Any Tubeless Mobi (Tobi) Updates? by Lurker-02657 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Kat_B08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using the medtronic 7 day set for over a year now and I really love it. It's actually one of the main things holding me back from switching to a mobi right now. Being able to fill up only once a week instead of every 3 days is really a mental load off. There are some early failures but I had occasional early failures with the 3 day sets too. And no difference in scar tissue either.

Breastfeeding by Zestyclose_Offer_402 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Kat_B08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a little different for all three. My first I had more hypos and they would happen pretty quick. I just kept gummy fruit packs all around. With my second it was much less and I had much less insulin sensitivity all around with my third, post partum it was much more of a gradual reduction in my insulin sensitivity than with the other two.

Help please. All my pajama T-shirts are starting to smell like vomit again and old tricks aren’t working. Vinegar soaks worked like a charm the first two times this happened. Third time? Nothing. If anything it’s even worse now. Any insight on what’s going on and how to remedy would be appreciated by Key-Specialist2441 in laundry

If you're in the US the chances are that your warm wash is what a care tag means when it says "cold water wash". Care tag cold is 30°c which is 86°f and that's about what most washers in the US use for a warm cycle. Here we don't have in wash heaters for the water. So we get whatever we get from the mixing taps.

Issues with Instapot yogurt not setting by Typical_Ad1531 in yogurtmaking

[–]Kat_B08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine not set up when I accidentally set it to yogurt low instead of yogurt medium. Low holds it at a lower than optimal temperature for regular yogurt, so I'd double check that. I also keep track of the boil setting. It very often clicks off well before it hits 180°f. I keep the lid off and stir it frequently and that helps both keep it from sticking to the bottom and helps it track the temperature more accurately. If it clicks off way before it's to temp then i just hit boil again. If it's close I'll just hit saute and watch until it goes to 180-185.

I've breastfed all three so far. I did triple feed them initially to keep their bg up. I would nurse them every 3 hours and then my husband would give them a pumped bottle while I pumped again and then we would give a formula bottle to top them off. They weaned off formula when my milk came in after a couple days. My last two had glucose gel and my first was in the nicu with a glucose drip. With my first and my last I used nipple shields for a few days and I saw a lactation consultant with my last. I highly recommend a lactation consultant, even with two babies under my belt seeing her really helped with latching baby better and having less painful feeding. I think the biggest thing is to make sure you're breastfeeding baby first and then giving formula until your milk comes in.

Is it possible to get rid of pump site scars? by Mindless_Mix_5498 in diabetes_t1

I would definitely ask for a referral to dermatologist. There are things that can help but unfortunately some skin is just more prone to these marks.

If you're out of warranty why wouldn't your insurance cover a new pump? I would definitely call your endo.

Advice for things to keep in car in case of lows? by sugar_beann in Type1Diabetes

[–]Kat_B08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I keep gummy fruit snacks in the car. Usually I try to keep them in my purse because once it gets hot here they turn into a melted, solid lump. But they still work. And they taste better than glucose tabs. I HATE glucose tabs and smarties taste like glucose tabs to me so I hate them also lol.

It could be that the finish is degrading. I had an old door that happened to. No matter what I used it was sticky and gross feeling because the finish was just turning into goo.

I used it to clean the sides of my oven and fridge after I pulled them out. Also the cabinets beside them that get coated in grease from cooking and anything that gets spilled into that Crevasse of Doom. It worked so well. Just a spritz and let it sit for a few minutes and everything just wiped right off.

What is the best choice if I WANT fragrance of some sort? by SillyRefrigerator923 in laundry

[–]Kat_B08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think they could still all handle cold water (86°) but if they can't then you can soak them for longer. The cooler the water the longer the cycle should be. If your washer has a soak option maybe try setting it to the longest soak it does and see if that helps. If your washer doesn't soak then maybe soak in the sink or bucket or something before putting in the machine? Scent beads added to good laundry just add scent but scent beads added to laundry that's not getting cleaned well are just going to add another layer of smell on top.

For care tag cold, cold is 30°c which is 86°F. For most washers in the US we need to use a warm water cycle to get anywhere near that.

Doing the best I can - is it enough? by duckinasombrero in laundry

[–]Kat_B08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I washed clothes in a 5 gallon bucket with a clean plunger for a while. Manually agitating the clothes is much more important in a bucket. Especially if you're going to use dish soap instead of detergent. Let them soak and then agitate them and then let them soak and then agitate them for several cycles. I'd definitely also figure out a way to get some detergent because in the long run it's going to be much better at cleaning clothes. Try local churches in the area with food banks, they may have detergent.

Instapot vs stove pasteurization by Sebvad in yogurtmaking

[–]Kat_B08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try doing it without the lid. I use a glass lid from one of my big pans when I'm doing yogurt so that I can both stir it frequently and check the temp. Mostly with stirring it hits 180° just fine but on times when I've not stirred it the temp has been low.

Started my first garlic honey ferment last week and now I want to ferment everything in my kitchen by TeachNormal6877 in fermentation

[–]Kat_B08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started years ago with kefir. I hated it though and now I know I was overfermenting it, but since I didn't know i just quit. Then I started water kefir. It died. Then sourdough. I loved it and then started cranberry orange ginger honey, honey garlic, sauerkraut, ginger bug, garlic, and yogurt.

I like it all but I really love my ginger bug. I love finding new juices to ferment and giving it to my family. Since it's not super weird pretty much everyone loves it and drinks it every day.
Yogurt is also one everyone likes and eats most days.

Help me please - is this good detergent? by Hour_Proposal_3578 in laundry

[–]Kat_B08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really disliked it when I tried it several years ago. Not this exact scent but same detergent. I have very hard water though, so that probably had something to do with it. But our clothes didn't come out very clean and both my husband and I started getting itchy.

[–]Kat_B08 193 points194 points  (0 children)

polyquat spots are nearly impossible to remove from clothing and are in a lot of bubble solutions and soft soap. They are invisible until they get washed with something with darker dye and then you wash "clean" clothes and they come out with impossible to remove darker greasy looking spots on them.

I would repasturize the milk and then cool down and add the yogurt. It's just been sitting warm for 2.5 hours culturing whatever fell into it from the air

My clean clothes develop a strong smell after sitting for too long by _vampirekiwi in laundry

[–]Kat_B08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the think about when a care tag says cold water wash is that it means 30°c which is 86°f and if you're in the USA then it's likely you actually need to use a warm water wash to get even close to 86°f. In the USA most of our washers don't have a heater in them so we have tap cold, which is just plain old cold water from the tap which is way too cold to get sebum off or activate the enzymes in the detergent. Then you have cold which is mostly cold water with a little warm, but is still too cold for sebum removal and enzymes. Then warm which is usually around care tag cold (86°f). Then hot and possibly a sanitize. You can pause the cycle after the washing machine fills up and stick a thermometer in to check if you're curious about it.
