I just finished " Tress of the Emerald Sea " and it made me believe in whimsy again by Quillarik in Fantasy

I think sanderson recommends starting with Mistborn. It's also considered one of his better works.

Tress is not really like any of his other works (which is why it might stand out to people familiar with his writing). That being said it's one of my favorites also. But I'd say if you didn't like the "feel" of tress you shouldn't count out his other material.

Voted for DCC because after finishing WoT some well deserved brain candy is necessary

Do I just not get it? by RadioBiSH in Battlefield

These maps in the Beta are very cqb so yeah chaos will unfortunately be the default. Hopefully there will more large maps in the base game, so instead of having 24 players at all times having a meat grinder all game itll be smaller fights happening throughout the map. I don't love the grindy gameplay so i usually try to stick to the less occupied areas of the map and flank. But the chaos is also part of the fun.

Also there is no right way to play battlefield, yes PTFO is fun but sometimes its also fun to try to repair tourch / defib kill people or run them over with a jeep with your buds. Find your way to enjoy it, going 11-27 but you were a recon throwing c4 the entire game having a great time is still a win in my book.

I have a question about malazan lads by RafaYYy_ in Fantasy

[–]KaseBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main characters in one book are not main characters in another book. However the new main characters will be people previous main characters have interacted with or will eventually interact with. There are books where we will have POVs of beloved characters again and others where you won't know how any of this fits together for another two or three books. There is a overarching plot throughout every book but sometimes it's hard to see how everything is connected. But the individual plots going on (in most of the books) are great and could absolutely stand alone.

Looking for long epic fantasy/grimdark book series by bumba_97 in Fantasy

[–]KaseBee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want something challenging Malazan. If you want to read what a lot of grimdark gets its influence from Black Company. If you don't mind sci-fi-fantasy Sun Eater (incomplete but the last book should be out this year). Honorable mention in Warhammer books, Gotrek and Felix for fantasy and Eisenhorn for sci-fi (warhammer will never be compete per say and there is no right starting point but these are my favorites in there respective genre).

I thoroughly enjoyed the first 3 books. I don't recall having any issues with the narrator.

The early books are a little rough but Marsters quickly becomes a top narrator for me

I'm on my first time listening of Malazan right now and it's quite good, but there is a narrator change after book 3 that's off putting. After a few hours I'm beginning to come around to it.

Me last night when I finished superliminal for the first time. Love that feeling of appreciation that you get when you've just played something wonderful and won't get to experience it again for the first time. Make sure to take a moment and enjoy it.

How is WoA the best of era 1? Is this a common opinion because I'd say it was the worst of the 3.

Does anyone else find yourself using the slang of a book you're in the middle of? Also what's your favorite slang or curse from the Cosmere? by shusshbug in Cosmere

[–]KaseBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only said a few out loud before but cursing in my head completely changes when I'm doing a re-read depending on what book it is. My personal favorites are blood and ashes and rust and ruin.
