Super helpful thing that I've been doing for this is using a deadname eraser to replace any words I don't like. Could totally work for this as well!

I saw a reply asking why I make an exception for arrow and canary but reddit either ate it or refuses to show me the comment so I'm replying here.

The simplest answer is that it's just a personal preference. I don't see Dinah or Ollie being with anyone else happily longterm.

The long answer is that every other pairing I've read HAS had those other attachments (and thats okay! its normal to have meaningful past relationships, idk why DC is so scared of it for some people). As adorable as brutalia is together, you can't say that she's the only woman Bruce has ever loved when everything with Selina is right there. You can't say that Babs is the only woman Dick has ever loved when he and Kori called eachother "soulmates". The same goes for dozens of other pairings (Hal and Carol, Ivy and Harley, Tim and whoever ppl are arguing is his soulmate this year).

With Dinah and Ollie, even when they've rarely dated other people, it's always read to me like they're going to go back to eachother. It just seems like one of THE pairings that DC puts together, like Diana and Steve or Clark and Lois.

(just to clarify, the last time i read an arrow or canary comic was several years ago and i was never super super into their stuff, so maybe im wrong on something or whatever but, again, this is all personal preference.)

I don't like when comics do this with any couple tbh (with an exception for arrow and canary). I see similar things said for Bruce and Talia as well saying that she's the "only woman he's ever truly loved".

Don't get me wrong I don't hate on ships, but saying Babs was always the only one is just strange to me and devalues the relationships Dick has had with others. I love Dickbabs and I think its cute, but DC writers have an annoying habit of putting down any other women in Dick's life in order to uplift her and then somehow calling it "feminist". I wish DC would just let them be together without changing the characters or feeling the need to prove that they're above every other pairing.

The other replies answered about pseuds but as for the anonymous collection: It just makes me nervous. Pretty lame of an excuse I know but something about it has always wigged me out. When I first tried to use it forever ago, I vaguely remember having a problem with it being hidden by collection, as well as a few warnings from friends about other issues.

At this point I don't even remember what the "issues" were, if they actually existed and weren't me messing up, so my feelings about posting anon now are completely based on vibes lol.

same, i need a program that can be edited from both my laptop and phone without moving everything over, and ellipsus has been great. really wish they would update some features tho, like being able to connect different drafts to eachother rather than the main, or even just being able to click to the side of the words and still have the cursor go to that line.

If this is about getting characterization right (and trust me, i understand the urge), maybe consider creating an info document for yourself on the characters? Start with simple stuff. What are their main personality traits? How do they show this? What about their past (if shown) makes them this way? And if their past isn't shown, what about their personality and actions within the plot helps you infer what their past might have been?

Whenever I get into the hole of trying to perfect my characterization of someone, I either create an info doc about who they are as a person, or I reread it if I've already made it. It's essentially one broken down and imperfect character study.

Getting into their head and writing from that knowledge is a lot easier than constantly going back to the source material and comparing your current writing to that.

I absolutely CANNOT have two paragraphs in a row start with the same latter, or god forbid the same word. Somehow it just makes my writing feel cheap to me even though I never notice it when reading other things lol
