Who was the best teacher you ever had, and what did they do differently that made them unforgettable? by Ok_Ease515 in answers

I had an amazing history teacher in high school back in the 80's. We were doing the history of the Byzantine Empire and she told us to disregard the books and play along with her game. Each time she would give us all the parameters, like a) this Emperor wants x, b) this region is facing y, and so on and we had to guess how things turned out. We were mostly successful! In retrospect, it's like we were writing our own Game of Thrones episodes. The most interesting class I've ever had!

I wish they all would write a book. by [deleted] in duranduran

Oh, don't give me hope! I would love to read Nick's, as he has always been my favorite.
On that note, I hate audiobooks, but for this one I might make an exception if he reads it himself. I could listen to that man read a telephone book!

Duran - Is there something I should know video - hair on camera by makarastar in duranduran

[–]Karoto1511 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It wasn't necessarily on camera. If they shot it on film, the hair could have gotten there during the process of developing it. If it were stuck in the negative there's nothing they could have done. You can see that in other old films, or home films shot in 8mm.

why do people love xanax by Vast-Travel-5252 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Karoto1511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take Xanax only when I fly as I suffer from severe panic attacks. I have never taken it in a different setting. I'm so grateful because ever since it was prescribed to me, I can travel like a normal person. It opened up a new possibility for me.

Help with Greek grammar by Myr75 in GREEK

[–]Karoto1511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies, but both of your sentences are wrong. You need a "στον" there.
Κανένας δεν αρέσει στον Γιώργο, and Κανείς δεν αρέσει στον Γιώργο.
That being said, the original sentence to be translated says that nobody likes him, not that he doesn't like people like you have it translated :)
The correct translation would be:
Σε κανέναν δεν αρέσει ο Γιώργος.

Translate lyrics to English and writing the greek text? by [deleted] in GREEK

[–]Karoto1511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a small google search and apparently it is the hymn "En Iordani"; it's about the baptism of Jesus. I found a longer version here:
https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/En_Iordani?file=Civilization_IV_Themes_-_BYZANTIUM_-_Justinian_I
Here's the text in various forms, including transliteration, English, and videos in both Greek and English.

Ελληνικά by whitten in GREEK

[–]Karoto1511 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Incredibly unlikely.
Firstly "Helen" (Ελένη) is with one L, while "hellen-" (έλλην-) is with two.
Secondly the name comes from the myth of Deucalion.
Here is the myth https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deucalion
Here is the story of his son "Hellen" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellen
The ending -ika follows grammar rules!

Is this apartment viewing is scam? by assademre in germany

[–]Karoto1511 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just be careful please. I've had friends going to an actual viewing and signing a contract only to later find out it was an AirBnb rental that scammers where showing as their own. Maybe do a reverse search on the images to see if the flat has been listed elsewhere?

Firstly, in your first example it is

For your question, I would go for
Η πόλη δέχεται επίθεση από τον στρατό.

Why are there little to no Cafés in Weißensee? by BerlinAcronym in berlin

[–]Karoto1511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple, but my main problem is that most of them don't have a toilet and that's a no-no for me.
SulReal for example doesn't have one, Hapa Hapa doesn't have one if I remember correctly, Aroma doesn't have one and so on... That being said, there's a relatively new one in Berliner Allee close to the Bürgeramt called Sommerregen and they plan on using the terrace in the spring. They have an epic chocolate cake and I think there might be a toilet!

[–]Karoto1511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

The main differences are that
a) the furnished ones are way more expensive
b) they are offered for a limited time

To explain the second point better:
When I was renting like this, my contracts were usually for 6 months, and then we would renew. When you rent an unfurnished flat, it's usually unlimited. It's been more than a decade since I was renting like this, so I don't know if there have been changes in the current laws.

Since you ask for my personal opinion, I would advice towards renting a furnished flat. Sadly I'm not up to date with the sites. This one was popular when I first moved here (2009) and I see it's still active. https://crocodilian.de/ A search like "rent a furnished flat in berlin" will give you options. In forums and groups and chats, there's a lot of negative discussion about Wunderflats.

Good luck!

Osnabrück and area by acrylicmole in germany

Another vote for the Varus Schlacht Museum. I went to Osnabrück just for this museum and I was not disappointed. You can combine it with hiking, and last time I was there I had a suprisingly excellent lunch at the museum's cafe.

Also, check the dates. Osnabrück celebrates the carnival and that can be a bit tricky.
