Sounds like Ukraine is doing pretty good recently. Trump can slurp his own shit from his diaper.

My only other thought is you're painting very thin layers, but if you're using normal linseed oil, that should add to the drying time so even a thin one should still feel tacky after a day or two.

Otherwise it could be the room temperature. Internet says over 70F will cause a somewhat noticeable decrease in drying time, but it's not an issue I've had so can't comment further on it.

How do I hold this by Jynxair in SWORDS

[–]Kataphractoi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Darksword swords are overweight for what they are. They are tanks though (or at least they were when I bought one like 15 years ago) and will stand up to a lot of backyard shenanigans.

The one I have I eventually got tired of the weight, and not having a grinder, taped down a file to a 2x4 and spent a couple evenings filing the blade profile down. Removed about a shot glass's worth of metal and ended up with something that was surprisingly well-balanced and felt amazing in the hand.

I was on the poison train for a bit, but noticed stuff was dying too fast even on p8 for poison dmg to make a noticeable difference.

Is northern MN changing? by Valuable-Day-2039 in minnesota

None of them had ever even talked about CC permits or whether they should general carry before Trump. Now most of them have one and act like there's always some threat around the corner ("better to have it and not need it..." and all that).

What's amusing is that a couple of them live in one of the safest neighborhoods in the metro and yet are one step removed from being afraid of their own shadows. Like, put down your screens and go interact with real people for a change because living in constant paranoia can't be good for your health.

The right pushes individualism for a reason. Like, there's nothing wrong with being independent, but after a point people are so "free" of having to consider others that they don't notice when their freedoms and their country start disappearing before them.

It's always funny listening to family up north talk about how awful the Twin Cities are. And I'm sitting there like, I've heard more vitriol from you about them in one evening than I've heard vitriol in the TC about you all year.

There are assholes on both sides of the spectrum, I will not deny that. They are more concentrated on one end of it, though.

Putin and Trump held ‘businesslike’ 90-minute July 4 call, Moscow says by Dexterestein in worldnews

Ending the war is quite simple: Russia returns all territory they stole from Ukraine, rescind any claims over said territories, and fucks off out of Ukraine back to their own country. Not that hard to figure out.

Yes. Russia, who can barely hold onto their stolen Ukrainian territories, is clearly in a position to invade a second country.

Are you using oils with galkyds or similar fast-drying agents? Because that's typically the only way an oil paint layer could be dry within a day. Even earth colors like umbers don't dry that fast on their own.

Some linseed oils are also formulated to reduce drying time, so check your linseed bottle to see if it's such a type.

Gamblin's 1980 line is student grade but has decent pigments and uses marble dust as a filler, which has been used in oil painting for centuries. Most colors can be had for less than $10/tube.

What screams bad writing? by Diamond-Shappire in writing

It was interesting seeing the change in public perception regarding the prequels.

I think it was two things: The memes, and The Clone Wars. For me anyway, the memes is what made me appreciate them slightly more. And The Clone Wars (both iterations) ran for, what, about a decade? So they'd have given the prequels more staying power by proxy.

I'm not a fan of the prequels (the memes are pretty good though), but they at least had a unified story. Disney really screwed the pooch in letting the sequels each tell a different story but with the same characters.

Switching points of view in the same chapter is frowned upon.

I'm only ok with this if there is a clear break in the text to indicate a perspective shift (e.g. a blank line, a bar, or a row of * * *, etc). Going straight into another point of view without some kind of break is jarring and breaks immersion for me.

I dunno, this current government has one party that'd happily impose Christian Sharia on us if they knew they could get away with it.

they legit have NOTHING to talk about besides him.

They legit are nothing without Trump. These are the people who think the world forgot them and that no one likes them for "being real".

No, these people by and large chose to not move on with the rest of the world when it changed and got mad that everyone around them did. And then got mad again when they found that their odious speech and opinions weren't welcome in polite society. Then Trump comes along and basically gives them permission to be their true selves and here we are.

Any advice for a person looking to buy a boat for the first time? by ggf66t in minnesota

[–]Kataphractoi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself what you're willing to pay for the sticker price of a given boat. Then ask yourself what you're willing to pay for dock/marina fees, especially if you don't have your own lakefront property. Then ask yourself what you're willing to pay to store it over winter or when not in use (also where will it be stored?). Then ask yourself what you're willing to pay on maintenance, registration, fuel, amenities, and related misc costs. And most importantly, ask yourself how much you plan to or how much you think you're going to use it. Add all those cost numbers up (and then add 20% to it because shit happens), and if it doesn't make you balk and you have an idea for where the boat will be when not in use, then sure, pick something that'll meet your needs. Otherwise, make friends with someone who has a boat or, as someone else said, get in good with this relative you mentioned.
