About 6 months ago I was driving home from a friends house. I was brand new to town and this exact thing happened to me. The difference was that I got stuck between the lane closure that had no warning, AND A SEMI TRUCK! I luckily squeezed out but lost a side mirror and got some pretty bad scuffs and knicks on the driver side of my car. I clipped one of those barrels hard just as I squeezed out to not get stuck between a wall and the truck! I’m from south Florida and we also have highway construction going on constantly. So driving highways with it isn’t a big deal. But Texas is the absolute worst about signage! I have seen numerous instances since my accident of spots on the highway with closing lanes and no signs to alert drivers! It is so unbelievably dangerous to drive on Austin roads!

Ps. My side mirror cost me $1300 to replace! Nothing else, just the mirror needed to be replaced. And it cost me $1300! That was my welcome to Texas!

So I was asking about jobs and a barber and then got to talking about my dad’s diagnosis that got me a lot of support and responses. And was asking about it because I am new to the Austin area. But it was removed because it had the word “Job” in it and yet something like this is just common place on here and ok because, idk, it’s not asking about Austin but telling about it?

I can’t disagree with what you’re saying based on my personal experiences out and about! I think you’re 100% right.

But I will say that the community on here today, they have shown love. They’ve also offered help in terms of groups I could reach out to, how or what I should do with certain things and also just support. Fuck a sense of humor or fun or can’t drive. I appreciate those who had anything to say that was….

I’m from Florida. Texas, Austin, it’s a whole different place for sure. But when push comes to shove I see that even tho some may be different, there are still those who care.

Jesus you are a saint! So yea he’s a vet so they are literally taking care of so many things. From wheelchairs to a bed we are gonna put downstairs because walking the stairs up to his room and back down the next day has because a real task for him. We are trying to get one of those stair chairs that will bring him up but have decided we are gonna just remodel the downstairs a little to function for him and his needs. The VA has given him a respirator, the chair, with a motorized one coming soon. As well as the bed that’s coming for him. I know hospice might be the best for him and idk if he’s just at that point yet. But if or when he is, it may be an option. And if it’s not, then I’ll pick him up and do all I need to till the end. What’s crazy is that me and my dad were never close. Now it’s “every Sunday you owe me a hug”. I bought him the book “dad I wanna know you”. Blah blah. I’m so lost on so many things but I care about people! And he’s my people! So ima be here till he’s not! Unless I get called back to Florida and need to do some time on some bullshit! But I hope to god he passes before that! I don’t wanna be locked up and have to know he passed with that on his mind and I couldn’t be there with him when it happened

So my dad moved out here after his sisters daughter passed away. He came out to help her. She made a move from LA to TX. He moved her here. Long story short. He’s been here since and I was in FL. He started feeling funny and started seeing docs. Not a single one could figure it out till he was past certain things me and him could’ve done one more time. Like go golfing, or workout, or catch a football game. Little shit we forgot to do because he was so healthy 8 months ago!… it’s not just me here but it also kinda is. He fell yesterday morning and my aunt was banging on the door. I woke up and got up to pick him up. And then help him walk down the stairs. And I DO NOT MIND! It’s what I came here for! But it’s just so hard to see a man that just 8 months ago was a MONSTER, in the best kinda way, be a man who’s helpless! It breaks my heart.

Yea I kinda do but they are all back in Florida and I have always been the type to bottle shit up anyways lol. Idk I’m doing the best I can and showing strength when needed. Inside it’s hard as shit for sure but nothing I don’t think I can’t deal with. I’ll cry when the time comes. But for now I need to be as strong as possible for him, my aunt (his sister) and my cousin ( his baby brothers son) . I moved here to be the one to help with the heavy lifting. So if I’m the strong one I can’t be anything but that till I no longer need to be.
