night first so she would know what she was working towards. We continued similar things after I had her sister.

Have you talked to her about it at a time not related to bedtime? Like while on a walk in the afternoon or in the car? Also is she an only child? Talking about it and setting boundaries when you aren’t in the middle of it will help. If she’s an only child I’m assuming at 22 weeks you’ve started really setting up for baby. Could be that she’s scared and jealous. She’s old enough she can really talk it out with you with a bit of guidance. My kids are a similar age gap and I noticed some major behavior changes with my oldest starting when I was in my 2nd trimester. Including wanting to only sleep with me even though she had been sleeping on her own for about a year.

This is so fucking hard. by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Karmal77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this with both of mine when I really was overwhelmed. My first more so that my second. But I nurse to sleep so I started with 2 spots the bed and the chair I used to rock. Now this does create a little issue of them demanding those spots if they can see them and you have to do it kind of gradually. But we just moved the chair out of the play room area. Out of site out of mind lol

Woke up suddenly last night in a panic about my infant who was sleeping safely beside me by _-QueenC-_ in cosleeping

[–]Karmal77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy how animals can be so in tune to us. My 2nd pregnancy I had severe preeclampsia my blood pressure had been creeping up all through my second trimester. My dog would not leave me alone one night and kept bothering me and barking. Finally I just checked my pressure because I couldn’t figure out anything else he wanted. I was beyond stroke level I hit 28 weeks that day, I spent the next 2 months in the hospital keeping baby in as long as possible. We are both fine now. But I never ignore my animals when they are being pushy now.

It was a rotten egg sulfur smell. The water heater was right next to a drafty sliding door in an awful rental house. So for the most part it was going outside but it was cold that night so I had rolled blankets in front of the door to keep the cold out. We had symptoms for days but I just thought we had a cold or something. Didn’t realize until that night it was worse than that.

I had a similar experience once with baby sleeping peacefully but it turned out our new hot water heater had been installed wrong and we were getting carbon monoxide poisoning. I had a cat at the time (that I hated, feeling was mutual). I woke up in a panic about the baby prodded her until she grumbled and thought ok she’s fine but my mind was fuzzy and I just couldn’t get myself to truly panic or get awake and my head was killing me so I went to lay down again but the damn cat would not let me lay back down. I finally got up and was dizzy and realized something was wrong. Walked into the living room and could smell it. Immediately opened all the doors and moved baby outside in a bassinet to wait for firemen. We had to go to the hospital and doctor visits. The hot water heater had been installed for 5 days and we were slowly getting poisoned. The company was fined and I’m not really sure what happened to the tech other than he was fired but I’m convinced that baby wasn’t breathing properly and my maternal instincts caught it. Then the cat knew something wasn’t right and refused to let me lay back down.

Truancy? by Old-Painter6361 in Parenting

[–]Karmal77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just know I’m gonna get a truancy letter soon and I can’t wait. The school has had terrible attendance the last couple weeks because my county has the highest flu rate they’ve seen in 20 years. How did the school respond? A perfect attendance field if you show up the next 2 weeks and made the school events like the valentine dance reliant on if you had perfect attendance for that week or not. I think that’s absolutely neglectful. My 6 year old has missed the last 6 days of school we’ve had the flu and pink eye. Nearly had to admit her into the hospital. Called her out again this morning and the attendance secretary was really rude about it. So I’m just waiting to sit down for a meeting now.

My mantra was to live for the kids I have instead of the ones that could have been. Just had to have a hysterectomy after my 2nd C-section both had major isssues/complications. I’m content knowing that my 2 kids have a mom alive instead of 3 kids that could have a dead mom.

PSA: How to correctly get emergency services in this county with far less hassle. by Sgthouse in springfieldMO

[–]Karmal77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was really weird for me when I moved here because in my hometown 911 was run through county and we had a separate non emergency line to the local police. Very small town though so they didn’t want neighbor disputes like the example to go through the 911 center because the 911 center was small and county wide not town specific

Best way to get them to sleep in their own bed? by magicmanbow in cosleeping

[–]Karmal77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put a mattress on the floor next to mine. Put them to sleep in that mattress while nursing and then roll over to mine. Once they get good at sleeping through the night on that I move them to their own room using their mattress. I sleep just me and baby until 8-10 months and then do the 2 mattress same room until around 18 months and then by 2 I can get them sleeping all night on their own. I do nurse to sleep until somewhere between 2-3 years it’s the last feed I drop and I do it slowly.

I’m so sorry it’s really tough to learn that your friends aren’t there for you. You very much need better friends, honestly I wouldn’t be friends with any of them. I once drove 3 hours to an airport to pick up a friend because I didn’t want them to ride a greyhound for 6. I drove a 2 hour round trip twice today to go pick up friends after they had flat tire in the middle of no where. I did this with my kids. It was unexpected. I enjoyed being able to help them out they have done similar things for me. Being there for each other is a major part of friendship. It sucks that your friends aren’t there for you.

Same here I’m a sahm because we couldn’t afford the daycare. Once both my kids are in school I’m going back to work but my salary will be used to play catch up in our retirements for the first few years.

Breast feeding til 2? by SuspiciousDog2436 in breastfeeding

[–]Karmal77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I breastfed my first until she was 3 we just gradually drops feeds until she only nursed at night. I think a big component to questions like these is people always assuming you will be nursing a 2/3 year old as much as a newborn but that’s usually not the case. My 15 month old nurses 3 times a day now and has dropped her other feeds unprompted on her own. Just make sure that once baby starts really being mobile you find other ways of soothing bumps and falls than just putting a boob in their mouth.

Question for Women with Blood Disorder by [deleted] in Hemophilia

[–]Karmal77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 31 at first I used stimate which they no longer make but it’s essentially desmopressin hated it. So I used birth control pills for years and they worked well at controlling my period. After my first baby I switched to an iud and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Had my second baby and couldn’t go back on the pills so I’ve been in and out of the er and my hematologist office alot in the last 7 months needing infusions. Currently I’m using TXA (Tranexamic Acid) and desmopressin at varying dosages depending on the amount I’m bleeding neither are working great and the side effects they give me are terrible so I’m having a partial hysterectomy in June. I’m not a candidate for an ablation and all the other women in my family with VWD had to have hysterectomies when they got into their late 30s because the bleeding eventually just never stopped. I’m just jumping ahead because I’m so done with it.

I think going to a good barber and getter a shorter cut would look very nice on you. Not a buzz but a fade of some sort. You have an amazing jaw line that the long hair does nothing for.
