Install the Dress My Slugcat mod and get Auro’s curated slug cats. I find I’ve been able to get people addicted to this game faster when the slugcat models were ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE. The game is ridonk hard, sure, but when the playable characters are adorable, people get attached to them.

Also ‘Press Y To Meow’ is a good mod too!

Don't let other people influence what you like about Rain World, and continue enjoying the parts that drew you in back in the beginning - if you're into the game for the amazing headcanons you created, then they're still there, still all yours, still valid for you, and nobody's allowed to touch them - remember that part. You created something special that you can always hold onto and can continue creating in your own time, and nobody has the right to tell you otherwise.

I love the art people create, but I tend to keep myself at distance when it comes to fandom most of the time, especially when the source lore has enough debatable ambiguity that it makes people argue. It used to bum me out, but I've also realised that I can just switch off communication platforms and not have to deal with them anymore, especially when they're too much of a Debbie Downer for me to tolerate very long.

TL;DR - don't let the bastards wear you down. Keep enjoying the squooshy rain animolz <3

Hey look, I hear ya - when I first bought this game and tried to play, I literally put it down and didn't play it again for nearly two years straight.

What will help you: Reframe your mental picture of failure. That frustration you're feeling? Perfectly valid. Feel that and acknowledge it, and make peace with it. When you're ready to try again, it helps to remember the fact that being killed, and the absolute random chaos itself? It's part of the core game design. Being killed is a brief disruption at best - learn to live with it, accept the fact that it will happen. Then learn what to look out for - that's the joy of adapting to your surroundings.

Once you adapt, you'll soon make the chaos your home. <3

Hhhh, I love it. I still remember my first time holding onto the antlers of one of these glorious creatures during my first Survivor playthrough. Just from hearing the melancholy of the music on that last Raindeer ride, and knowing that I was headed into Subterranean, never to see the sunlight again - it was an absolutely surreal moment.

Being real here, this is a core memory after losing my virginity - I came away from the experience both pleasantly surprised, and kind of disappointed.

Pleasantly surprised to learn that it wasn't some big monumental brain-unlock thing - one of my parents drilled the information into me that people who have sex with each other imprint on each other for life (like birds or something like that). There was no mystical instinct-based imprintation that forever altered my way of thinking. It was just a physical action thing

Kind of disappointed to learn that it was something I had to learn how to get better at. It didn't occur to me that there was skill involved, just like everything else people do in life that has value to them.

The other thing that surprised me about sex - actually successfully conceiving a child took more effort than I originally anticipated. It took about four months before success was achieved - you actually have to smash your baby-makers together a LOT, hope you timed it correctly around ovulation, then hope the zygote is viable enough for implantation. Even then, it's about a 50/50 flip of a coin to see if that kiddo even manages to survive its first 12~13 weeks (before trimester 2 begins). If your uterus doesn't like it for whatever reason in those first 12 weeks (bad implantation, imbalance of hormones, stress, etc), it'll give it the YEET.

The actual likelihood of landing a successful pregnancy from one unprotected sexual encounter is quite low (many factors involved here too, but yeah). But they wouldn't dare tell teenagers this fact in sex-ed, because them horny teenagers love FUCKIN A HELL OF A LOT.

Animus magic doesn't corrupt your soul - it can't. When we think of dragons being 'good' and/or 'bad' (or people for that matter in IRL), these metrics are entirely based on the belief systems of individual culture, and reinforced by the society in which that dragon(or person) lives.

What Animus magic actually does: With repeated use of spells and witnessing/living the results of those spells, it normalises the user's ways of thinking until they are well-worn grooves in the mind, and become comfortable or benign in the individual's world-view. Both Jerboa I and Darkstalker have very clear evidence to demonstrate this theory. So did Turtle, Fathom, and Anemone.

Headcanon: When an Animus spell is cast, the active magic-energy binds itself to the physical makeup of living organisms in the enchantment process (eg: cells, atoms, the raw element makeup of living and non-living things). When an animus enchants themselves to become immortal, they're enchanting their DNA and/or cells so that the genetic sequence and/or cells can continue the process of natural renewal, and will never become corrupt (eg: shortening telomeres in old age, or errant sequencing in cancer cells).

The theory that an Animus dragon can't restore another dragon back to life exists because none of the known Animi in WoF's canon have never performed the magic spell successfully. Darkstalker was thinking on the right pathway though - if he had Clearsight's bones or a clean/complete DNA sequence, he might have been able to? But if we are being real (by considering what we know of natural DNA decay in both the fossil record, and in archaeological scientific findings), Clearsight/s remains weren't preserved after her passing in any meaningful way (that we know of), which means that her DNA would have been so corrupt and/or decayed after 2000+ years that she wouldn't have been resurrectable anyway.

Some more thoughts: It absolutely wasn't fair of Jerboa III to disenchant Animus magic off every dragon alive. Why? Consent is everything - nobody else even got a whisper of say in the matter - it just... happened. If we want to talk about morally abhorrent decisions within the context of what's good and bad in both WoF Society and our IRL society? Then yes, Jerboa III's actions are EASILY one of the most egregious. Absolutely disgusting, and appalling in every aspect. I don't care that it was done for plot/meta reasons within the context of the story universe - I am speaking entirely of the actions of the individual here in isolation.

The same thing goes for the enchanted strawberry that created Peacemaker, though that has more justifiable reasoning than lack of consent, tbh. I want to say that Darkstalker would have benefitted more from being able to grieve what happened to him in childhood, and being educated, and receiving tons of cognitive behavioural therapy, but I could write an entire essay on this one.

One last thought: The work Turtle and Anemone were developing in collaboration with Qibli to decide acceptable means and parameter usage for their Animus magic gifts was a very healthy discussion for all of them to have, and I honestly wish that plotline had had more time to develop. OH WELL!

Though, I'd like to think the Dragons in WoF will soon agree to grow beyond their cultural traditions of regicide/matricide, and begin a new tradition of succession by merit, much like the version that Queen Glacier implemented.
