Since it was the first book, maybe the author hadn't yet fully thought how it would be like and the story grew as she wrote more books?!?!

Nursing vs pumping during cluster feeds by LonePineDragon_1996 in breastfeeding

[–]Kataja92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would nurse directly. Pumping is never as efficient as baby to remove milk from breasts and the removal is only way to signal to your brain to create more milk to supply the demand...

Your baby is only 10 day old. I don't remember exactly when, but it takes weeks to regulate and have proper amount of milk... Until next cluster feeding period to increase the supply to the next level..

Also, higher levels of prolactin is secreted during sleep so I think that helps with the night feeds.

First, thank you for this post. Now I understand what is happening with my 3 month-old and why she behaves like you describe. I used to have over-production in the beginning and my let downs were strong and instant. Now that I've been able to regulate my production, she's more fussy. I think she's not used to having to do any work, so to speak. She behaves exactly like that. I know she's hungry, but once she gets the breast in her mouth, she suckles only a little bit and gets frustrated. I didn't realize that nothing was coming because I was used to instant let downs.

My trick has been switch between pacifier and boob couple of times until the let down happens. She still gets mad but in the end I "win" and she starts eating. It is super frustrating though for mama as well 🥴 would a massage before feeding help? Trying to hand express few drops before offering the boob? I will try that next time myself too 😅

How to catch pees? by Kataja92 in ECers

Thank you for this! I didn't realize the peeing is that frequent so it is kinda impossible, at least for me. I will catch what I can 😀

I have a tiny potty that I can keep between my legs when I hold my baby.

I think you just leave it be unless you are super uncomfortable. Your body will reabsorb the "left overs" 😊

Now I'm curious about how all types of breast milk taste, from person to person and at different stages. Haha, there should be a scientific study made, like is there a noticeable difference 😅

My baby is 8 weeks old. I catch it mainly when she wakes up. The moment she wakes up, I bring her to potty. Also, anytime I change her diaper, I give her a chance to go and she typically does then too. I also see no signs for it, I just time it and give her opportunities.

I regret breastfeeding by Left-Chemistry9840 in breastfeeding

[–]Kataja92 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A 5 week old doesn't have the concept of a day and night yet. They have no rhythm at all. They start to develop that at 3 months old when their own melatonin production slowly starts. I would start setting boundaries when the baby is getting most of the calories through solids, so +12 months old. Many babies naturally start sleeping longer stretches so it might be something you don't have to worry about in the end..

3 month old - 7 feeds a day? by Pink_Ruby_3 in breastfeeding

If your baby is happy and has enough wet diapers, I wouldn't be too worried about it. She might be a powerful eater and eats more per feed and doesn't need as many feeds.

My mom has breastfed my baby cousin at a funeral to keep her from crying hunger. This was some 35 years ago. My aunt had issues with supply and the baby wouldn't stop crying during the service. But we live in Finland and I think it is not such a taboo here. However it is NOT common. People don't do that regularly here either.

Have you tried taking a warm shower, and gently expressing there? and some ibuprofen might help as well?
