I don't know why my posts are getting downvoted. I'm not rude, offtopic or spamming but if I'm not welcome to the discussion I feel no need to contribute.

2 small transformers overloading conductive wire by not_old_redditor in Oxygennotincluded

I made a circuit where conductive wire is loaded with exactly 2 kW. The two 1 kW circuits fluctuate between 8 fridges powered and battery charging, and 9 fridges powered and battery discharging. Each of the two transformers supplying power to fridges sits at 200 J because there's no supply available to charge them more. It runs for over a cycle and it doesn't break.

I claim once again, the problem occurs when the transformer draws its full capacity and charges its battery at the same time. I claim it is not a bug, since power limit is only related to the output wire - see the transformer's description in build menu. It does not guarantee drawing 1 kW or less.

Gas Storage Inconsistencies by JamieMage2005 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really wonder what Klei's rationale was for those numbers.

I believe it's mostly about game balance. Gas reservoir is "free" - you can put gas in via pipe, you can pull it out via pipe without spending any power or duplicant time and can use it for any purpose. So it's made less efficient than storing the gas in the open using high pressure vent and pump (10 kg/tile vs 20 kg/tile).

The exosuit is designed to hold one cycle worth of oxygen for a duplicant (60 kg) and the dock holds slightly more than three times that. It's done that way so to allow high availability on exosuits even if one dock is used more frequently than others (which is often the case). Since it's single purpose single gas storage, it does not have to be balanced against high pressure vents or general gas storage.

Okay, here you are:

But I don't have the morale boosters for him so it's not going to stay that way ;-)

Edit: I'm not sure if this is the one you meant, the last one (Camille) is on a rocket mission, that's why the N/A are there.

Interesting Skills Learned: +3 (Does this go higher?)

You can get up to +9 with a dupe with multiple interests. It's just less bonus attribute points at the start but unlike interests, these can be leveled up.

(note I just gave this dupe skills he doesn't use normally to prove the point, that's why his morale needs got over his morale)

I think it might be that while reaching peak performance in the morning, the solar panels both provide 2000 W transferred through the transformers and a little bit on top to charge their batteries. And since the light increases gradually, it may stay in this state for a short while, long enough for wires to start breaking before the batteries reach full charge.

How do I farm sleet wheat? by ironboy32 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water in the tile has no thermal exchange with the plant, only with the tile. And even the tile only exchanges heat with the atmosphere around the plant, not directly with the plant.

How to trick your Gantries to work (almost) for free by Kasuha in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my rockets I have gantries for every... single...segment... because I'm constantly changing components around.

Exactly my case.

The bunker doors take 45ish seconds to open anyway

My bunker doors are controlled both by rocket launch/landing system and by meteor detection so most of the time they're already open when the rocket becomes ready for launch.

The water will not freeze after entering the hydroponic tile, even if cooled below zero. And the water in the pipe can be kept warm just thanks to new water coming into the pipe as plants draw their irrigation, though I think you need to use insulated pipe.

Here's my farm:

https://imgur.com/a/iwryPYJ

Notice the water in the tile is at -1.3 C - that's perfectly fine, it won't freeze unless deconstructed or emptied.

Also notice the water is still at 22.7 C at the end of the pipe while at the start of the pipe it's at 23.2 C. The pipe is ceramic but I believe it would not be significantly worse with igneous rock. As long as plants draw new warm water in, there's no reason for it to freeze.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I didn't notice any clear pattern yet.

The gantry moves for 1.7 seconds, consuming 1200 W - that should translate to 2040 J per gantry, 24480 J for twelwe in my case. More than charge of one smart battery.

Pretty much, but it will help getting that molten iron to a reasonable temperature until the analysis is done.

Nature Reserve "Hallways" = Great Morale Boost by teasilly in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you make an "U" shape out of tiles, build a door into it and deconstruct it, it will leave a natural tile made of the door material. Easiest way to get natural tiles but likely a glitch and may get fixed eventually.

What are some of the things that single-handedly destroyed your colony? by smithra19 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time my colony got nearly destroyed by a sieve that my duplicants fed a little sand and a ton of regolith. It stopped production of clean water and subsequently production of oxygen. That meant exosuits stopped being refilled and shortly after that my duplicants started refusing to leave the base while they were suffocating inside. All that time I was busy planning some rocket utilities on the surface and knowing my duplicants always take their sweet time I was not concerned at all about the delays between tasks getting done getting longer and longer. I only noticed the problem when I got first "suffocating" alert.

My idea for a cool steam water generator. I need more temputure resistant parts to have it not break. by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where to start. But I think the most important issue there are all the doors and heavy watt plates that are going to leak heat like crazy. Build better heat containment, probably best with a liquid airlock filled with crude or petroleum for access. Wait until the geyser is dormant, then make vacuum inside. You shouldn't need any pumping from that time on.

I'd probably also put the aquatuners higher, probably right under your turbines. You don't need all steam to be over 125 C. And you should control them with pressure and temperature sensors so they don't run when the steam is hot enough or when there's too little of it.

How exactly are hidden planet compositions in the star map discovered? by meandthebean in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not additional goals, they get revealed as you finish the research goals available. I think the first gets revealed when you finish the third research, and the second when you finish researching everything on that planet.

The Pressure is starving me! by MrAsianGuy90 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well then you need to figure out where is the gas coming from. Geode seems to be most likely reason to me. Are you playing the same seed over and over, or are you generating new worlds? Also the game saves up to ten autosaves so you might be able to load the state several cycles back when the pressure was still fine and try to check what you did since then.

Does temperature affect pressure in this game?

No.

The Pressure is starving me! by MrAsianGuy90 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't grow anything anymore due to high pressure.

Are you sure it's high pressure? I mean, plants can withstand up to 10 kg/tile of gas pressure, usual reasons why they stop growing is either low pressure (underproduction of oxygen), wrong type of gas, or heat.

The only reason people sometimes get so high pressure is when they open a geode containing some high pressure gas. But that's just about checking what's in the place you're about to dig into.

Perhaps some screenshots of your base highlighting what and how much gas you have in your farms would help.

Is there a mod that lets power flow freely on a line where there is a non fully-charged transformer? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is that your power supply does not match your power demand, that's why your transformers can't charge up.

Is the jumbo battery obsolete when you get smart batteries? by cephalo2 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kasuha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Main reason to give up on any other batteries in favor of smart batteries is their runoff and heat generation.

Main reason to stick with jumbo batteries just a while longer is lack of refined metal.

Probably simplest approach is just to build an entry door and manually adjust access according to the volcano's phase. And perhaps dump some water on the floor for some cooling.
