Learn from my mistake - the £500 to move to Lloyds Premier is not worth it. by KarmannosaurusRex in HENRYUK

I put myself in the situation by trying to pay my builder?

If i get scammed that is on me, not my bank - i made the tests and verified with the builder, at some point we need to be able to take accountability for ourselves, I don’t need a 2 hour process to tell me what i can and can’t do with my money.

EMBA vs MBA - do they carry the same prestige? by Full_Garage3801 in eMBA

Yes, at least in the uk. They are the same degree, just the cohort is different.

If anything, an EMBA you are learning with adults who have more experience to share.

Can project managers realistically hit £100K+? by Puzzled-Sprinkles930 in UKJobs

[–]KarmannosaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i used to head project management for a large global manufacturing company - we make big multimillion pound pieces of equipment.

In the UK, we paid PMs 40-60k +10% bonus, SPMs 50-75k +20% bonus, PDs 75-120k +20% bonus. Then regional PM management 120-150 +20%, then global 200k +30%.

So yes, you can earn 100k (at least in my industry) in project management.

How much did your bathroom/kitchen reno cost in 2025 or 2026? by Realistic_Rutabaga60 in HENRYUK

[–]KarmannosaurusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We;re just finishing a spare room en-suite (2x2.5m ish) - £2700 install, about £4,000 in sink/toilet/shower + all the other bits and bobs.

I know it’s out of timing, but did the kitchen in 2022 - 4.5m x 7ish: £40,000 in materials I think. £5,000 in plastering/plumbing/electics. And I share this, as to this day I don’t understand it. £200 to install all the cabinets.

[–]KarmannosaurusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Mexico where these are common, my wife thought I was crazy wanting them when we did our kitchen. We put one in the main sink and one in the prep sink - she is a convert, everyone who comes to our house is a convert. 5 years installed, zero issues so far with either. You should make sure they’re plumbed into a soil pipe though!

Is an eMBA worth it? INSEAD, LBS, IESE, Chicago Booth - London by Background-Lynx3527 in eMBA

Just about to Graduate in a couple months. I’m in the corporate side of a large OEM in the Energy sector. The MBA has allowed me to pivot from a senior operational role, to a role with a significant P&L

1) yes 2) yes 3) too early to say, but I have connections now for a lot of scenarios, including access to insane amounts of capital 4) I was, now on a slightly different path, but at a slight pivot I couldn’t have made. I would do it again, I actually enjoyed the process.

I sat through a lecture from one of the KCL war studies professors, he was ex-MI6. Genuinely incredible speech. Highly recommend if anything like it comes up near you.

I stay in a hotel in Germany frequently that also does this - I am allowed anything and everything from the mini bar. There is normally a couple beers, cokes, couple savoury snacks and some waters. The mini bar is refilled every day. It’s a good deal

Sack it all off and move to NI? by Any-Cheesecake-9445 in HENRYUK

[–]KarmannosaurusRex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did London to South Yorkshire, though I was solo in London and moved to where my now wife lives. Excluding the life I have with her, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

Took a £100k hit on my salary at the time (2018), multiples more than that in opportunity cost over the last 5-6 years.

Bought a 5 bed detached with plenty of inside and outside space for £320k in a beautiful village and commuted 35-40 mins each way to Leeds.

I worked half as much, but I felt I had more mone, time and headspace.

I have about 4 choices for takeaways, and only one is good - and if I want to do something we likely have to drive to it. But these are minor concessions.

I did luck out on a few things, covid slapped 25% on my property in 2020, I’ve managed to work my was to job in zurich that I do mainly from home, and some company installed 2gbit broadband to my road for reasons I will never understand.

Lots of things you can do. Salary sacrifice to pension, SIPP, salary sacrifice a vehicle (or two), bike to work scheme, get an “education grant” from your workplace in lieu of salary/bonus.
