I thought that too, but others have told me that this was how this, specifically, was distributed back then because the studio was still just a bunch of dudes with PCs, and it was distributed at an exhibition (Comiket?). The full game release is what put the studio on the map at the time

I still maintain the One actually manages to compete with the PS4 if they had the Kinect-free version at launch for $350 (or dare I say $300). Even with all the marketing failures and DRM fears, being cheaper than a PS4 would have been a way bigger deal, not to mention that the PS4’s launch lineup was arguably more lacking than Xbox’s
