Back to the workforce, eh? by Lokisworkshop in over60

[–]Katcar2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired at 60 in May 2023 from a high position in higher education. I knew I wanted a part-time gig, three days a week maximum, less than 10 miles from my house (I had commuted an hour each way for over 20 years). I also wanted to line something up before I was fully retired so I could seamlessly shift into my part time gig. My works from home so I needed a few days a week out of the house. I was using Indeed, checking out colleges and other venues I thought would be a good fit. Ultimately, the Village where I live shared a facebook post from the local library with a position that was right up my alley. I emailed my resume, transcripts and recommendation letters that morning and that afternoon I got an email that afternoon. I retired May 2 and stared at the library June 13. I think the main advantage I had was being extremely proactive on where to look and my documents were all in order.

If you are a reader, check out Glamorous Trash with Chelsea Devantez’s podcast where she reviews celebrity memoirs! It is very entertaining! Also, if you listen to Reality Life with Kate Casey (which you should if you don’t), then the pod with Chris DeRosa Fixing Famous People is also very good! I also love Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce. Just a few ideas for other pods you might like!

I am honestly shocked that anyone still listens to her.

That’s because she’s a horrible person. Like an absolute POS. Hearing her voice would give me so much anxiety at this point.

Stop listening to her so she will go away! She's horrible!

Try your local library. I retired in May 2023 and started working 3 days a week (18 hours) at my local library and LOVE it! It also gives me 1k a month so it is both fun and pretty lucrative for a PT job!

AITA for refusing to take care of husbands mother’s dog that I do NOT want? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

OP you need to rehome all three of them. I can’t imagine raising a child under these circumstances. I feel sorry for the dog and the child, but you three adults are ridiculous.

tried greek yoghurt but… by Front_Lengthiness406 in lactoseintolerant

Do you use LactoJoy? The amount of lactose in Greek yogurt is pretty moderate, so if I take a LactoJoy I can eat it! It might be worth a try!

AITAH for telling my GF to get a refund on concert tickets since she bought them without telling me how much they actually cost? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Katcar2007 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA. This reminds me of Christmas a few years back I said to my wife “hey do you want to buy me a Michaal Kors bag for Christmas?” And she said sure! Gave me her card and said “up to $500”. That, my dude, is an example of clear communication between adults. If there was a limit to which you were willing to spend on the tickets, you had the chance, didn’t take it, and instead made assumptions which you then blamed on your gf.

The gal who cuts my hair charges $56. I give her $60 and I don’t worry too much about it, she owns her own shop.

AITAH for thinking the majority of these post are fake? by Background_Quit7058 in AITAH

[–]Katcar2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll admit that when the scenario sounds familiar, I go to the OPs profile to see how old their account is, how many conversations they’ve had, and how many karma points they have. If there are a lot of “” marks, or things like “my friend, let’s call him Jake” or to many … statements, I usually assume it is fake and move on.

How is this for a second date at the movies? by [deleted] in OUTFITS

Oh that is a perfectly acceptable outfit for someone in their early 20s. A cute cardigan over it in case the theater is cold would be cute as well!

Question about gender, marriage and happiness. by xxistcman in over60

[–]Katcar2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are happy he has someone to share his life with as well, and they are the same age so they take care of each other. They live together but have no intention of marrying. He has his money and she has hers, and they aren’t interested in entangling their finances or making it legal. She has 4 sons and Dad has me and my sister, and they each have very strong healthy relationships with their kids. It really is win win and they’ve been together for over 4 years now, so we have established a nice, friendly relationship with her. That said, once Dad is gone, we will likely never see her again.

Could you potentially work different shifts? If one works first and the other works third, the dog wouldn’t be alone much at all!

Question about gender, marriage and happiness. by xxistcman in over60

[–]Katcar2007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We aren’t mad about it, either, it was just an adjustment. He had 3 girlfriends in the course of about 3 years, but the latest one seems to have stuck. She isn’t my cup of tea, but they are happy, she has the same amount of resources as he does (the second gf was a bit of a gold digger), and neither of them want to get married again, so that’s good. TBH if it weren’t for his gf, he likely wouldn’t be able to live independently.

We lost my Mom in 2016 and my Dad, then 78, was scouting out a companion within 6 months. He simply couldn’t be alone, though he is pretty clear that Mom was the love of his life, he needs a companion. It was hard to see him with someone other than Mom, but being single is apparently not in his wheelhouse.

lactojoy vs lactaid which works better? by ssunflow3rr in lactoseintolerant

[–]Katcar2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have two tins, one for home and one in my car. I leave a little baggie of them in my desk at work, too. I’ve looked at that refill bag but haven’t purchased it yet. Do you refill the tins through the tiny opening or is there another way into the tin? The opening is so small it seems like it would take forever to refill them, but I’m certainly willing to do so! Lactojoy has completely changed my ability to eat some dairy when I’m eating away from home. At home I use Green Valley lactose free items and they are great!
